  1. A bit of a crappy image but here is a Montana 650, Oregon 450, and a Magellan GC all displaying the "find a cache" page. To answer your question.....its both.
  2. I didn't see this mentioned here but, if you hold your finger on the top left and power up it gives you the option to clear all user data. That's as to be expected as all their touch screen models act that way. I found that if you hold the bottom left of the screen during power up, it will interrupt the boot process and throw you to the dashboard almost instantly, which lets you navigate the dash where you could possibly delete a bad route or waypoint etc if it is keeping the unit from booting up properly. It seems you can do almost anything you want until you hit the return arrow when it takes you back to the boot up screen where it finishes its boot sequence.
  3. Try going into the Garmin/GPX/ folder and deleting any routes there including the current.gpx file inside the Garmin/GPX/Current/
  4. The cheapest paperless unit is probably the Magellan GC, although it seems they may have been discontinued as many stores such as Target and BestBuy were blowing them out for under $100 a month or so ago.
  5. I know this isn't specifically what you asked, but as of the last update for the official geocaching app on the iPhone, the notes are accessable directly from the app. Of course this doesn't help if you dont have an iphone, or the app or cell service. Just throwing it out there for those that weren't aware.
  6. Rename it to GUPDATE.GCD and put it in the /Garmin/ folder and reboot.
  7. You know you want to upgrade Allan, just admit it and stop pretending like your gps isnt working right. A hard reset on the HCx is done by holding page and holding in the click stick while turning it on. Its worth a try....... but the Montana is looking like a pretty nice upgrade.

  9. Yes it does, but so does the Oregon and the Colorado. You can see this by disabling all maps in the setup and then searching for the same poi's, you will get the same list even with no active maps.
  10. Actually this cache is located right at the bottom of 1001 steps, but it is definitely not new. Is that not the one you found?
  11. Every visitor to one of my EC's gets an "Thanks for visiting!" reply from me at minimum, unless of course they have checked the "hide email address" box, in which case my reply ends up in the great void somewhere.
  12. Here is the official release of 1.7 http://support.magellangps.com/support/index.php?_m=downloads&_a=viewdownload&downloaditemid=265&nav=0,18,24,62
  13. Looks pretty cool. Its a bit far for me to drive, but not totally out of the question. Once I get my passport I hope to be visiting lots of EC's in WA state. My terrain 3 EC has been published for almost 2 months with no visit yet. I think the comment by KK&M pretty much sums it up, if its not a 5 minute find, dont expect many visits.
  14. Not buying it. The original link to ver 1.6 is http://support.magellangps.com/support/index.php?dload=Download&_m=downloads&_a=downloadfile&downloaditemid=203 Changing the id to any thing other than 203 will get you a file, but none of them are 1.7 How about you supply a link to ver 1.7 that starts with http://support.magellangps.com/
  15. It sure is...... The Great Confuzzled Rush definitely not to be missed!
  16. Or its a puzzle/multi and the posted start coords are far from that location.
  17. I guess I typed that in haste. What I meant to say that an EC is more likely to get a favourite point from me than any other type of cache, solely based on the effort that went into creating it. Of course any exceptionally creative traditional, etc will also receive one. In saying that, of the 52 fave points I have to award, I have only given out 18 (6 were for EC's) I do believe that if looking for highly "favourited" EC's within their own cache type will still show a general indicator of quality, whether it be for the lesson, research, cache page, or site itself. I think the favourite system just needs a bit more time to "normalize"' before we can determine the trends. Of course there are flaws to using the favourite system, as you have stated, they can be awarded for any number of reasons. One may fave any cache that they FTF, but that doesn't reflect anything if its just a lame micro under a lamp skirt in a parking lot. An exceptional cache (EC or other type) may have a low fave score just because of very few visits, due to remoteness etc. I think a better indicator is faves/visits. That's still a tough one when the cache has under ~25 visits, but if you see a cache that has 8 visits and 8 favourite points, that has got to mean something, no matter how they points were awarded. Should I be upset that one of my EC's that I worked the hardest on researching has had 61 visits and not a single fave point? I am not. I enjoyed doing the research and learning something myself, whether others find it worthy of a fave or not is up to them. I just hope that at least one or two people said "I didn't know that".
  18. I will typically award a favourite (<- ya I am Canadian) point to any EC I visit, as I can appreciate the effort that went into creating it. If its a mundane or oft repeated EC I may not give a fave. I do not look for high favoured EC's though as I like to visit any EC in the area I am caching regardless of its fave score.
  19. I love the aspect of achievements. The original masters program is one of the reasons I am getting my passport. Without leaving my country or making an extremely long road trip, I can never attain the platinum level (the 5 states/countries part). Will my life change when I become a platinum master? No not at all, but I will feel a sense of accomplishment. I look forward to the new levels even though I have a long way to go till I hit the first level. I am also proud of my gamerscore on xbox live. Does it matter that collected 20 Vault-tec bobbleheads in Fallout 3? It matters to me that's why I replayed the game to make sure I got them all. I am not sure why there is so much angst towards new levels. If its something that you like, then strive for it. If you couldn't care at all for it, then ignore them.
  20. Didn't see this posted yet so... http://www8.garmin.c...ils.jsp?id=3887 Change History Changes made from version 3.60 to 3.70: Increased the maximum number of supported JNX files to 250 from 200 Fixed shutdown that sometimes occurred while scrolling through the list of background images
  21. I don't have rest areas listed under auto services on my unit, are you using an Oregon? I am running software 4.40 and firmware 4.52 on my Oregon 450. I don't know if an update would make a difference, even so, I do not think there are any non beta updates. It's there for me. Oregon 450 w/ CN NT NA 2011.40 and TopoCan v4, I am not sure which map set it is pulling the POI's from though (even with all maps disabled, I can still search POI's). In fact I have a "Rest Area or Tourist Inf" and a "Rest Area" sub menu.
  22. Changelog. 23. I'm with dfx on this one. Its the same as all the newer Garmins, 5000 caches.
  24. Here is one around here. Call me a spoil sport, but I think liars caches are lame.
  25. Post a "Retrieved from...." log on the trackable page, that will put it back into your inventory.
