  1. The cache you are referring to is a traveling cache. It moves from place to place. It started in New York so that is what the cache page says for the state. But it is currently in Colorado with the intention of it going to GeoWoodstock in July. These caches are no longer allowed by Geocaching HQ, but this one is grandfathered in. GC7572 If its a traveling cache then that means the owner can move to whatever state (even country) they wanted to if it's to stay in Colorado, it should be listed as Colorado, since it hasn't been in NY recently. Once the cache is published you cannot change the state listed on the cache page. The coordinates for that cache are updated when the cache is moved. That is what is important.

  3. Pond Bird is saying that this cache is NOT in Union Springs even though the map on the cache page clearly says Union Springs to the right of the cache. He might also be complaining that Union Springs is not a village, but according to all sources on the internet I've found it is a village. But in all honesty, who cares if the CO says its in/near a village/town/city - it doesn't really matter. The GC code is actually: http://coord.info/GC6GBAF There used to be another cache on that island called "Gilligans Island". I was FTF on it. The cache listings only contain fields for a CountryID and a StateID. Those are just labels for an integer identifier. If some enters a city, county, town, village, or hamlet name it's only going to appear in the description. Whoops.. one too many letters. My apologies.
  4. This is probably by mistake and they don't even realize they've logged the cache multiple times. You could send them a link to this page or even this tool. Again, this doesn't mean that they didn't attend the event. Logging via the official app doesn't permit the cacher to change the date of the log. If someone attends an event and then submits the log via the app later, which is perfectly allowable, then they aren't presented with the option to modify the date. Also, many cachers don't seem to know that they even can change the date of their log when they log online or through an app that allows changing the date. And some cachers that do know changing the date is an option don't understand why it matters to use the correct date. If someone feels so passionately about other cachers doing things the 'right way', then perhaps that someone should try to help educate by sending a friendly email/message and providing links to appropriate Help Center articles. I believe I know the event that Pond Bird is referring to, as it was my event. GC6EMJD A brand new cacher with ONE FIND came to the event. I noticed he had not logged it so 2 days later I sent him a message explaining that events do count as finds and that he should write an "Attended" log for the event so he would get credit. His log has a date of 4/24/16 when the event was on 4/22/16. Like I said this cacher had ONE FIND before the event (now two) and only uses the Geocaching app. I doubt he has any idea about changing dates or that he should change the date or not. But does it really matter? He was there. Pond Bird even saw him. It's not affecting your caching in any way.
  5. I believe I know one of the caches the OP is referring to. GC6GBAF - it is located on Frontenac Island in Cayuga Lake. The cache page says: Pond Bird is saying that this cache is NOT in Union Springs even though the map on the cache page clearly says Union Springs to the right of the cache. He might also be complaining that Union Springs is not a village, but according to all sources on the internet I've found it is a village. 6. If they didn't search for the cache thats one thing. But that's getting us off topic. I saw some logs removed that were "found it" logs in lieu of DNF logs. But i still see people logging finds multiple times on the same cache. And people logging they attended an event 2 days after it actually happened. The official Geocaching app does not let you change the date. Since a lot of new cachers only use the app and not a computer they sometimes have an incorrect date. But it doesn't affect you at all.
  7. Thanks for sharing. This is certainly enlightening. From the "Post Reviewer Note" on that cache, it sounds like there were several DNF logs that were reinstated. Looking through the CO's other hides, there certainly are a lack of DNF's on most of them. Knowing that the CO has deleted DNF's in the past, then I'd wonder how accurate the cache history is on the other caches. Seems odd, to me, to advocate accurate cache history in regards to finds but not in regards to DNF's. I only deleted a couple. It was a user named Eyeash that saw I deleted his log it wasn't his that was the fradulent one it was another but the reviewer saw I deleted another log in addition to Eyeash's hence the reviewer note. My other caches do have DNF logs to show the history of them. I do not delete DNF logs anymore even if they are fradulent. There has been a big spike in accounts just logging DNFs on caches a better thing to do would be a "write note" - I didn't look because of the DNFs please check." instead of "Add me to the DNF list" if you don't look don't expect to be on the list of DNFs, be on the "will search once situation on this one is that it is definitely there." There is no indication that any of the DNFs are what you are calling "fraudulent." How do you determine if someone DIDN'T find the cache? Eyeash's log says nothing out of the ordinary, nor do any of the others. I have no idea why you would delete them. DNFs don't count for anything so what is the point of deleting them? Who cares if the cacher actually didn't find it or not?
  8. I know the cache Pond Bird is talking about. He had 3 caches along the same trail come out at the same time. Naturally a bunch of people went looking for them after an event in the morning. No one could find the one particular cache so they all posted DNFs. He decided to delete some of them for some reason. It wasn't found until over a month later. GC56JT4
  9. I don't understand the point of deleting a "Did Not Find" log. Really, how do you know the person didn't find it? And again, who cares?
  10. Keep in mind that the Reviewers are volunteers. They do not get paid to do this and they most likely have a real job that they have to go to every day. They publish caches over spans of 100s of miles and don't have time to check every single detail on the cache page. They check to make sure the cache meets the guidelines. Following the GPS coordinates is probably the safest bet.
  11. HUH, sure does..... At least I can open it in the app now without trying to copy/paste GC codes.... now why not make it so I (and everyone else) who receives notifications does not have to tie up / visit the website just to navigate to a new cache. Thanks Sherminator18 Right. I don't see why it has to take you to the website before you can select to open the app. I liked the old way better. Where you get a pop up asking if you want to open the website (on whatever internet platform you use) or open it in the app. There was a point where I was still getting this option but selecting "Open in App" didn't do anything. I still don't use the official Geocaching app anyway.
  12. Apparently, for iPhone users, you have to be using the native iPhone email app and Safari. When the cache opens in Safari you can pull down on the screen and there will be an option to open in the app. Still no fix for Gmail app and Google Chrome...
  13. I also have this problem. I am using an iPhone 6s. When I click a cache link in my Gmail it opens in Google Chrome. Geocaching responded to me on Twitter saying "You might have private model turned on. Turn off private mode & it will work." This is not true. 1) I'm not using Safari and 2) I am not in private mode. Is there a fix for this yet?
  14. No! I hated the home page being the search page! I went right back to my profile page right away anyway. I never use the search
  15. I tried using the Geocaching app today. Every time I added a waypoint to a cache the app crashes. Anyone else experiencing this?
  16. Agreed 100% Hans Yes please! I don't see myself using it at all without that option, as the next step would be to make a PQ. There's not an option for this already? Shouldn't that be kind of an automatic thing?
  17. So with the new update for the app.. you can't CREATE an offline list from the app?? You can only use lists you've created on geocaching.com for offline use? Not much of an improvement in my opinion. And not even available on iPhone yet like they promised.
  18. I've noticed that when a new cache gets published it does not show up in the Geocaching App right away. I go to the map to try and use the app for FTF hunts or even just to scope out the location but new caches won't show up, even though I got the email notification for it. The newly published caches show up right away on a third party app that I use. Might want to look into this. Anyone else seeing this?
  19. Wherigo only has an app for iOS. The only app for Android is WhereYouGo
  20. Here are the things I feel are more important to be added to this app: 1) The ability to create offline lists from the app, not just from the website. And the ability to save your logs (whether in the app or through field notes) to send later. You can't send a log if you don't have cell service. 2) The ability to add a favorite point to a cache. 3) The ability to drop or visit a trackable from the app when you log the cache. 4) The ability to log a Needs Maintenance log (even if this is for premium members only, idc) 5) Have the app NOT jump to the map screen right away. That uses a lot more data than jumping to a menu screen when you open it. 6) Allow me to view my personal notes for caches. And not that this is a big deal but I'd like to be able to see my souvenirs like on the old paid app. I personally like to take a screen shot of any new souvenirs I earn and post on Instagram or something. If you're having all these new souvenirs why not have a way to view them from the app?
  21. I'm still not seeing the option to drop/visit a trackable from your log or the ability to favorite a cache. What gives?
