I'm guessing it's
Global Positioning System
vs.
Global Positioning System reciever
and geocachers use recievers?

Is there a difference between a GPS and a GPSr or are they interchangable acronyms?
-
I have an eXplorist 100 and it is perfect. it shows me my coordinates and thats all i need. I just nabbed my 300th find with it
-
to me it sounds like you are getting a weak signal or your gps is no good. either way, a DNF is not a failure.
-
just log it as a note and its fine to stop by a found cache to grab a travelbug. people do it all the time
-
my best advice is to go find some first. then you'll have some examples on what works. either way try to make sure its waterproof. altoid tins and key holders are not waterproof and the logs get all wet

it keeps telling me to leave a URL before putting my image up. what is that? I want to upload an image.
you have to host the image somewhere. I use tinypic.com
go there and then browse for your image and then hit upload. the pic will load and then the site will give you a url to the pic. put that url in thi forum and it should come up. its easier done than said. trust me.

FRONT
BACK
(the paper towel was stuffed in to emphasize the graphics)
I'm gunna go to Cali and find all the caches you have so i can get one. Those are awesome.

I've been "contacted through geocaching.com" at least 12 times for this cache A mystery Cache. I've declined every request.
some of these mystery caches are crazy. I don't even know where to start on solving that.
this ones in my area and I'm clueless, yet people are finding it

I wear Hi-Tec Quantums. I love them. And they were half price during an awesome sale at a sporting goods store.

The first line in my profile used to say "I respectfully request that no hints be given to me.", ......Future dnf's I will write that I don't want hints.
I'm not really sure how many people or cache owners really take the time to read the profile information. I know to send you an email they will have to access your profile. But, do they really scroll down or read anything? I guess all they are doing is pressing the link for your email address. I think if you don't want a hint your idea of adding a note to your DNF's is the best thing to do.
Again, this doesn't happen around here so you all must have some generous cache owners. On the plus side of things be thankful they are taking the time to read their emails. Try to get an owner to reply to a "needs maintenance" or "needs archived".
yeah i figured since they access my profile to e-mail me they would see the message especially since it had stars and was in caps, but I guess not. it looked like this
**********"I RESPECTFULLY REQUEST THAT NO HINTS BE GIVEN TO ME"***********

I don't carry a gun, but as I hike in more remote areas I think I may start. I've only shot a gun once so far so it would be a while before I get permits and such.
So do you carry a gun? What kind? Have you ever used it? On animals?
-
I was in this position once before and I suggested the cachers e-mail the cache owner.
-
I'm suggesting that the reviewer just prompt the hider to get permission or whatever. if the hider gets no permission, then the cache doesn't get published.
Umm.....yeah. That's why permission is already part of the guidelines. Every cache that gets submitted requires the hider to check the box saying they have read and understand these guidelines.
I see. I did not know that. As I stated I haven't placed a cache yet and did not know.

I recently cached in an area that potentially has snakes. I researched the snakes and such and the one piece of advice that stuck out above all advice I got on the internet was this:
"Don't let your fear of snakes keep you from enjoying the outdoors"
After reading that I decided to push on. I am vigilant, but I won't let unwarranted fears keep me from doing what I want to do. Like not going outside for fear of being struck by lightning. Precautions are always helpful and don't hurt BTW.

Hal.
Hal who?
Hal many knock knock jokes does it take to get a thread closed.

Luck.
Luck who?
Luck through the key hole and you'll find out.

Not my story, but here is a very good thing that happened because someone was geocaching.
thats awesome

had a few email me saying that they checked on their cache, found that it was indeed missing, and because of this, wanted me to log a "find" on it. I guess this is a nice gesture but it's not something i would ever want to do. I didn't find the cache so i'm sure not going to log it as a find.
I was kinda in the same boat last week. it was a cache hanging over a canal overpass on a thin wire. I reeled in the wire and on the end was the cache lid, but no cache itself. I logged a maintenance request but I wondered if I should log a find. I decided not to since technically I did not find the cache.

can we still be friends?

Getting back to the topic...
Perhaps you should actually read the forum guidelines. Maybe that's why you don't seem to get it.Keep on topic: Responses to a particular thread should be on-topic and pertain to the discussion. Users should use the New Topic button to start a new discussion which would otherwise be off-topic in the current thread. Threads that are off topic may be closed by the moderator.I "get it". I just don't see it the same way.
Then you don't get it, do you. If you did get it, then you would agree to disagree, would politely apologize to the moderators and would be asking us to close this topic and you would move on. That is obviously not the case. No, you don't get it. It is very simple.
We apply the guidelines the way Groundspeak asks us to in these forums.
As has been noted in this topic, feel free to do it any way you "see it" in your own forums. If you want to use these forums, then you agree to abide by the Terms of Use for the forums.
I "get it". I just don't see it the same way is agreeing to disagree. At least thats what I meant. I don't think I owe anyone an apology. I don't see why this thread necessitates closing. It's dying on its own. I want to use these forums and I dont think that I have not abided by the terms of use for the forums. (except one time back when i first started posting here. I was warned and haven't done it again"

I have no experience with it, but I think geocaching would make for an awesome date.

Yes. This has happened to me 3 times already. I hate it. I do not want hints. Yet 3 times I've logged a DNF and the owners then e-mail blatant hints to me. The first line in my profile used to say "I respectfully request that no hints be given to me.", but 2 of the times were when I had that written so it didnt stop anyone. Future dnf's I will write that I don't want hints.
NIGHT CACHING! TIPS
in General geocaching topics
Posted
I love night caching. I am a night owl as it is so I find that caching at night fits my schedule. I just take my gps and my mini mag, but I only cache for urban micros at night. The streets are a lot less crowded at night to so its easier to navigate in an urban setting while night caching.
