  1. Thanks, knowing this makes workaround doable. Either direct download from the page, which will come with the last 20 logs, or GSAK 'refresh data' will grab more logs.
  2. Confirmed. guid of PQ 2e358e2e-8fc4-4e5c-a437-73fa9d707e55 caches within 1 mile of GC48QED returns 1 log the most recent found it on that cache, from 2014, and no logs at from a couple of others, with more recent finds. Most recent 5 logs of any date would be nice to get back.
  3. Attribute handling seems to have changed. I saw a thread in the Website forum on this https://forums.geocaching.com/GC/index.php?/topic/382583-pocket-query-attribute-handling-changed/ So I tried it myself, PQ for traditional caches 10 miles home coords with attributes 2 attributes: Thorns Snakes. Instead of returning caches with BOTH, PQ now returns caches with either. I'm 99.99% certain that this is new. Search is returning caches with both - 13 caches PQ is returning caches with either - 32 caches
  4. I've confirmed this result, and reported it in the appropriate thread, linked by Hügh above.
  5. Two reasons: 1) if you don't already qualify, you never can 2) only benchmark challenges that are purely, Log some number of benchmarks, could be monitored by the CO - you log the challenge, CO looks at the only remaining benchmark stat on the site -> count. My Benchmark challenge called for 13 different types. Some require X number of types, or elevation, or within state, or in X number of states, there are other requirements. None verifiable.
  6. They had already grabbed it. They dropped it, expecting to be able to log the drop out of their inventory. You removed it from their inventory. They had no notice of that. By the time they'd found a cache, and dropped it, the tracking number was in the cache with the bug. They were home (or somewhere, not the cache).
  7. Finding your own. Very cool. O Once you Marked it Missing, it wasn't in their inventory to drop. I doubt they knew this until after the action, ie, they went to log the find and the drop. By that time, the only way they could have logged it properly was to have written down the code. Which I assume they hadn't.
  8. https://www.geocaching.com/p/?guid=62fc8d0c-4df2-4f45-ad6a-7579e6dcf058 RedHiker profile. I'd use an email, reference the GC Code of the cache. Could link to this thread, or not
  9. Not a new irk. Indeed I may have posted it here previously.... however .. if you OPEN an ammo can, kindly work out how to close it. Please. Checked one today, found with lid pushed down, but not latched. Full of mud, rust, ants. Dang. <grumpy mode> I'm long on cans, so replaced it, but I am coming to the end of being willing to do this </ mode>
  10. https://www.geocaching.com/about/icons.aspx at the bottom of this page you'll see 4 "Specials" Lost and Found Tour was used in 2010 only, for events where a touring Lackey was present. At the time, those were 10Year! Events, they've since been changed to the current Community Celebration Event. Not many of them available then, and none now Partnership was applied to some commercial and some non-commercial caches where HQ was working with another entity. The first such commercial partnership was with Timberland shoes, Europe only. There were a couple of non-commercial partnerships, one with U.S. Public Broadcasting, the Dino Train caches. When the current GeoTour program first started, some of those tours had it, but a new attribute was developed instead, the current GeoTour attribute. Both attributes (like cacti) seem to be retired. There a 9 Partnership attribute caches still available at this time. https://www.geocaching.com/plan/lists/BM47HPA?sort=name&sortOrder=asc&skip=0&take=500
  11. this site calculates the distance between 2 sets of coords far more accurately than, "your regular GPS". A recreational gps has around 30ft of error on both ends of the calculation, ie, where it IS and where the GoTo is. This site uses coordinate geometry, round earth, modified to what's usually called "pear shaped", ie the earth bulges just a tad in the middle. There are sites that will take two sets of coords and give you distance results. Sometimes your gps may tell you that there's less than 528ft, when in fact, the distance is that or greater, or that there is 528ft, when in fact there isn't. https://boulter.com/gps/distance/
  12. Some locations are just tough places to own caches. I think the worst are small playground/picnic parks in suburbs. Second worst is what you've hidden, popular hiking trails near large urban areas. Urban micros are so variable that it's hard to generalize. I've seen some local to me coming up on their 17th year, original. Seems like one of yours is on the scenic view. See Jeff's post above, " if there's a scenic view or something at GZ that's likely to draw muggles, place the cache a bit away from it. " <----- Odds "another cacher" is stealing or damaging your hides are low. It's not zero, but really, it's people, children and teens much of the time, walking with adults, bored as they fiddle around on the scenic point, or out investigating the same modest off trail spurs that drew your attention in the first place. I always assume a cache will need to be replaced and always have at least 2 of "whatever" as I hide. I own a cache I've replaced 8 times, another ammo can cache has been replaced 6 times. Typically I'll go 3 replacements, and then consider archive. The 6x replaced ammo can, I'll archive next time I get up there. It's burnt (again).
  13. The geocache type symbols look like this: https://www.geocaching.com/about/cache_types.aspx greyed means the listing is "disabled", a yellow smile face means you've found it a blue frown face means you've logged a Did Not Find on that cache
  14. From cache owner dashboard https://www.geocaching.com/play/owner there's a link for published caches https://www.geocaching.com/play/owner/published the map icon used to map these, now it goes to search, with no parameters loaded - image below https://www.geocaching.com/play/search To see all owned caches active on Search requires two searches, 1 for owned disabled, and 1 for owned enabled. Whereas the cache owner published link has both.
  15. They don't show any of places where any staged caches actually are. Hiding is tough, you need to maintain a database of staged caches you've found. Track whether the staged have been archived. And you can't know if parts of active have shifted. That said, I support the option of leaving caches on the "solved coords" as an option for users. It's been requested over and over and over. Hiders would all prefer it.
  16. Inside a building might need to be staged anyway. Creating the opportunity to have Multi with a Virtual first stage, placed such that it has some clearance from other geocaching map icons. 5.7 Indoor geocaches
  17. on the edit page, remove from above the image link this: <div class="span-8 WrapFix"> and you'll just have the image in the "user supplied text" area, instead of wandering over base page elements
  18. That unit stats unit was brought over from some pre-existing stats site. I don't think that it's been altered in any way since (2009?) Rather than fiddle with it, I'd expect, eventually, maybe, a whole new unit.
  19. In general, I agree with the premise the elevation is disregarded. However, this is a rather cool idea. It's the sort of thing that might fly. It would require explicit permission from the tower management, cache in open sky. And it would require cost to be considered okay. With all that, the cache owner might still end up working with both reviewer and HQ to make this fly. I suspect the combo of explicit permission and cost is probably The End. I see the price of adult admission as NZ dollar 25, which is US Dollar 14, and Euro 14.4 This is a tad high, typically adult entry fees are capped at ~USD 10.
  20. The cache report will reject this, but allow you to continue. It's something I'd ask the local NZ reviewer about before going forward. In your example of the Auckland Sky Tower, the answer may well be no, because the entry fee for the Sky Tower is above cost limits permitted by Geocaching.com even for non-profit or government run areas. It's a near enough thing that it might be worth asking. EXPLICIT permission for the cache from the city Sky Tower manager, and the cache in open sky, so there's gps use, and maybe... I wouldn't count on that though. South of me there are a few caches in non-profit tower garden, including some placed by management. Because fees have risen steadily and dramatically no new caches are being published. Those remaining are grandfathered.
  21. There's a long running thread, Number of new caches decreasing? I'll link to my post of roughly a year ago. https://forums.geocaching.com/GC/index.php?/topic/346539-number-of-new-caches-decreasing/&do=findComment&comment=5926444 in some areas, like mine, state of Florida, cache numbers peaked in 2018, declined for a while, and now for a couple of years are stable. Worldwide, there's still growth, but it's very very modest. Currently there are 3,362,350 active caches worldwide. World hit 3,000.000 April 2017.
  22. It's now quite rare (like maybe never) for existing caches to be incorporated into a GeoTour, precisely because all caches part of the GT will be archived when the tour ends (ie, the tour owner stops paying to renew). This allows the GeoTour attribute to remain on the cache. Seekers don't like losing the attribute, and people looking to "find all" for the GT souvenir need to not lose one. in the past, older caches were incorporated. The tour in Brazil had the A.P.E. cache, and an Ohio tour had the state's oldest. I doubt that would be done now.
  23. On the site, using Search, https://www.geocaching.com/play/search filter for cache type. It's one of the few filters that Basic Members can use. Scroll down on the filters page to see it, just check Letterbox, and that's all it will return You should have a home location that's central to where you want to be hunting entered into your profile. If you have none, it will return all in the world. I see you own a cache, in that case, likely you do have home coords, and Search will use those. I think you may be able to alter that center on Search, but I'm less sure. Letterbox hybrids on Geocaching.com can have the underlying type of Traditional, ie cache at coords with stamp (commonest), Multi (ie, go somewhere, get info that goes to cache with stamp), or Mystery (solve, figure out something that leads to cache with stamp).
  24. Last sentence in the body of a Friend Request links to Preferences, it should now link to User Privacy
  25. AT/LT = Appalachia Trail / Long Trail Quote, "I am told I need permission while teh cache is on the side of the road away from this trail buffer zone and most likely on killington town or state land ?" Curious, you've seen a map of buffer zone? ie, if the cache location is outside of the buffer, then you probably wouldn't be told it's inside. I wonder if the reviewer might just tell you how much to move it to be clear of the buffer? or alternately you find out whose land it is, "killington town or state land," and get permission from them? Quote, "Ive called the agent I was told to reach out to , to never receive any answer" This is sad. Used to happen a lot when I tried to get permits from one of Florida's state agencies. (Their process, while still slow, has improved in the last few years) (a lot of people give up over them wanting your Social Security number, I darn near did.) Quote, "Im not sure who makes these rules..." In the reviewer note you quote, "The buffer zone is established and maintained by Groundspeak in cooperation with the Appalachian Trail and the U.S. National Park Service." See my reference to difficult permit/permission processes in Florida. I own caches in places where some have found it too hard or taking to too long. That doesn't mean that, "there's favoritism". It means that I got the needed permits. Not fast, not easy, but yeah. I'm see niraD responded while I was typing. Lot of info in those old threads. Odd that staff would send you here, maybe in the New England forum someone *might* have more current contact info on buffer permission?
