  1. You meant to say: up to Climber's Bivouac, right? Heh. Yeah. Down the road and up the hill.
  2. So my plan for Friday is: Get to Jack's at around 5 to pick up our reserved permits. From there go down to Climber's Bivouac to set up camp. Anyone getting a permit from me can meet me at the camp and secure it . (Red Xterra, look at the pic in my profile.) If anyone is meeting down there in the morning, we'll have to make another arrangement for permits (shouldn't be tough, we are geocachers.) Permits are $15, which I'll take cash or check since I have to buy them all at once. Cell phones DO NOT work at the camp. I'll be on FRS 2.
  3. I guess it is called "Above the Clouds." Anyway, rain never hurt anyone - unless you're the Wicked Witch of the West or Grand Forks, ND.
  4. Until a couple of weeks ago, I forgot what rain looked like. Anyway, that forecast is for four days from now. Might as well be for four years from now.
  5. Cougar, WA: Sat Sep 11 Rain 69°/57° 60 % C'mon! Change!
  6. Who are you? Anyone else suspicious? Criminal bows out and all of a sudden Jeremy is interested. (Where is Clark? He just missed Superman!) Anyway, I will draw straws as soon as I can get motivated to find some straws. Probably Sunday night.
  7. no, i think the word i used was "detained". "asked some questions" does not involve two hours and four officers with lights flashing. it's not a sob story. there was no brutality involved. but the fact is, i was DETAINED for questioning when, in fact, i was standing around with a GPS, which you said would never happen and if it did, you'd be the first one to call foul. at least i think that was you. maybe that was just somebody logged in on your account. OK, you were detained for two hours for taking pictures of a bridge, that sucks. I will revise my statement to very unlikely to happen. Maybe the cops were way out of line, that's not unheard of, but it still sounds weird to me. The couple times a cop's asked me what I was doing, I told him and that was the end of it. Next time I'll lecture him on my civil liberties and see if that makes things worse or better...
  8. Just heard from Criminal. He's out. So... let's get a recount of who would be interested in that permit.
  9. i've already been detained for questioning. Only because you were standing around with a GPS? I doubt it. What's the whole story? i was standing around with a GPS. and taking pictures. because a bridge was pretty. So you were asked some questions because you were taking pictures of a bridge? What a harrowing story. Please, get it on tape before you're gone and the world forgets.
  10. Yes, suspicious activity around the White House, didn't have much to do with the GPS.
  11. I just heard from him. He's at work. He's a government employee, so he hardly works most days, I'm not sure why he went in today. Sounds like the brunt is going to be north of Miami anyway.
  12. Well, if Miami's airport is destroyed by Frances I think my brother will be out... Developing... Anyone heard from Criminal lately? He was the only one who wasn't 100%.
  13. i've already been detained for questioning. Only because you were standing around with a GPS? I doubt it. What's the whole story?
  14. Oh boo-hoo. If I'm hanging around acting weird, which I usually appear to be when looking for an urban micro, I'm actually pretty impressed when an officer or security guard asks me what I'm doing. It means they're doing their job. I'll be the first to call foul if someone is hauled off just because geocaching looks funny. But that's not going to happen.
  15. .....more numbers........it seems that yesterday two cachers spent 10 hours (not counting another 4 hours driving time) between them to find ONE cache and place ONE cache. You guys are off-the-freakin-hook. Caches like that are the reason I'd love to see SGPS implemented around here.
  16. Well, the odds of that seem pretty good Yeah, no doubt. My coins are all going on trips out of state.
  17. I don't. Well, most rational readers, maybe, but Joe Treehugger and Jill Ranger who know nothing about geocaching are going to hone in on that word and envision a bunch of people running into wilderness areas, parks, whatever with shovels. They'll have a good cry, or meditate to realign their cosmic energy or whatever they do, and then start working on a ban. Is it so hard to say "hidden"? There should be a press kit that gets that idea across to the reporters who write stories - actually in this case it was the editor who wrote the teaser.
  18. Only for that one summer in college. I still can't shake the taste for chicken heads.
  19. Did they say "buried treasure"?
  20. That's what they always say, "Hi-tech treasure hunt." That doesn't bother me. Until they start saying things like buried treasure.
  21. What wasn't cool was that they had a lead-in to the story on the top of B1 (story was on B4 or something), and they had a picture of one of the kids with a GPS and to the left of it in bold was: "Buried Treasure." ARgh.
  22. Done Green, saving Gold for moutain bike later this fall. Probably will head east from work. Anyone done Snakes that Rattle 1 & 2? Edit: Er, just 2. Looks like 1 has been archived.
  23. If you go on Sunday, you might run into me on the trail, as I'll be there again, this time with my family, kids, and a friend. I'll be out of commission this weekend. Wife's family is going to be in town starting Saturday. My mother-in-law griped about walking up the hill to Ghost Fort in Ft. Worden, so I doubt I'll get her out hiking. That's why I'm trying to find something to do after work one day this week.
