  1. Go here ---> http://www.geocachin...fieldnotes.aspx and click upload field notes, point it the the geocache_visits.txt file in the /Garmin/ folder of the gps. You should be able to figure the rest out from there.
  2. Leave it on spanner mode, and try a new usb cable. My friends 450 did the exact same thing all the time, and that is all I had to do to fix it for him.
  3. I disagree with this and do the exact opposite. I ONLY load gpx files to the card. Occasionally (with all paperless garmins) you can have a situation where the gps shows no geocaches loaded, this requires a removal of the offending gpx files and a clean reboot with none loaded to clear the internal database. At least this way if you are caught in the field with this situation, you have a good chance of fixing it without the need for a computer. Remove card, reboot. Turn off, insert card, reboot. Fixed. If you have a corrupt gpx file that is causing a startup hang, you also have the ability to fix this much easier than if it is the core memory as well.
  4. Dont use basecamp or mapsource to send the caches to the gps. Just drag and drop your gpx file(s) into the Garmin/gpx/ folder of the device or sd card. Or am i misunderstanding you, you cant see the descriptions on your gps or in basecamp?
  5. Yes just leave it in spanner mode. It will just ask if you want mass storage or to continue as normal, just press normal. That category just tells it how to respond to external hardware that can be used to tie into the gps.
  6. 2011.31 has been out for awhile, no 2011.40 yet though.
  7. Put your gpx file in the Garmin/Gpx/ folder of the nuvi 500
  8. Just make sure your projection is using what the CO intended as the difference between "True" and "Mag" is almost 3 km at that point.
  9. I am not sure why you would want to have all your found caches displayed on the map, but at any rate.... Unless I mis-understand what you mean by this, it seems like you are adding the caches one at a time using the "send to gps" button As a premium member, you should be making use of the pocket queries for loading up all your caches, as there is a limit of 200 gpx files, and every time you click "send to gps" you are putting a single gpx file on there. When you exceed the allowed amount, strange things can happen. A pocket query can yield up to 1000 caches in a single gpx file. You can easily reload them all up with a "My finds Query" if you insist on keeping them in the unit.
  10. Perhaps the garmin person misunderstood you. They have made a change to the "Geocaching" icon in the menu, going from the Groundspeak logo/signal the frog, to a more generic treasure chest icon, but this is only in the menus.
  11. I liked your cheesy hint before. I like what you did with this one, although it wasn't till I found it that I clued in. This time I used this ski hill KML http://www.firsttrac...oads/skimap.kml and quickly found.... http://coord.info/GC14APT Murray Ridge Hang-Out: MaliBooBoo's Lookout Series. I think you are the first to use their own cache....sneaky. Once again I have no image to post up, so 7rxc, feel free to post up yours or any one else who has one ready.
  12. Actually Moun10bike has added the entire PCT to the NWTrails mapset even though a large section of it is outside the maps coverage area.
  13. Its "The Snakes Head" http://coord.info/GCWD93 I was going to refrain from answering this one as I saw the image before your minor edit which had the spoiler on it of the street name. A quick google with a few edits..... as I eliminate a city..... "4 st nw" canada -calgary -medicine -slave gives you Sundre AB in the first hit, gravy from there. I dont have an image to post at the moment... so anyone else feel free to toss a new one up
  14. Having said that, is their a use for this device, for anyone? Are you kidding??? this is the perfect device for a stalker... easily hideable on someones car to keep track of them at all times.
  15. Use twitter and follow the companies you are interested in. Here are a few additional ones worth following @GPSFix for gps news @gpstracklog for gps news @allory_d for garmin firmware update news @gogeocaching geocaching.com's official twitter page @GPSCity deals on gps units
  16. You got it, no need to wait for confirmation if there is no doubt.
  17. Sorry my GE 6 Beta keeps crashing with the geocache viewer active, so here is a screenshot from Groundspeak maps.
  18. http://www.geocachin...aspx?wp=GC1Z89R Quaqtaq Airport Reused the same .KMZ that I used yesterday to find the Stewart cache ...although with Malibooboo's cheesy hint it wasnt really needed.
  19. Thanks NP, I found the previous thread where a similar thing was mentioned, also staying at Ver 2.9 from the summer time.
  20. I just connected up and was offered no GPS Chipset updates for my Colorado 400t. Suspect that's an earlier fix that you missed earlier? Spoke too soon! There it is. My bad I have just ran webupdater 4 times, and I get no offering of a Chipset update, just the 3 text updates that I always decline for Greek, Slovakian and Slovenian. What version does it show for you, I am currently at GPS software version 2.90, although in the past I do recall someone else mentioning a similar update and it took me many tries with webupdater for it to show up.
  21. Well after repeated outdoors testing, here are my results. Oregon 450 detects chirp reliably up to 16 meters, will receive it up to as far as 18 meters but often reports "Transfer Failed" beyond 16m. Colorado 300 detects chirp reliably up to 11 meters but will receive as far as 13 meters. Does not report a failure, but the data is often corrupt beyond 11m.
  22. Works great on CO300 and OR450....thanks!!
