  1. Geooh GO includes a car app that runs on Android Auto on the car's display. It can show the nearest caches in an offline list on a map with a list on the side. See details of the cache then navigate to it without ever looking at your phone.
  2. It's part of the enhanced version of Geooh, not a separate app. It's a feature listed in v13 bullets on Google Play. The website geooh-go.com has more detail and a video of the car app in action.
  3. Geooh GO has an Android Auto car app to show nearby geocaches. Runs on the car's display.
  4. Android developers can configure their apps to check for the latest release when starting up. That helps insure the user has the most current version without having to wait for the Play Store to do the update. Geooh GO has this feature. It is a design decision, but requires using Google technology in Android or 3rd party tech. The official app was built with cross platform software which may not have this capability.
  5. Cachly and Geooh GO both do waypoint projections without using a website or extra apps.
  6. Android does not allow apps access to other apps' storage area. It's a Google restriction, not a Geooh one. And the broken WhereYouGo can only see cartridges in its internal storage, not elsewhere. So you are in a catch-22 situation. Move the cartridges outside of WhereYouGo if you want to use Geooh... otherwise stay with WhereYouGo.
  7. Google and Apple are very restrictive on what can show on the car's display. Reducing driver distraction is paramount. For instance, Google only allows up to 6 points of interest (POI) to show on a map... so there is NO way to show the above map. Geooh GO for Android is the only geocaching app that has an approved car app running on the car display.
  8. Geooh GO plays a Ta Da sound clip on finds and a Buzz sound on DNFs. And shows a starburst across the screen. Fun sounds and animations.
  9. Interesting... Android apps are not allowed to share data between them so issues with the Google Maps app cached map tiles should not affect other apps. Developers have asked Google to allow sharing of the cached maps though so that any downloaded maps in the Maps app would be available to other apps in offline mode. The idea would be to use the Maps app to download offline maps so that any app using Google maps would effectively have them offline. Maybe they listened and are doing just that.
  10. It's likely that when the map tile was downloading the network connection failed and the partial tile image was stored... so the map isn't trying to download again. If you can go to some other location far away and it loads fine, then it shows the app is working. The underlying Google map software is at fault. Try clearing the Android storage and cache data in Android settings for the app. Or reinstall.
  11. Each app appears to render images in description differently. It's due to how the developer configures the app with the underlying technology. Geooh GO was worked on considerably to have visual fidelity with the website.
  12. Google has given initial approval to allow Geooh GO to reinstate its Android Auto support in version 13 of the app... coming out soon.
  13. Geooh GO can show elevation for a cache... and any position on the map by long-press on a location.
  14. The API apps are not competition! They are partners in providing features that go beyond the official app (which is designed for beginners). HQ supports and encourages these partners. That's why they have a section on the website dedicated to API apps and even why they created the API to begin with.
  15. Or in Geooh GO... Click "Download Cartridge" Done!
  16. Geooh GO can easily show your log for a cache... in the app.
  17. Did you try the Wherigo player in Geooh GO?
  18. Have you tried Geooh GO? It easily downloads and runs Wherigo cartridges.
  19. The API apps allow Full or Lite downloads, the Groundspeak app uses Lite only. Selecting a cache in the official app causes a Full download of that cache data... nothing is discarded. Lite is faster which is why some complain about API apps being slow in Full mode when compared to the official app.
  20. Some API apps can show caches and adventures together on the map with each lab stage also visible.
  21. This is an Android 12 issue. Go into Android settings, Apps, select Adventure Lab app, tap Open by default, tap Add link... then check all the links you want Android to send to the AL app. This is how users control which apps respond to specific links.
  22. Android users have had widgets for years... you need to find screen real estate to display whatever size the widget is. That's normal.
  23. Geooh GO and GCDroid if you want Android apps dedicated to geocaching. Cachly on iOS.
