  1. I've been using the MaHa Powerex 2700 along with a la Crosse BC-900 charger. The powerex last a bit longer than the Duracells or Energizers you buy at the local super store.
  2. Pretty much, as long as it's within the guidelines ( No Food, Dangerous Things, Etc... ) Leave something with a value of equal or grater than what you take. Alot of people, like myself, just enjoy the hunt, and take and leave nothing, just sign the log, store a new memory, and move to the next. I do, however, like to swap trackables such as geocoins and travel bugs.
  3. Yes, I realized that you have to run it, before reinstalling winterboard. Not sure exactly what is going on here, and haven't looked at any crash files. BTW: The disclaimer was to have a slightly comedic effect. Aha, I am also having crash problems with the upgrade ... and I also have a jailbroken phone, with Winterboard. Thanks, I'll try this out. What, you expect that someone is going to sue you if they follow your suggest and things go awry? Update : That worked for me as well. I had to go through the process twice, though, as it seemed to only work once I actually ran the geocaching app after re-install, then shut it down and re-installed WinterBoard. Thanks.
  4. Ok... This method worked on two iPhones... First uninstall GC Now uninstall Winterboard. ( remember what you had for winterboard, as the uninstall will remove anything that depends on it ) Reboot iphone Reinstall GC ( get from app store, they won't charge you again, you'll get a pop up that says you already bought it ) Load up GC then close it. Reinstall Winterboard, and everything that went away when you uninstalled winterboard. Now it will work. Of course, I assume no responsibility for anything bad that may happen.
  5. It's an Apple type fan site, and they reviewed iPhone apps that have the best icons, and Geocaching was mentioned. Maybe that will get some new folks interested. Macenstein
  6. Yup... That's what you want. POI Loader. Someone also mentioned gpspassion... That's where I got the info when I first had a Mio.
  7. Good news... yes... There is a way. There is a program called POI Creator or something. I used to have one of these, was my first caching GPS. Sorry I don't remember exacts, but a little googling should get you on the right track. I just know it is possible, but don't have that GPS anymore. You did have to mod it with some files on a mem card to get to the OS, and drop a POI file. Once I get home from work, I'll check my laptop, and see if I still have the programs so I can tell you what they are. there are also ways to show your position as a little blue dot for better accuracy.
  8. I think most new folks think of DNFs as a "Bad Mark" I log every DNF. If I looked for a cache, and did not find it as intended, it's a DNF. As a cache owner, I appreciate DNFs. If I notice a DNF on a cache I know wasn't too difficult, I go and check on it, or if I see many DNFs, I know there is a problem. When I log DNF, I make sure I'm clear as to why, for example, a bunch of muggles comes around, i not that, so the owner doesn't get up and run out to check it, since I just walked away. But if I've been seaching for that 1.5/1.5 for 30 minutes, I log that I've looked all over, etc. Hopefully if a pattern starts, they would see there is an issue and take care of it. DNFs are not bad. They don't take smileys away, and can be very helpful to the owners, or people finding it after you searched and couldn't find it. Just my 2 cents ( Only worth 1 cent )
  9. On second thought, have the new person republish the cache, then the owner is close by, and no one has to go through the whole riga-ma-row of unarchiving an old cache, and worrying about maintenance. Just a suggestion.
  10. Only a reviewer can unarchive. Contact your local reviewer, and they can possibly help point you to the reviewer of that area.
  11. I think he may be referring to armchair cachers, and catching them in the act... If one armchair logs one of my caches, Yes, I will remove the log. If they are doing it to all the caches in the neighborhood while on "vacation", which I have noticed, I don't go and send mass emails to cache owners. I feel if the cache owners care about this, they will check the logs themselves. I have too much to do to sit around and play cache police. The one thing that does come out of it, is when you find one, and you see their large number of finds, a loss of respect for that number comes about. Now if referring to going back and checking caches I've found, that are clearly placed where caches are not allowed... If I know some information, I'll let the cache owner know, and refer them to a parks department or something, but I, again, leave it to the cache owner to do what they feel is right. Unless there is clearly a no tresspassing sign, or a nuclear waste dump, I'm not going to report it. Hope that answers your rather vague question.
  12. So... Will the official Geocaching™ app by Groundspeak™ be able to open up the cache page in safari by clicking on it, so we can field log, since the official Geocaching™ app by Groundspeak™ won't support logging at first?
  13. What he said, But make sure you are able to answer any questions they may have. Most folks are great to work with, and will be happy to let you place a cache. If you are nervous talking to someone face to face, you can use the phone or email, mostly just as effective. I prefer email, as then I have a hard copy of granted permission in case anything arises in the future.
  14. Basically, i don't really cache with the iPhone, I still use my 60CSX to find the cache. If I get to GZ and can't find it, I'll break out the iPhone, and use geopher lite to find the nearest cache, which is the one I'm looking for, and grab the hint, or look at past logs. Sometimes, if a FTF, or if I have some time to waste, I'll "Field log" my finds. I agree, it sucks to stamp the little guy out, and I'll keep using geopher, because it does what I want, but remember, even though just a hobby to most of us, Groundspeak is a business.
  15. Columbus parks is moving to a permit system as well... I've been in contact with them alot about it recently. I'd almost be willing to bet they copy the metro parks permit system, but who knows... I hope they will be less restrictive. We'll hopefully see by end of this month. I believe you've already proven my point. By your estimates, there has been an increase in the number of new bans/permits of over 60% in Ohio in less than 3 years. The statewide total of 21 separate permit systems include 3 that even you characterize as draconian. I doubt that Ohio is the leader in this stat. How do some of the other states compare? Are their any standouts? I'm just finding out that my new home state of Colorado has quite a few local permit systems in place.
  16. ok thanks, i've changed it. I live in the UK though, will it still be ok? Hopefully it'll work. Thanks again! Is there anything else i can do? Yes, You should be fine... The datum shift, depending on where you are could be 70 - 100m, so I would belive this could be it. Give it a whirl, and let us know if it helps.
  17. Change your Map Datum to WGS 84, and I believe you should be good to go. Geocaching using the WGS84 datum. Hope that helps!
  18. To all the TB/Coin Hoarders... I hope you get a never ending ice cream headache! (Gee, that wouldn't be fun)
  19. #3 - I disagree with, I say fertilize the heck out of the grass, and eventually it will burn up and die... Problem solved.
  20. Spoken from experience? Yeah! Geocaching is more important... I even let them turn off the electric so I'd have more gas money to go caching. Seriously, a couple years ago, a house next to mine went into foreclosure, and nosey me would read all the stuff taped to the door.
  21. Weird, Back in West Virginia where I grew up we had a "Devil's Tea Table" that somewhat matches that description. Hundreds of "Signatures" were carved into the rocks. Last time I looked, it had become fenced and posted.
  22. Leave it... Around here, if you let it go long enough, and ignore the "Noxious Weeds" notices the city puts on your door, they will nicely come and cut it for you while you are out caching. Of course, they send you a bill and fine totaling over 200 bucks.
  23. For crying out loud, here we go again. Do what you want, delete any logs you want, it's only a game! Some folks have valid reason to make their caches PM Only. Either some local kids who get an account for the sole purpose of stealing caches, a difficult find that could discourage a newbie, whatever the reason. All my active caches are PM for one of those reasons, but if any non PM finds it, I will be glad to let them log it. If someone wants to place a NON PM only cache, go for it. I do think it should be an unknown type with the ? as there is an additional logging requirement, since it can in fact be seen by everyone.
  24. It's not the size that counts, but the quality. ( Haven't we heard this in a different type of conversation ) I don't care the size of the cache, as long as I don't have to lift a lamp post skirt, and look at Wal Mart in the scenery.
