  1. I am trying to get some newbies interested in caching and had thought I would send them to one of my series which I thought they would enjoy. Come to find out that on a 4 series adventure 2 of the caches were unavailable as supposedly being premium caches. When I went back in to check why, as I never request my caches to be premium only, I could see the box for making the cache premium and it was unchecked which should mean anyone should have it viewed on their map page. Why is that happening when it is not what I want and how can I change it and check to make sure my caches are not listed as premium???? I am a premium member so everything shows up for me, but I didn't realize that was happening until now. Anyone know why or how to fix this? I can't see my caches except if I edit them and the ones I checked do not have the premium only box checked but are coming up on my friends maps that way. Thanks
  2. I have a Garmin 62s and love it but can't figure out how to delete my found caches on it. I've had friends tell me I have to download them to a list (which I can't figure out where or how) and others have mentioned using GSAK. I don't know if that's something I would use in combination with the geocaching website or what. Not the most computer literate person, so don't really know what I should do but want to get these found ones off my gps so I don't bog my gps down with too much info it no longer needs in it. Any understandable advice would be appreciated.
  3. I had same issue although not yet to Windows 10 I still have 8 so I went back to Internet explorer and it works just fine for me.
  4. I just started using mine the last couple days but have got this answer- you need to push the push pin button and then enter then scroll up to the coords area hit enter to highlight it and use the center button to go left right and the up down to change the numbers. when done hit enter and scroll up name it and change the symbol to what ever it is you are marking if you mark it as a geocache box it will automatically get put in the geocache list or if you leave it as like a colored push pin it will get listed under waypoints. hope this makes sense. i'm just learning the ins and outs of mine but like it.
  5. I would take it to their house and tape it to their forehead if I knew where they lived or even coords to get there as I can figure out a GPS at least!!!
  6. If i have pics on my email how can I send them on to a cacher that wants proof that I was at his cache I had my son email me the pics but don't know how to forward them to cacher
  7. Letterboxing can be pretty cool, and I always with the cost of gas now , look up to see if there are any in an area that I may be caaching in. The state of Connecticut has a cool program for visiting all the state forests, which after 5 finds and stamp ins will send you a patch, and after alll 30 will send you a walking stick. The stick isn't anything special but with a little work can be. I woodburned a picture of each of the stamps that they used in their boxes, plus the state outline with my name in it and a little picture of me. So not only did I find all of these I went to parts of the state that I probably wouldn't have hurried too. Think I'm going to order the geocaching staff emblem to put on it to altho I could just woodburn that on too! Its all a good thing as it all gets us outside and hiking around.
  8. I'll look for a micro but not as fast as I'll search for a traditional cache. I myself try to employ both in my hunts, usually a couple of micros with coords to get you to the next one that take you to the next one that take you to the cache idea. That way you get a challenge plus a bang for your buck. I like getting out there knowing I may be in an area for a while. What I don't like is when they are hidden so well I have to give up (which doesn't happen often) but its frustrating to know I've come so far to leave empty handed.
  9. Years ago I got my father in law a hunting dog that the peoples kids had named Sweetheart, I told him he should keep the name so when he was out hunting he could keep hollerin "Here Sweetheart, Here Sweetheart"! Needless to say he called her Buffy, but my mother in law and I would call her both cause she really was a sweetheart! I like alot of the names that were suggested, let us know what you choose.
  10. is there anyplace on the internet that I could plug in a certain area of a state and have it give me a map which doesn't even have to be too specific, but would show me lat & long lines. This is for like when I'm going out of state and I don't want to buy a gazateer and want a clue where in relation to where I may be going a cache may be. Also is there any specific place to try and find zip codes for other states or towns in some of the larger states besides the post office? Thanks
  11. I have a magellan Sport Track Pro and I have the software for maps. Do you actually have to load in the sections that you are going to or will the GPS give you coordinates anyway? I also don't know whether I have room in it to load more info as I think we originally loaded like all Ct, Mass, and RI and a good portion of western NY. I'm supposed to go to NH this weekend just the southern part and hopefully will find time to geocache but will it work if I don't special load the map stuff. I figure its closer than when I go all the way to upstate NY (3hrs compared to 6) but we did put that section in and I've never had to re initialize it when I went there will I have to with this NH trip? The manual is going with me but it's almost as bad as making sense of an insurance policy. Can anyone explain it more simply?
  12. I got mine through Costco altho I don't have a membership card I found someone who was nice enough to let me use their number. The deal is online only - we found this out after sending her to the store to get it for me. So ask around and maybe you can find someone who knows someone that belongs. It was worth it for me as I also had someone that owned the mapping software so I didn't need to buy that. If you have to buy both you might do better elsewhere where you can get both and probably get the rebate that is offered. Price check around and go online to costco and see if they offer the deal with the software so you can get a rebate they still may have the best deal.
