I think "You started it, you can finish it" applies here. You've said before that you have "the money time and inclination". I suggest you get on with it!

Latest OpenStreeMap UK Garmin Mapsets...
Stuey replied to talkytoaster's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
The forum is being used to provide updates to a product that many other people already use. Of course it has some worth! OSM users think it is wonderful! The alternative is we all beaver away on our own creating our own Garmin map layers from the OSM data, duplicating effort. Martin decided to share his hard work with us ad for that we are very grateful. For me OSM is less of a dead parrot, more of a hatching egg. There are plenty of us who have contributed so far and plenty who are willing to nurture it all the way to a fully grown adult Norwegian Blue! -

I've got the routes and will sort them out for you. -

You get paid to cache (or set them, promote caching etc.)? -
"We need a 6 month ban..." revisited.
Stuey replied to The Blorenges's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Still plenty of room for more. What we could do with is more honest logs that state if people didn't enjoy certain types of cache. This might lead to archival of some unpopular ones, freeing up even more room for new ones. -
Birdie's Cache Setting Challange
Stuey replied to Birdman-of-liskatraz's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
I think they're all too hard/devious/complicated for most people to bother with. Ho hum -
Big respect to you! Sandwiched between Sir Arthurc C Clarke at #7 and Sir Clive Sinclair at #5. I was interested to see that Arthur C Clarke is credited with the idea of geostationary satelites.... so it's nice to see another Geocaching related topic in there too

Container to fit in a drainpipe
Stuey replied to HouseOfDragons's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Only the sort of scoundrel who would watch from the dry warmth of their office while cachers scrabble around in pouring rain, examining the walls, floral troughs, windows... MrsB Scrabble around, examining walls, troughs, windows etc? You should try caching with Wadders more often. This is part of my log for that one: "Robin had come out and told us that that was probably the quickest he'd ever seen it done. All in a days work for an elite bunch of Devon cachers!" hehe -
Just used this to do a few aerial photos which came out really well. Ironic thing was, I used google maps to get a jpg, then loaded and calibrated it in google earth. Is there a way I can get the map to the Garmin direct from google earth?

Where to go for a weekend away caching in the UK?
Stuey replied to awatsonclan's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
hehe, I can recommend the area too... seeing as I live here . I was in Southampton last weekend. It's just about 2 hours drive, lots of nice scenery, the coast, history, and some great caches. -
Looking at your avatar John, I didn't know you had a boat? If you ever want to test it out on the sea and get a few "by sea" access only caches, let me know! The tomtom gsak macro is great... surprised you've not seen it before. We should have more local events to chat about this stuff!

Lovely! I really must put Ewan's caches on my todo list

London Royal Parks - Geocaching refused
Stuey replied to Graculus's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
But are there more than 260 that care? Or are there more than 260 that go against the wishes of the landowner? -
London Royal Parks - Geocaching refused
Stuey replied to Graculus's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
You are not helping matters with your continuous disregard for both the wishes of the Royal Parks and our volunteer reviewers. This really has to stop. -
Had our copy in the post today. Not a bad article at all. A few anomolies such as Calibri has already mentioned, and the "buried" treasure, but on the whole a very good read and I'm sure it will drum up a bit of custom!

They all sold on eBay a few weeks back... Made a tidy sum by all accounts

A e-mail would be nice? The needs maintenance feature is there to be used.... I'd prefer to use it instead of an email. That way it saves anyone else going down the same route as other cachers know someone else is on the case.
-
I regularly post Needs Maintenance logs. I'm not ashamed, no need to hide behind a sock puppet. Shame that not more people feel able to post them without any comeback. I wouldn't call them a bully, just someone who doesn't want to start tit-for-tat logs perhaps?

Map Generator Findstatgen3.gsk
Stuey replied to ForsdykeFinders's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
I can't help with the map, but your Wanstead Cache Bonus will be fine if you use the "Corrected Co-ordinates" option in your Found database and adjust the co-ords to nearer where the actual cache is. -
Always plan a holiday around caches.... Whether it is for a new county, country or continent... or just somewhere with enough to keep me supplied with caches.

No popups here

If anyone wants to borrow South West Coast Path (South) for a few weeks in exchange for another map area card where I might be able to go caching, please let me know.

Pepper pots: the new 35mm film canisters
Stuey replied to Tortoiseshell's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Seen several of these now. One is in a mobile cache based in Germany owned by a cacher with a single letter caching name. Another one is at a cache in Honiton. They're really ingenious like you say.... I think I'll make a few next time I need some 35mm containers. -
That's what I did. Came from Manchester I think, desipte looking like it was going to come from USA?

(off topic - I did three new countries in a matter of hours (link), so we'll have to share that record )
