  1. I've been to quite a few events where raffles tickets are purchased. This money has then gone to recoup the cost of the venue or the cost of the raffle items and the rest was donated to a local charity.
  2. It depends on the location. If it is inside a restaurant or other business then yes you should contact the owner/manager for permission. If you are just having it outside at a park for instance you might not need permission, although if you plan on using a large pavilion at a park they do usually require to reserve and pay for the use of those. Like I said it really depends on the location.
  3. Letterbox hybrid caches often have a puzzle like element to them. Others do not. The most important part is indeed the stamp. But these tend to go missing over time
  4. That information is secret. And if they told you, then they'd have to...well, you know... There is no secret insider list. He just thinks there is because he doesn't get the Geocaching.com emails and newsletters, etc. So he thinks he is missing out and that other people know in advance.
  5. So the reviewer may "judge" that the missing cache could still be replaced by an owner who refuses to log in? ....Usually, the first step is to post an NM, then follow that up with an NA if the CO doesn't address the NM after a month or two. FYI - The "Last Visit" date in a cacher's profile is the last time they logged into the website, not the last time they checked their email or the last time they used the Geocaching app. There were two caches recently that had NM logs (one of them I logged). They both received NA logs from me, one of them didn't get disabled. Hoping the reviewer judged that the missing cache would be replaced by an owner who hasnt maintained their cache. Or the reviewer may feel the NA is not justified yet. What are the two caches you are talking about? I agree with this statement. The reviewer may be remembering past experiences of Needs Arcchived logs posted by someone that weren't legitimate.
  6. I've never "safely removed" my Oregon 600 or Colorado 300 before that. I load the GPS with GSAK and don't disconnect right away as I'm doing other stuff most of the time. But yes, checking that caches are loaded is something you'd better do before you get to a cache location Recent Garmins show caches closer than (I think) 150 Km but you can "search near..." or scroll on the map if you want to see them when you're further away. You couldn't be more wrong. The days PQ's were emailed are long gone. You just get an email your PQ is ready for download. My apologies it's not an attachment. But I click directly in the email and it downloads. Or you can download then from the Pocket Queries Rwady for Download section of the PQ part of the website.
  7. If you create a PQ and have it run at least once a week it will be emailed to you as an attachment and you can download it from that email and put it on your GPS. Maybe this link will be helpful: http://support.Groundspeak.com//index.php?pg=kb.page&id=118
  8. To my knowledge no such challenge exists in our area That would likely have not been verifiable, and our reviewer wouldn't have published it. I agree
  9. Ah do believe we've been trolled. Quite successfully, from the looks of it. I wondered this when he started posting here a few weeks ago but his posts about this topic are kind of weirdly persistent for a garden variety troll. I don't want to say anything slanderous, be he does believe everything he posts. You're not being trolled. Its a not seeing the forest for the trees situation. It's true. I've met him. He believes everything he says on here. Not being trolled
  10. How about get a list of caches, or write down the names and comments then when you get home manually log them into the site. The function to save logs for later was a capability of the previous "paid app" There are still a lot of features that were in the paid app that aren't in the new official Geocaching app.
  11. This one, maybe: https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC6KBNP_i-scream-you-scream-we-all-scream-for-ice-cream What about that listing makes you think you would get a souvenir? I think it was just because there was a souvenir on August 17 one year (and close to that date in other recent years) and he was confused about this event being in July rather than August. Massive confusion. SO that is my event. I have NO KNOWLEDGE of any souvenirs for this summer other than my thoughts that there will probably be on for International Geocaching Day. No where on the cache page do I say that attendees will earn a souvenir, I have no idea why Pond Bird assumed that. I just wanted to have an Ice Cream event and just happened to pick July 17th which is a random date. For some reason he thinks I know everything about upcoming souvenirs or something... You knew about "hello" and "goodbye" ahead of time, and you knew about the WWFM events (this year and last) before many others did. I was told you were also on a geocaching podcast with people who organize the consent given to hold WWFM events and give out supplies. I knew about the Goodbye 2015 and Hello 2016 at the same time everyone else did. We got an email from Geocaching.com about it. The WWFM events have been happening for 13 years. Hence this year was WWFM XIII. So I didn't know about it before anyone else, it happens every year in June. The WWFM event idea was created by Team Podcacher of the Podcacher podcast (podcacher.com). I didn't know about it until 2015. You don't need consent to host a WWFM event. I did not get any supplies from anyone. I found out the date for this years WWFM events at the same time that many others did as it was announced months ago on the Podcacher podcast. And yes I have been a guest on some podcasts before but never Podcacher. So all of those statements are incorrect. Maybe you should double check your sources and not believe everything you hear
  12. Maybe you should post a needs archived for that. That could really mess up your cache planning. No if the cache is still there and has no real physical issues, and has an active CO, a NA log is unnecessary. I know, and hopefully others will know, the park isn't in Newark but west of it so if they use the GPS coords they will be able to find the cache despite the misleading info. The point of this thread was to share thoughts about Geographically incorrect data on cache page. Actually, in this recent case, CO changing "in" to "less than 1 mile west of" would be Correct, but he is not required to have 100% geographically accurate data on the cache page. On a side note, Obviously cache pages don't require 100% accurate data. I've seen cache pages say "easy cache n dash" and yet the cache is difficult to find. If anyone has problem finding the place even after using the coords, their best bet would be to read the description anyways. So I wish them all good luck and hope they find the cache(s). You haven't really demonstrated why that information is misleading, or why it matters. The park it's in has a Newark mailing addresses. Geocache owners are not required to list the geographic information you are demanding. This is a GPS-based game. It IS a GPS-based game. I know COs are not required to be 100% as stated previously. I get frustrated when a cache says its a "Cache n dash" and it is not. I have even put in my DNF its not a cache n dash. And that has nothing to do with geographical data which is the topic for this thread. So now you're off topic.

So it wasn't a cache and dash for you obviously.. Doesn't mean it isn't a "cache and dash" for other people. And that is a very broad phrase. It could mean multiple different things to different people.

    APE Cache

Found one that went for over 1,000 dollars. Thats quite a lot of money don't see one for less but I'll keep looking later. $1000 for a trip to Brazil is reasonable. When I did some calculations it would have been about $2600 I think for two people. The lodging is very cheap there at the park. And when you consider all the things you would be doing for the trip that this travel agent has it's very reasonable in comparison to a similar trip somewhere else that far away. To my generation, thats a lot of money for something only 1 week for something so far away. Going to Brazil would be nearly the same price as a semester at college. Yes for someone in college without a professional job that is a lot of money. But I'm saying in comparison to vacations in other countries this trip is much less. A trip to say the Caribbean for a week would cost probably 3x as much. The lodging costs in Brazil are around $15 per night at the park which is practically nothing. It is certainly cheaper than some vacations I've taken.
  16. The best thing to do for that person is log an NA saying "the cache appears to be gone, the owner isn't maintaning it...people are logging this as found although they didn't actually find the cache, and its time to get this one off the list so somebody else can hide a cache here that actually will maintain it and monitor the logs so people aren't logging fradulent finds." That is DEFINITELY NOT the case for a NA log. You have no idea what the state of the cache is. Maybe the CO is aware that the cache is missing and just hasn't had the chance to replace it? There is definitely no way anyone should post a Needs Archived log for this. It is up to the CO whether or not they decide to delete a log such as this. Maybe they gave specific permission to this person to log it as a find. Needs Archived logs should be used wisely and not put on caches just for logs such as this.
  17. Different development teams on different platforms. The level of difficulty in implementing any given feature will vary depending on the platform. Should the iOS developers' contributions be held back from the users simply because another team is taking a bit longer? What The A-Team said. And also because even if our dev teams submitted the apps to Android and Apple at the same time, it's very unlikely that they would be approved and made available in the stores at the same time. The review process can vary wildly between Apple and Android. I don't really know what it takes to develop an app for either market. Thanks for clarifying
  18. This would be the reason most cachers carry a GPS device. +1
  19. The mailing address for the park is Newark. What is the issue here? Are you finding geocaches with a GPS or some sort of mapbook? Finding geocaches with a GPS. But since it's not in Newark, Newark offices won't have information or police coverage of the park. How do you let the police know where you are going to be if the cache page doesn't list a town, village, hamlet, etc? Usually going to parks I haven't had problems, but going to cities I have but police are there making sure people are safe. Police have the job of protecting citizens and visitors of the area. In the worst case scenerio, call 911. But only 911 if it's an emergency. We all know when to call 911... The address for the park is Newark. So technically the CO saying its in a park in Newark is correct
  20. Does it really matter? I don't understand what the big deal is
  21. It's unlikely that there will be anything special happening on August 17th, since that's just a random Wednesday. However, International Geocaching Day is held on the 3rd Saturday of August, which this year falls on August 20th. There has been a souvenir for International Geocaching Day every year since it was started in 2011, so I'd say it's safe to assume there will be one this year too. ^Yes to this. International Geocaching Day will be on a Saturday not a Wednesday
  22. It is working now. But originally it was a PQ with between 300-400 caches (so it wasn't over the limit) and the specific PQ was caches less than 30 miles from home (which is where I am). Originally I was just copy and pasting the GPX file from the PQ zip folder directly into the folder on the GPS. But it's working now. Idk what changed
  23. I just put a PQ on my Garmin eTrex 30x. When I booted it up it said it had no geocaches on it. I plugged it back into my computer to check and in the GPX Directory on the GPS it still had the PQ listed there. Anyone know how to fix this? Can I do a reset somehow? I've only had this unit for 7 months.
