  1. Yeah, like wot Andy says.... What's wrong with Google Mail? I get alerts the second they are published. It's the automatically in the Geocaching app as it shows live caches around you anyway.
  2. I've got a puzzle cache where the headline co-ords are about 5 miles from the final. There were no limits when the cache was set. In fact, there were probably very few caches within those 5 miles anyway as caches were sparse back in 2005. There are some puzzle caches much further away from their headline co-ords than that.
  3. I agree, VERY harsh! Two recent attempts are from low find count cachers, and the last one is obviously clueless as they say that they pulled all the stones out of the wall.
  4. I can recommend Barcelona and Dublin. The ultra cheap Ryanair deals aren't around any more, sadly. A few years ago three of us went caching in Dublin for a day trip, total air fare, including all fees, charges and taxes was £0.06p. I did a few of those day trips, and we even got a FTF out there too!
  5. Thanks Bruce, it all seems to work very well! One suggestion though, you mention double clicking the .kml file opens up Google maps. It actually opens up Google Earth, and Google Earth needs to be installed (I'd not yet installed it on this laptop). Ta!
  6. Don't worry, you'll learn CO = Cache Owner D5 = Difficulty 5 rating D/T = difficulty/terrain
  7. Keep relogging it, and direct the CO here if they want to join in the discussion. Honest logs are good logs!
  8. Too late for a even! Mark I see you managed to host a event too . I must admit, I didn't hang about getting that one listed!
  9. Go for it. QR reader phones are getting more and more common. If you need to get people to decode in the field, up the difficulty a notch. There are LOADS of standard style multis, and you know what they say about Variety being the Spice of Life. This will be a little bit different. Do it
  10. Have a look through the GSAK macro library, and if nothing there, check the forum and ask there too
  11. Time to get this picture of me in Los Angeles. During a week caching in LA with Wadders and Cachemad we'd inadvertedly trespassed into college grounds and the LAPD followed us in in our car. After some discussion, we got off with a warning.... and a DNF!
  12. Whoah, offside! That's definitely cheating in my book! When we were on power trails in Los Angeles I'd prepared some very small stickers for the log, and replacing the sheet into the container was all part of the timing. At one point we were managing almost one a minute (and that was by bicycle) so it is possible to do it without cheating.

  14. Could you tell me a bit more? I have a Colorado, more's the pity, and I find its geocache mode almost unusable because it's so hard to do the "corrected coordinates" thing. There haven't been any firmware updates for my device since 2009. What I want to be able to do is just to change the coordinates it thinks the cache is at, so you can go to the next stage but still have easy access to the description etc. You just enter the next stage co-ords and you still have easy access to the description, logs etc.
  15. Entering next stages of multis is very easy now since a recent-ish Oregon software update.
  16. For some reason, I am getting the souvenir awards emails to an old email address (one I changed from a few months ago). I have no interest in the US and Germany state souvenirs which I think devalue some of the potentially more intersting/unique ones. If I could turn them off, I would do.
  17. Keep logging it until they get bored of deleting it. It's an honest and truthful log.
  18. What a ridiculous change. I'm giving very serious consideration to archive my Fossil Hunt earthcache as without the photo I have no idea whether they've bothered (or managed) to actually find a fossil. They could just say "I found a 30mm amonite" rather than persevere to find an actual specimen and take a photo of it with their GPS. I can't believe that *any* cachers don't have something able to take a photo with (whether camera or phone). What is the logic behind this change?
  19. I went out early this morning, glad to be able to borrow Cathy's car as I'd never have made it along the icy lanes in my car. I needed a cache today for my caching calendar, and I'd kept a few local-ish ones free for this weekend. I've never cached on Christmas Day before, but had a great walk in the woods with Ozzy, playing in the snow. Happy Christmas (or what's left of it) to one and all!
  20. I'm sure you've probably already tried - but you can resize the font in IE (and Chrome) by pressing the CTRL key and using the scroll wheel on your mouse? Mouse? I use a laptop on my lap.... A bit of a PITA having to scroll so much. The fancy sky/cacher/tree image at the top takes up a quarter of the screen!
