  1. TomTom Navigator v2 or v3 are both excellent... nothing much between them to be honest. For In-Car SatNav you'll be wanting some kind of "mount" for the PDA. My recommendation would be those made by 'Brodit' of Sweden, such as this one if you intend to use the cig lighter for power or this one for hardwiring if you're handy with car electrics, or this one also has a built in speaker and amp. These are the "Rolls-Royce" of PDA mounts without any doubt!... Also the Brodit "ProClip" will allow you to fix the mount to your dash without damaging anything or drilling any holes, etc. Check out the Brodit Website for a ProClip to fit your car. The UK supplier is Nemesis. Their website is crap, but just phone them and they'll sort you out pronto... I've no affiliation with either, just a satisfied customer. Stay clear of the "sucker" type windscreen mounts which have a habit of unsuckering themselves and trashing your PDA in the car footwell ! Oh, and thanks for the heads up on the MemoryMap verion update Pharisee... I was still on v4.2.1 Steve
  2. Bluetooth GPS and Tom-Tom Navigator are my recommendation. See Pocket GPS World for more info and reviews than you can shake a stick at ! I have personally been using the Emtac Bluetooth GPS for the last couple of years with my Ipaq 3870, both for in-car nav (using Tom-Tom) and for caching (using Memory-Map)... works great! Steve
  3. See here for a suitable cable... Steve
  4. Create an account and login is the important bit to get your found caches to show with a different icon. To change the icon you'd have to edit the file manually, or manually change them after importing into MM. The laster version of MM (2004) is MUCH slower when choosing "properties". I have the whole of the UK (without descriptions) imported and it takes about 7 seconds... Same spec PC as yours. With the older versions is was almost instant. Steve
  5. Just rename the file to take the .txt off the end !!!
  6. Perhaps I've misunderstood or lost the plot of this thread... but UK MM overlays have been available for download from here for as long as I can remember... certainly for well over a year. Just submit a blank search and you'll get the whole of the UK, or configure an advanced search to download a subset... You can download in any of the following formats: EasyGPS Mapsource (v3 or v4) Autoroute MemoryMap (with or without descriptions) OziExplorer Waypoint+ TomTom HTML Also, if you create an account on the site and login, when you download your chosen MM overlay it will mark your found caches with a different symbol (blue dot) to those you haven't found (flag). Regards... Steve
  7. The Waterlily Lake Loop "Cache Camera" photos are now online here I've already put names to the ones I knew and also guessed a few, so feel free to fill in the blanks or correct any that I've got wrong ! Steve
  8. Here's our cachemobile... 4.0L V8 Landy Disco. Pros: Very confortable, go almost anywhere (even places the infamous Blitzmobile wouldn't dare), never needs cleaning (hey, it's a Landrover, they're supposed to look dirty!), 7 seater so it's good for team caching, doesn't rust (aluminium body), AirCon, 4WD, etc... Cons: MPG !!! Steve
  9. Steve, I looked at these but I don't think they do one that will take the iPAQ with the gps sleeve. Richard (Mr Keeper) Dunno Richard, but the 3600 is HUGE and they now make a 'deep' version so it may be worth checking...
  10. Richard... Check these out... They're great. My 3870 has been whacked against trees, in a river, etc, and is still in 'as new' condition. Personally I use the 'Armor 2600' with a bluetooth GPS... Works great. Steve
  11. Could well be a radio antenna. There's a similar huge "crop circle" at N51 16.422 - W0 38.870 which is indeed a VHF antenna for air traffic. Here's a photo from Multimap. Steve
  12. No.5 is AuntieMary No.6 is Steve of Team Paradise Steve
  13. Robert Dyas has them at £29.99 too, but I believe they only have stores on the south...
  14. Most of the cachers I know personally (a dozen or so) along with ourselves also hate "McTat" as we call it. I've actually seen a few older caches with ONLY McTat left in them. Several of the cachers I know have young children that they take along, including ourselves, and I can tell you for a fact then even the kids tend to avoid trading the McTat !!!... It's a shame folks can't be slightly more inventive when trading. It's not that difficult and doesn't have to cost a fortune... Steve

  19. Many thanks for all the congrats folks ! As is traditional... Highs and Lows, etc. Most engoyable: 'Quantum Leap Part 1', closely followed by 'Up and Down Again' and the 'HCC Night Cache'. Least enjoyable: 'Rookery'... nuff said. Hardest: 'Hill, Hill, Hill'... It just took forever! Most hazardous: 'Byway of Progress', Fell face first in the mud!... 'Dips', Nearly killed myself getting down again... and 'Hey Dude Where’s My Car (Keys)', chased by a herd of young bulls. Best view: 'Battle of Roundway Down' and 'Beacon Book Box' Most unusual location: 'Omallys' Hat-Trick part 1: The Sandboils' Steve. If you can see the 'light at the end of the tunnel', it's usually a train coming !
