  1. When i'm off into the woods from my car I hold down the "find" button on my 60csx which is the "man over board" feature and marks the spot quickly....just isnt as accurate. Plenty acurate to find your way back however.
  2. It doesnt really tell the story of you not ever finding these caches before you started maintaing them....which would justify you logging the finds.
  3. I guess I would edit the cache listings to say just what you said in your post here. You were asked to adopt all these caches for previous owner but first you went and found them all and after you found them you began maintaining them. I see no way anyone would bother complain-e-mailing someone for doing such a thing. It's great you took all these caches over and if someone has a problem.....as everyone else says, WHO CARES! hit the delete button and move on.
  4. Got a good laugh out of this one. A pretty new cacher in the area, numbers are climbing fast over the past couple months and with finds like this it's no wonder why! August 17 by XXXXX(XX found) Changed my thing to say found it since I know where it should be, but you can't get there due to all the construction. August 16 by XXXXX (XX found) I say it needs maintenance due to the area is all torn up and surrounded by a fence and should be relocated. July 27 by cacher Still unavailable to cachers - fencing/construction all around the cache site. July 8 by cacher The area surrounding the coords is blocked off by construction fencing and it torn up. June 23 by cacher 1840 - We found this one easily. My 2 kids, age 7 and 9 and I are on an 11 state road trip to Mt. Rushmore, Yellowstone, Glacier. Mom is meeting us to join us at the NPS parks. Glad we found this cache along the way. Thanks for hiding it. June 23 by caher Just thought I should let anyone who might go look for this one that the area directly around the cache is under construction and will be for the next year and a half. I dont know if the cache needs to be moved but they put up a tall barbed wire fence today and I dont know if you can even get to GZ anymore. The owner should go take a look around and possibly move/archive until the construction is over.
  5. I usually stick my gps in the hiding spot, if it's big enough. If not I use the belt clip and stick it on my belt/pocket/bag and I usually mark it as "found" as I'm walking away which usually ensures I dont forget it somewhere at GZ.
  6. One hider around here has lost 9 amo cans in a year. Going to have to avoid using the words "ammo can" in the description and/or use a phony name for hides.
  7. The bison tube, no problem...the link for your "need a challenge" in your signature....hate it
  8. In high school a buddy of mine would always drive around town with a mcdonalds cup on his roof but he would have a strong magnet in the bottom of the cup. He would drive around and see how many people would try to tell him about his cup on his roof.
  9. Of course this would happen tonight. I have a day off tomorrow and wanted to go on a cache finding craze. I deleted all my previous caches and was going to select 50 or so and send them to the gps and have a few less caches clogging up my screen. So I come home and try to "send to gps" and nothing. GRRR! haha, oh well- Guess I'll have to do it another way- just wish I wouldnt have deleted all my caches from before.
  10. I've been at it for a few years and wish I had more time to dedicate to it because I've found less than 30 so far! My best advice for you since you are starting out is to read a lot of log entries for the caches you are looking for. Not only do they give hints as how to find the cache but they will sometimes tell you the easier way to the cache itself. Sometimes finding the best parking spot is the tough part. Developing one's "geosense" is critical. Get the first few under your belt and you will begin to figure out what to look for when you get near the cache. Getting hints from logs really helps when you are starting out. Then, the more you do the less you should need/want the hints available to you. I'm finding that the only thing I want to know about the cache before I look for it is the coordinates and the container size. I try not to read the logs before I go because often they give me hints that make the find too easy. I like to see how people did not find the cache when they were out looking for it. This is also a bit of a guage of how hard the cache might be for you. If there are very few DNF (did not find) entries than it should be an easier cache, but if there are as many DNF as finds then you know you're in for a tough one. DONT be afraid of not finding a cache. It's dissapointing but for me the real reason I'm out looking for caches is to get out of the house and into area's I wouldnt otherwise go. I've learned a lot about the area around me and the city I live in by looking for these tupperware/ammo cans/peanut butter jars that are usually filled with nothing useful! haha. It's the hunt and the knowledge of the area that I'm after. Geocaching is like anything else in life you have to learn. It's tough for a little while but put just a little effort into it and it gets easier and more rewarding! I'll see if I can come up with a list of cache suggestions for you when you come to the hiills this summer. What kind of caches are you looking for? Easier drive up caches? Ones on tops of mountains? Ones along scenic trails? Lakes? There are so many out here it's tough to decide which ones to go after. Good luck!
  11. All fairly easy explainations, just look to the top of the forum under "Getting Started" and then click on " READ FIRST: GEOCACHING FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS" Then look for the acronyms section. As long as you promise to read the FAQ I'll tell you what they mean....ok? DNF - Did Not Find TFTC - Thanks For The Cache SL - Signed Log
