Hmmmm... from my background I thought you were a medic in the First Infantry Division. (The Big Red One). How wrong I was!

Funny, my first thought was that he was a corpsman on the USS Nebraska.

    That is also very true.

But to use geocaching.com to advertise it with an actual cache when the Forest Service has a policy to not make the location public, is something else. I would hope you would see the difference. The main reason I bring this up is that National Forest lands are one of the few areas where we as cachers have open access to hiding caches with very few restrictions. Why make a bad name for ourselves by advertising the location with a cache.

Well, I guess I only believe about 75% in what I said.

Government agencies protecting people from themselves is a HUGE pet peeve of mine. If Joe Bob can't stop himself from jumping down a giant crevice in the woods, seems to me he'll find a way to hurt himself out of the woods.

Yes, it may be the USFS official (sounds more unofficial to me) policy to me, but I can't imagine how that area is more dangerous than a lot of the places I've been in National Forests and National Parks. Don't go down in that hole means the same thing as don't step off that cliff to me.

Anyway, don't worry, I won't be putting a cache there, and it doesn't sound like any of you will either, so the point is moot. icon_smile.gif

Just to play devil's advocate, can't anyone who can find information on a geocache just as easily look in this thread and find the coordinates now?

I guess I would think a cache near there might be kind of cool as long as the dangers and warnings are outlined on the cache page.

I doubt too many people would go anyway. I was the FTF on the Dog Mountain Trail cache about a month and a half ago and since then there has been 3 others who have found it. And there is a popular trail right to it.

  6. A couple of people have mentioned that it might be nice to have a get together for West Sound cachers (of course, all cachers would be welcome, if they have the desire to drive or take the ferry over).

Does anyone hve any interest in a picnic?

I was thinking at Pendergast park in Bremerton since it's kind of central and there are at least five caches there.

I was also thinking some Sunday afternoon in August would be a good time. (Other than the second weekend in August).

    Any thoughts / suggestions?

Uh.. If you didn't recognize that suggestion for what it was, an illustration of what would happen, in the opinion of Fledermaus, if the rules aren't more flexible, you need to put on a shirt over your wife-beater t-shirt and get out of "NYC Metro" - New Jersey - for awhile. icon_rolleyes.gif

And in any case, I'll take a cacher who has 1 hide for every 6 finds over one who has taken 933 caches and given back 17 - all of which have been archived, save one - and 2018 posts into the forum.

Well, I was going to try to stay out of this completely, but I can't let that go without comment.

I've been caching since February, I have 67 finds of which 20 have been cahces Fledermaus has hidden. I still have about 30 of his to find. He's done A LOT for this game in the area we live in, and deserves better than that comment.

Secondly, while I can't vouche for 296 of his claims, he has signed the log in the four of mine that he has claimed.

For some reason this has become a very emotional issue for everyone.

Step back for a second, everyone. It's just a game. It's just a game. icon_smile.gif

Of course, Star Wars characters should not appear at Star Trek conventions. They are from completely different fictional universes. The combination of the two may destroy the universe as we know it. icon_razz.gif

Hmm.. An interesting argument. Maybe I should stop writing that Kirk meets Darth Vader fan fiction for the sake of us all.

(No, not really. I'm a nerd, but not THAT big of a nerd.)

I said they should let Star Wars people come because it had such a cross over many people would enjoy both. Besides, I wanted to meet Lando.

I was later vindicated when most Star Trek conventions became "sci-fi" conventions.

Anyway, kind of a silly argument, which was the point. icon_razz.gif
