  1. I been a paid subscriber for many many years and each week, they send me 3 pocket queries. I got them checked for Thursday, and mostly around 3am, within about 1 minute of each other I get all 3. This been going on for many years and works great. Today, however, I got only 2 out of 3. I went on there page, and all 3 are checked, but it indicates only 2 was sent. So, is there a new policy going on at geocaching.com? I heard they was having some trouble with there site or something, telling paid members they was free members not long ago. I know one thing, if there is a change in policy or they no longer will send my 3 pocket queries each week(around the same time), My policy on letting them bill me 3 dollars each and every month will also change.
  2. I also use the 76CSX. Been useing it for over 2 years, and still works great. On the jetski, works perfect, geocaching in the field, works perfect. Very durable and rugged GPS. I also have the road maps and topo maps, that I use with it. I highly recommend getting TOPO 2008. I would suggest if you travel much to get a road GPS so you can hear the instructions and see where to turn on a bigger screen. (instead of a faint little beep) Also updating the maps to the next version is a pain with the 76CSX. I also use the Eneloop batteries with it, and they work great as everyone says they do. If you don't use the back light much, you can get tons of hours out of 2 charged Eneloops. --mo_town_man
  3. Sounds like a neat idea, but do have my doubts how long that 150 dollar video camera will last. If you decide to go ahead with it, be sure to post the link, so we can follow it, to see how it goes. Would be most interesting. --danny -mo_town_man
  4. I'm not sure how they do it, but geocachers in my area get phone notifications. Before they learned how to do that, I use to get a FTF now and again in my area as I get notifications and I'm on the net all the time. But now days, it never happens as they rush to the cache site from whereever they may be as soon as the phone rings and tells them. We have very very active geocachers in this area. I think some would push there own mom down to get the FTF. They even ignore the "recommended at night" and such to get it. But I still have a lot of fun getting ones found by other geocachers. I try to forget about the FTF and just enjoy cacheing!! --mo_town_man
  5. I also missed 2 PQ this week that I receive each day. Seems to happen every now and again. My problem ended up being my credit card expired, and I needed to update paypal to the new expiration date. So now got to wait a couple days till they try to re-charge my account. (I go monthly). Sucks being a free member. Not sure how so many do it. --mo_town_man

  7. Thanks man. I did all kinds of looking and searching the forum with the search feature. Not sure what i was doing wrong. Hope forum can forgive me. I truely did search before i posted new topic. --danny
  8. Hey everyone, I use NT north america 2008 mapsourse and now see the 2009 update CD is out (least on the websites). However, i'm surprised to find no discussions about it. Does anyone have any reviews on it? Thanks --danny -mo_town_man
  9. My 76CSX which is nearly a year old, locks very fast. I would say a minute or less if outside.. Even inside mostly locks within 10 mintues. Far as i know, both GPS's are about the same in all ways cept looks. --danny -mo_town_man
  10. Insurance should pay for things stolen inside the house. I would look at this as a great time to update to a Garmin 76CSX or maybe another more advance model of your choice. Also, you will need a new copy of the Road maps as they are locked and only one key anymore. But that too, you would think would be covered. (don't forget to include that on your claim) So cheer up, update, and be glad you and your family are ok.
  11. "I've been caching for 5 years and have almost 4000 hides and now someone caching for less than a year with 155 finds implies that there is a rule I don't know about and maybe if I found more caches I would know this " You are 100% right. Compared to you, I'm also a super noobie and by my logic should also not hide the one i did. (which to be honest, i don't think most people care for. lol) I admit that I was wrong in my thinking. I now realize there is no rules on that, and geocaching is a listing service only. I think I was just spoiled by the fact, the ones i went after, the owners didn't report coords till after it was published. With the message system and my own limited experience, I made up rules that don't exist. I will also admit, I seen some good caches by geocachers who are just starting out. I was peed, but now see I was wrong, and that I need to "chill out". Thanks everyone for letting me see the error of my ways/thinking. --danny -mo_town_man
  12. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...53-53e2c169324e This happened in my area. A very new geocacher leaked the coords to a friend before it was even published. A sin!! I really do believe there should be a rule/policy that one must find at least 50 caches before being able to hide one. Would help keep this sort of thing from happening. Is there any geo-police one can contact to sort of warn people not to do this sort of thing? Or is what they did ok? Does anyone else feel 50 would be a good number before being able to publish a cache? Anyway, I realize its all about having fun, so maybe its just me, and i'll way too serious about everything and what happened. --danny -mo_town_man
  13. Depends on your unit. My beeps, but if you have a unit that can talk, City Navagator can talk.
  14. I would like to have it beep when i get to my location. (when doing a route useing the road maps). If geocaching off-road mode, it beeps and lets me know i'm close to the geocache. But when I'm following a route on-road, it says on the screen arriving at so and so, with no beeping. Another improvement is how it keeps zooming the road map way out after it gives me a turn direction. Why does it insist on doing this... pees me off each time. --danny
  15. Same here!! Seems the only 2 i didn't get was on Sunday. First time they didn't come since i been getting 2 each day. So thats acceptable to me, and i'll keep paying my 3 dollars a month. Things do happen, and i do understand that. --danny
  16. I get 2 small PQ's sent to me each day. Up till this weekend, i got my 2 each and every day. But I didn't get Sunday's and haven't got todays yet (Monday @ 3:00pm EST). So if this happened to you, you are not alone. I sure hope I continue to get the same great service I have grown use too at geocaching.com and don't have to re-order them each day just to get my 2. (which i haven't done) This problem will only make more people re-submit them so they can get ahead of the line, and make matters worse... I don't mind missing a day in a very odd time (like maybe once every other month). But if it gets routine, might have to withdraw my big 3 dollars a month. Nothing speaks louder then $$$ --danny
  17. Use a program such as GSAK. I get 2 pocket queries each day. (what i found and local ones i haven't) As time goes on, your logs will grow and grow. Granted at first you may not have too many logs per catch, but in time, you will have more past logs then you can shake a stick at. Then when you print them out or download to a PDA, all them logs will go with you. Or if you got lots of money, can take a laptop with you.
  18. It won't, AFAIK. That's why you do it with Recalculate | Off-Road. It might actually point to the cache if you already have lock-on-road turned off, but I cannot test it at the moment. This is correct. To get the mode u want, you have to recalculate and do so off-road mode. Bascially, this is what i do. 1. I make sure my road maps are selected. Then do a Find geocache or Find Trailhead/parking (under custom POI's) (Course you have to load all this good stuff in there before you could do this option. This will give you turn by turn to the trailhead or area close as possible to the geocache. 2. Then i reselect the geocache on the find menu and tell it to find off-road this time. Now, i could also do a recalulate also, if i have it set in the settings to ask me each time if i want off-road or follow-road. 3. If its a trail or woods, I can then select my topo maps, so i get a better picture of the area. But if its just a guard rail catche, i don't even bother, as then i just have to switch it back to road maps, to auto route to the next geocache or location (on the road). Might seem like a lot of work to go from one mode to the next, but after you do it a bunch of times, gets pretty easy to do. And if you try to tell it to auto route and you got topo maps selected instead, you just got to switch to the road maps and do a re-calculate. Granted there may be easier ways to do all this then how I do it, so if someone knows of something better/cooler, feel free to chip in. --danny
  19. You can't auto-route with the topo maps. The basemap is pretty much useless as it has only the very very major roads. You need city navigator if you plan to use your 76CSX for turn by turn. Sorry as its going to set you back another 100 to 120 dollars. --danny
  20. You can't auto-route with the topo maps. The basemap is pretty much useless as it has only the very very major roads. You need city navigator if you plan to use your 76CSX for turn by turn. Sorry as its going to set you back another 100 to 120 dollars. --danny
  21. Well, why don't you just sign up for a month and then stop the re-billing. If you don't like the added benefits, you are only out 3 dollars. Not even a gallon of gas anymore. --danny
  22. Possible corrections: * I believe both the 60*x and 76*x will autoroute on the basemap right out of the box * metroguide 4.x autoroutes out of the box * metroguide 5.x and greater will autoroute if you massage it. Well, granted the 76CSX can autoroute with the basemap, BUT its 100% worthless. Unless the only place u plan on driving is major highway. Which is slim to none. Basemap is a joke. --danny -mo_town_man
  23. "The security guard did come outside and appologise for the mistake. He said that from where he was standing and watching, the antenna on the 60csx looked like a gun barrel. All of the police involved were very professional in the way they handled me and the situation. I thanked them for not shooting me and for the job that they do every day. After explaining geocaching they all seemed very interested in the sport and wished me good luck in finding what I was looking for. I have no hard feelings against any of these people for anything that happened that day." This info is right on the link i sent. You have to scroll down a bit. Directly from the owner himself.. superfly. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...p;hl=gun+barral Maybe rather then flameing someone, you should read and learn something first. --danny
  24. No. Its not a load of crap. I said it based on a experience a user had and others even had on the same cache. I believe security would have still called police on the guy, but may not did a "man with gun" call, and been treated so bad in front of his kid, if they didn't see the gun barrel. (or what they thought was such) Here is the links... http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...p;hl=gun+barral http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...76-daa0f4c54b07 Granted, i wouldn't make this my main decision on buying the 60 vs 76, but may be one consideration so i threw it out there. Flame me if u wish, but i don't regreat posting that response. After all, geocachers are pokeing around strange places looking for something and others see us doing this strange activity often at a distance. --danny mo_town_man
  25. I also have the 76CSX. Very nice GPS. Another factor you may not have thought about is the 76CSX has no antenna that can mistaken as a gun barrel. I know one 60CSX user in the forum had cops pointing guns at him and had female police officers frisking him. They seen him looking around and thought he was armed and did a man with gun call to police. (Def gave the 60CSX user a differnet adventure then the one he thought he would get. lol) But as the rest of the people said, you might want to check out one of the newer cheaper units. --danny mo_town_man
