  1. I'll hold my hand up to one that I logged 7 years ago where the owner specifically stated that it was OK to log a picture of the webcam instead. I also logged two abroad which was during the time when a few were turned into "Virtuals". Any webcam that is working should be used, but an emphasis should also be directed to webcam owners to check the url's of the cameras on their cache pages to make sure they are still correct and also be strict with the logs received. We spent almost 30 minutes at Oxford Circus a few weeks ago, and almost as long at Abbey Road last week. They take a bit of planning and effort, and a mobile device or someone at home to help.
  2. I'm not going to mention specific people/logs as there are hundreds of poor attempts. The IndiHM Abbey Road log is excellent by the way, nice and clear.
  3. Does anyone else get fed up with people logging "Webcam photo taken" logs on webcam caches when either the webcam is down or they were unable to get someone to capture their picture for them? A photo of themselves with a digital camera is certainly not a webcam photo! In my opinion they should either post a note or a DNF if they are unable to do it properly..... even if they got up at stupid o'clock and/or travelled a million miles to get there.
  4. It's the persons honest log of their experience. I don't have a problem with it, and I wish more people would be as honest when they are logging (both positive and negative experences). There are far too many "TFTC" logs when people don't really mean it, and also too many people who don't log DNF's at all.
  5. I was walking along a path yesterdaty and a walnut fell off a tree and landed just in front of me. I should probably wait a while before I crack it open, but it was proper walnut, just quite small.
  6. Technically, "Dakota" is not a state, so I suggest you get the Garmin Dakota. Lovely piece of compact kit
  7. Ahhhh, happy memories.... when most caches were great, and you had to drive about 100 miles to get just 15 caches in a whole day!
  8. I confir... Borough are top tyres and very easy to get off and on with bare hands. It impresses my nephews anyway, when they have to use tyre levers to get their cheap tyres both off and on.
  9. I was at the committee meeting where the Golden Ammo Can was decided. There might be minutes somewhere, but I'm sure we're capable of commenting here and now. Firstly, I don't think this is a financial issue. Secondly, I disagree with your limiting of the options. The Golden Ammo Can was created to go to Mega Events. It didn't go to any events prior to Weston, Perth respected our wishes on this. I didn't take an interest in Mega Wales so lost track of it, but I think the golden can was also kept pretty much for the Mega. 3 out of 3 event committees went with our intentions, it would be a shame if the next committee decided to cheapen the exclusivity of the golden ammo can and let it out more often.
  10. Oh well... someone was bound to go against the original intentions of those who created it at some point.
  11. Thanks for that. I'd have never known about that one if you'd not posted that. Solved it in a few moments (I think?)
  12. Blimey, four Mega's in a year Four? I can think of one, and two further contenders.... but four?
  13. I said that "I suspect that..." therefore it is only my opinion. What I do see is a very few individuals in this forum who are critical of the GAGB and what they do. These are what I am referring to as a minority. I think so, yes. You should try it, tummy tickling isn't so bad
  14. I applaud the GAGB committee for going out of their way to do something positive for caching with the the best interests of the hobby as the reason for existing. I suspect that if each and every GB(UK) geocacher was given the facts about what they do and what they represent there would be an overwhelming amount of support for them. There seems to be a vocal minority here trying to break them apart, Give them a break, they are doing it in your own best interests.
  15. Looking at the positives for the cacher who was caught out like this, they will be able to complete one of the blocks on *mouse*'s Cachebusters grid. No points for guessing which one!
  16. Has anyone got any news from the cacher that was arrested? Pretty tough on you if all you were doing was replacing it! That could have been any of us in the same situation.
  17. If posts like yours asking for parking for a gig are allowed to remain, where will it stop? Every fortnight I might start asking for someone to allow me to park my car on their drive for the Exeter Chiefs away matches (cheers for the offer of a space near Kingsholm Fianccetto ). Yours might have died after a few days, but what if a few dozen people had asked similarly off-topic questions? It would quickly get annoying.
  18. c:geo is not going to be developed any further, so when it stops working the next time the geocaching.com site changes, that's your lot. End of.
  19. I can recommend (T)out and About which is a multi which takes you to Tout Quarry, which is a fairly fascinating place if you like stone carvings. Check out the gallery page. Also Hood View.
  20. Don't joke about it. Check the "description" of this cache GC16CNE and then look at my cheeky 2 logs of 8/9 October 2007 and the following log by Keehotee
  21. I have a bookmark list of all UK Challenge caches (any missing, please let me know!)
  22. Is this setting some kind of new precedent of posting about/promoting anything which has absolutely nothing to do with Geocaching? If so, I'd like to say that the last Exeter Chiefs Rugby match of the season is on 7th May at Sandy Park. See you there!
  23. Some people (not me) might say that having to walk 5 miles to a remote Dartmoor cache (for example) is tedious. My own opinion is that variety is the spice of life.
  24. Don't let these Grumpy Old Gits put you off. Go for it, and wait for feedback from finders once it's been found. If they all say it's rubbish, consider archiving it, if they enjoy it, keep it. Good luck!
