  1. I'm guessing that INTJ is yet another simplistic tag that the lazy can use to pigeonhole their fellow man Agreed, INTJ is simplistic but a useful tool. It suggests people with a preference for decision making based on lists and processes. {OT} However, understanding your own and other peoples preferences can be really useful. For example: it shows how some people are more prone to dictatorial decision making, and how others prefer an inclusive permissive approach. Neither you nor I have a monopoly on how you would run a voluntary activity for the benefit of "the general community" - but it strikes me that people who are good with people would do it better. Some of the heated and frankly rude exchanges in forums have shown how poor some folk are at dealing with people. Signing off for another few weeks... Note to self - do not feed the trolls.
  2. This is the first time I've posted here since May 16th. No wonder. [rant] If the whole world and all our lives were run in such an anally retentive fashion as the main forums on Groundspeak.com then I would have jacked in this life thing long ago. "Shoot first, ask questions later" is no way to run a "community". It does suit the INTJ types (Myers-Briggs personality types see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myers-Briggs_Type_Indicator) but they sometimes don't realise that there are at least as many people who disagree with them. [/rant]
  3. Interesting topic: I'm a chatty person and I'm likely to leave longer online logs for caches that have involved some effort on my part and when I've enjoyed the hunt. Of course, I'm not going to bother writing much if it wasn't much of a cache. The cachers I respect are those that always leave a kind word in the logs. Even a "Thanks" is welcome. I've recently taken a new tack with logs - trying to leave a log that will remind me of the day. I wonder if I'll actually go back and read them?
  4. Rock on Deci! Hang loose cachers. Bummer ain't it?
  5. Very sad to lose you two guys as reviewers. Make sure you take time and smell the roses - you leave behind an enriched community... and all that jazz.
  6. Best wishes for the missus and for you John, from everyone here I'm sure. To temporarily disable the cache just use the "Disable listing" option top-right of the cache page. I'm sure someone will be glad to adopt caches in the longer term.
  7. Aww, I miss it! Any chance of starting again with a "buy me a beer" icon on the site? How about a bit of sponsorship from us users then?
  8. Wow! This series is the future! Do they have to be near alleyways strewn with dubious rubbish to rummage through, or is that just a bonus?
  9. Oh my..I've just spent $7.00 You'll get your money's worth too! Check out their Ultrafire torches for next to nothing. and don't forget their completely non-PC jokes section. I have a semi-lethal electric shock pen for $2.00 which I lend out at events.
  10. It looks like I missed this. I might try it next year.
  11. That's easy - do you eat tea in the evenings? -> Northerner - do you eat dinner in the evenings? -> Southerner
  12. A quick list for your delectation: Ancoats to Islington (Cheshire Ring Series) (GCXF20) Piccadilly Village People (Cheshire Ring Series) (GCXGE4) Manchester Invasion (GC17CYK) Ancoats Treasure (Ancoats Pirates #1) (GC18QM8) SideTracked - Manchester Piccadilly (GC17D48) SideTracked - Manchester Victoria (GC1914A) SideTracked Deansgate (GC1953X) SideTracked Manchester Oxford Road (GC1953Z)
  13. I think some will be arriving around 6 What about a list of caches en route from the station to the pub? ...searching... That may delay me a smidge.
  14. A vote for RUTSON'S PATENT LIST OF UK COUNTIES. The administrative lists are easier to manage but subject to government shenanigans more frequently than our needs allow. The list shows a longer perspective.Where do itsnotaboutthenumbers.com get their list? That's what I really want. Unitary authorities are what really muck you about... Sorry I didn't chip in earlier: I've been away caching, planning caching (yes it is possible ) and doing jobs I put off because I was caching.
  15. I'll be there! Just put me on the right train please at the end of the night!

WHERE do you get that information? Here they are, look - Dizz.
  17. Aha! So - where is the backup? Can i delete it? is there a description of ll this somewhere? Thx.
  18. I tried that but still have my POIs. Thanks anyway. OK, that was weird. I used POILoader to clear my nuvi and the SD card of POIs. Restarted nuvi. Still had POIs. Selected My Locations then DELETE ALL. Got "Do you want to delete all favorites and POIs". Selected YES. Still had POIs. Then did DELETE ALL again and the POIs went away. Yahoo!!!!! No more dodgy Safety Camera Alerts. Perhaps the firmware is haunted?
  19. I tried that but still have my POIs. Thanks anyway.
  20. I have a nuvi 310 into which I've been loading geocaches as a bunch of POI files I just copy over to \garmin\Poi\ . And maybe I used POILoader in the past to add them to the POI file. Now I want rid of them! This is so I can start afresh. However, even when I have no POI files I still see POIs in My Locations\Custom POIs. What am I missing? How do I get rid of these POIs? Thanks.
  21. I totally agree. I've just joined the NWcachers on a day out on Anglezarke and it was good fun and motivating. Mr Lodgebarn invited me out for some bogtrotting to Fait Accompli yesterday too - a 3.5/4.5 and that was... bracing really... where did I put that oxygen cylinder? Group caching doesn't suit the introverts though.
  22. LOLs !!!! She might not be happy that post brightened my whole day!
