  1. Why is it that you add features such as the ability to view a list on a map to iPhone first and not to Android? It makes sense to make these new features available to everyone at the same time..
  2. This version with the clustering was just released to me yesterday on my iPhone. I had heard about a week or so ago that others were talking about the app having the clustering. I'm assuming they had Android phones and it was already available to them last week.
  3. Years before I started geocaching, I had three buckets I put states in. 1) States I've slept in 2) States that I've hiked in 3) States that I've touched the soil but nothing else I've always loved road trips. After I retire I would love to do a National Parks road trip. Says the guy that drove from NY to Seattle by himself Yes I think you like Road Trips. But I wanna do a National Parks trip! I won't be retiring for a long time tho...
  4. Well, yeah, you have to have an account to host an event or hide a cache, log finds, etc. If the kids had their own account, they could have the event published under that account. B. I'm just saying what happened in the instance I am talking about
  5. You could also follow @GoGeocaching, which is the official Groundspeak Twitter account. They've been known to tweet about new souvenirs on there, and that's the first place I heard about a few of them. ...or, just keep an eye on my website! I guess I'll follow the twitter account, the only upcoming souvenir listed is "Get outdoors day" but I'd like to know whats going on for August this year. You'll find out like the rest of us when/if they announce a souvenir promotion for August. So far they haven't announced anything about, but when they do, it'll be in the Newsletter and/or Blog. That's correct. They haven't announced anything yet. I have heard that SOMETHING will happen this summer similar to the past couple years. And also that there will be something for International Geocaching Day in August.
  6. That is an excellent example of an acceptable answer that I'm looking for, I just don't want to violate any guidelines for event hosting. People with beliefs against hot chocolate can buy something else, or bring their own beverage. The event plan is still in the works so I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet. That is a restriction for all of geocaching. There is nothing specific pertaining to events. I've known of kids hosting events and posted them under their parents accounts. As long as you are capable of setting up the event and running it it's fine. Just keep in mind that attendees cannot be required to purchase anything in order to attend the event. I've had events at pizza places or breakfast places before and I can't mention on the cache page about being required to purchase food. Some reviewers are even strict about naming the specific restaurant where you're holding the event. Just something to consider If kids are "hosting events" under their parents accounts, the parents are probably hosting the event but the kids are taking credit for it. Technically the parent account would be "taking credit" for it because the event got published under the parent account. I've known kids that have done this and wrote up the cache page, set up the event area, prepared a log book, gave prizes, etc. but just didn't have their own account to actually publish the event.
  7. Usually in the Geocaching Blog, and/or in the weekly newsletter. The Blog/newsletter is used for announcing most of the promotional souvenirs that are often based on a specific date (or date range, as was the case for the souvenir a day in August a couple of years ago.) The blog/newsletter and even forum posts were used to announce that last batch of country/region based souvenirs. However, there is *usually* a souvenir available for Mega/Giga events and those are listed on A-Team's souvenir page. Can I get the link to the souvenir blog/newsletter? www.geocaching.com/blog is the link to the blog Also if you go to your account settings, and then Email Preferences you can select to receive emails when they post something new or have a new announcement. This is how I find out about most of the souvenirs they have coming out.

  9. This is just my opinion but I think it would be acceptable if it is made clear that the hot chocolate purchase is optional not mandatory. If you word it that way I think that would be fine. I think I've said things along those lines before. And yes, geocaching.com does have an age restriction of 13 years old, 1) you don't have to be 13 to host an event and 2) no one really enforces this rule and I don't think they even ask for your birthday when you sign up

    APE Cache

Found one that went for over 1,000 dollars. Thats quite a lot of money don't see one for less but I'll keep looking later. $1000 for a trip to Brazil is reasonable. When I did some calculations it would have been about $2600 I think for two people. The lodging is very cheap there at the park. And when you consider all the things you would be doing for the trip that this travel agent has it's very reasonable in comparison to a similar trip somewhere else that far away.
  11. There is no minimum age to host an event. Also it will not get published if you have listed on the cache page that people will be purchasing the hot chocolate. There can't really be any mention of money. Also guests to the event cannot be forced to purchase anything in order to attend the event.

    APE Cache

http://www.vacationsmadeez4u.com/rwt/view/513 Here is a travel agent that does trips down to Brazil. Prices are pretty reasonable.
  13. I got the following discover log on my Tin Cup trackable "Nice trackable. Found on the Tincup website. Thanks for sharing. Feel free to delete if desired." I just went to look for the log on my TB page and it seems it's been deleted. I didn't do it..
  14. I tested my own advice, and yes - mygeocachingprofile.com can be used to prove Lab Caches for a Busy Day challenge. My busiest day was 3/14/2015. I had 8 different cache types that day. For testing purposes, I just went into mygeocachingprofile.com and added a Lab Cache for 3/14/2015, then re-uploaded My Finds, and now it shows my busiest day was 9 caches types (see image below). Note: After adding or removing Lab Caches on the "Build My Profile" page of mygeocachingprofile.com, it is necessary to re-upload the My Finds PQ in the "Upload My Find Pocket Query" page. Yes, mygeocachingprofile.com shows lab caches, but like you said you have to manually enter those. It's not pulling the date or amount from geocaching.com. Could easily be faked.
  15. I agree with niraD. Stick with containers that are a size small or larger and Difficulty/Terrain ratings of 2/2 or less, just until you get the hang of it. I also always like to think "where would I hide the cache here?". You start to notice patterns once you've found a few dozen caches. Good luck!
  16. The trackable codes are VERY small on the Tin Cups. Are does what is written in sharpie match the code that is physically engraved on the Tin Cup? You might have to get out a magnifying glass lol The other thing that might of happened is the cacher that activated it misread/mistyped the trackable code when they activated it. I would email or message the trackable owner and ask about it.

    APE Cache

So jealous! I'm hoping to go next April.
  18. How can you have a rule for how many times a DNFed is logged before you post a NM? Some caches just give people fits. And if you do create such a rule, do you count the total number of DNF's or the days on which a DNF gets posted? In other words if there are three cachers who all log a DNF on the same date, does that equal three DNF's posted by cachers of similar find counts and experience levels who were caching on their own?And what about people who search for a cache multiple times before finally finding it? My record so far is 6 DNFs on a single cache (before finally finding it on my 7th attempt). For the purposes of "warranting" a NM, do my attempts count as 1 DNF or as 6? If we insist that a DNF no longer means merely "did not find", and that it now means "did not find" plus a fraction of a NM/NA, then it will discourage people from logging DNFs. People are already discouraged from posting DNFs. There is nothing wrong with posting a DNF. It simply means you did not find the cache. Agree with niraD.
  19. I just apologized to the user, and she may've misunderstood me and/or vice-versa. It wasn't a question about their cache, it was a cache they found, thought she could answer my question but didn't. Since she keeps tabs on me and what I post, she's already seen this and explained that she thinks I talk about her behind her back and that I "cheat." Sounds like she's upset with college students in general since she refused to tell me where she went to college. Although, if she doesn't want people to know that information she could say "I don't share where I went to college with Geocachers." I explicitly responded to you and said that where I went to college is none of your business.
  20. How can you have a rule for how many times a DNFed is logged before you post a NM? Some caches just give people fits. I was going through GSAK trying to find a couple of examples. I found one that had three recent DNFs so the CO stopped out and it is right where it is supposed to be. It is a D4 for a reason ( http://coord.info/GC2JN5K ). I'd be pretty confident stating that more people probably DNF this one but won't admit it. I found another interesting multi cache example in my stats. It had three recent DNFs and then one of the cachers that had a DNF came back out 4 months later and found it. Since then another cacher has put a NM on it. ( http://coord.info/GCKFAD ). That multi has a bit of a different story. The person that found it after the 3 recent DNFs is actually Pond Bird. From what I can tell he found waypoint 1 before and then wasn't able to find wp2. Now it sounds like people can't find waypoint 1. I'm the one that posted the NM because I looked at pictures the CO posted on the cache page showing where wp1 was and I had looked there without seeing anything.
  21. I also collect geocoins. I have some of them displayed in a military challenge coin style display case. These can be found online (I got mine on Amazon). I also have some displayed, along with some pathtags, in a homemade display that my boyfriend made for me out of a block of wood. Personally, I activate all the geocoins in my collections. I do occasionally bring them to events for other geocachers to discover. You don't have to activate them though.
  22. So why did your account get locked by Geocaching HQ then if it wasn't true??
  23. If these things are alledged/assumed, why mention it here? Well it actually did happen. So I guess it's not alledged. But this may be a reason why the reviewer is not responding to his Needs Archived log. Just like the boy who cried wolf.
  24. Pond Bird does not have a good reputation in our community. It is alleged that he created multiple sock puppet accounts in order to post Needs Archived logs on events that had only been over for a week and on caches that only had 1 DNF. So I assume the reviewer takes everything he says with a grain of salt
  25. You don't state whether you've actually searched for the cache in question or not. That may come into play in deciding to Disable a Listing or not. One of them I searched for, and it's no where to be found. The other one was a cache that everyone says is gone but it hadn't been replaced by the owner so I posted an NA. I've seen people post NA logs and sometimes reviewers take action right away, and sometimes they wait a few days. The Reviewer for your area, Spaience Trek, responded to your question, with what in my opinion was a thorough answer. He is not required to take any action right away. Also, as I'm sure people forget, reviewers are volunteers. They have lives and families and jobs. The reviewers can't spend all day every day reviewing caching and responding to Needs Archived logs.
