  1. I have a Garmin Mobile PC package that I no longer need (new phone/PDA has a GPS receiver built-in) that I would like to trade for any Garmin handheld GPS unit with a USB port (thinking that the eTrex line is the cheapest) so my kids can each have a handheld (already have an eTrex Venture HC). The Garmin Mobile PC package includes: GPS 10x Bluetooth GPS receiver Windows Mobile/Pocket PC navigation software (Garmin Mobile XT) Palm OS navigation software (Garmin Mobile XT) Windows navigation software (nRoute) City Navigator North America NT v8 maps for all 3 platforms All software and maps are on a DVD. The maps are locked to the GPS receiver, so you can install the software and maps on multiple devices across multiple platforms as long as you are using the external GPS receiver (maps will NOT work with other, including internal, GPS receivers). The maps and software are installed onto your own SD/microSD card (mobile) or hard drive (PC). Everything in the original package is included except for the box: GPS 10x receiver DVD with software and maps Lithium-ion battery (installed in GPS receiver) Belt-clip Vehicle power cable Setup guide Unlock code Everything is in like-new condition (the only sign of wear is that the rubber feet of the GPS receiver fell off, and I replaced this with other rubber feet than can easily be removed). Picture of my Garmin Mobile PC package for trade.
  2. After using my Treo and a Bluetooth GPS receiver for our first few cache finds (and not letting my kids hold my precious Treo in the outdoors), I finally got a handheld unit: the eTrex Venture HC. I just updated it to the latest software version (2.70). One question about this: Is there a way to set it so that the backlight is on by default when I turn it on? Right now, when I turn it on, the backlight is off. When I push the backlight button, it toggles between off, the level I set it at under Setup, and 100%. Thanks.
  3. Amazing is that the Venture HC appears to be selling for $139. I wonder what (if any) the compromises are.
