  1. I haven't been at this all that long, but I can pretty much guess that if JackMerlin is this upset about 2 muggled caches, he's up for alot of disappointment. From what I gathered, muggling is a risk taken when hiding a cache, and it's up to the hider to do a better job of hiding, and the cacher of being a bit more discrete when muggles are nearby.
  2. I actually enjoy Micros (if they're creative & well thought out). One of my favorites was a chapstic tube with a piece of wood glued to the bottom of it. It was placed in a hole in a telephone pole just above eye level. To me, a will thought out Micro is a rewarding find.
  3. Maybe it's just the one I got, but it seems like it takes 3-7 minutes for it to aquire signal...and then sometimes several more minutes for it to register a reasonable accuracy. If I go inside, it loses signal. If I put it in my pocket, it loses signal. If I turn it on while in the car, it takes even longer to get a signal, and occaisionally loses signal in the car. Maybe I'm too impatient, but I feel that it's unnacceptably slow. Now, when it's functioning properly, it's fine, and the coordinates for the couple caches I've found with it have been spot on. A nice simple unit. However, I've wanted a topo gps for quite some time, so I just bit the bullit & bought it.
  4. Well, I ended up ordering the Venture Cx today. It completely blew my budget, and the wife's gonna be pissed, but I also ordered the topo 2008 software and a 1gig micro SD card with it. Ended up spending just under $300 with next day shipping ('cause I'm impatient). I chose the Garmin due to their reputation for backing their product, and because I've read so many horror stories about Magellan. I'd tried out a etrex from walmart for about a day, but I really wasn't happy with it at all, and I already took it back. Thanks for the suggestions. Carey
  5. I'm fairly new to caching. So far I've found 4 or 5 caches, but I quickly found that although my current gps is great for navigation, it is horrible for caching / hiking. Therefore, I'm looking for a good unit to be primarily used for caching. I would like something that I could eventually load a topo map software on. I will not be using this unit for navigation, however, as I'm very happy with my Mio for that. That said, I'd like to stay under $150, but I could be pursuaded into spending as much as $200. I've looked a bit at the Magellan Explorist 400 & 500, and the Garmin Venture Cx, and since I'm so new to this, alot of the features escape me. Any help would be appreciated. I just hate to spend this kind of money, just to find out a month from now that the other unit was the better choice. Thanks, Carey
