  1. Thanks so much for the reply, but even trying these instructions didn't power up the unit. I want to cry. It was so cool when it worked and now it's dead. WaffleStomper
  2. My Magellan Meridian Platinum won't power up. It's two months old and fresh batteries haven't helped. Any suggestions other than sending back to Magellan? WaffleStomper
  3. Sorry, I'm still too new and didn't even get my GPSr until a couple of days ago. I'd love to go to the next outing you folks have in the Northern Virginia area. I'll keep watching. And reading my manual to figure out how this MeriPlat thingamabob works. Guess I might as well add "AA batteries" as a new line item to the household budget too. 4. I'm new to this sport and I'm wondering what PocketPC PDA folks are using out there when they geocache. I use an old Casio Cassiopeia E-115 which runs PocketPC OS, for my day-to-day stuff. Now that I'm going to start geocaching (just waiting for the new GPS to come in), I'm looking at ways to incorporate my PDA into this as well. I've seen the software to download the coordinates to the PDA, so I just thought I'd take a little poll and find out what you folks use. 5. Wow, thanks for the great info on units. I've done some more online research/shopping and I'm leaning towards the Magellan Meridian Platinum. Thanks again for the opinions and helpful, timely information for this newbie! Waffle Stomper "Stomping across the planet, one waffle at a time."
  6. Greetings! I'm new, and I need your opinions and tips on what GPS to buy that fulfills the following: -around the $300.00 range (USD) -able to hook up to my PC which uses Win XP -at least semi-waterproof -compass that works when I stand still In addition to hiking, I like to fish and canoe and it'd be nice to have an all-around unit that I could use on these varied trips. Also, I've got the following questions: -How usable and handy are the units that come with barometer and altimeter functions? Are those features worth the extra cost in your opinion? -Do most units have "reverse tracking" so that I can reverse my path and return home easily? -Is a screen that displays color a handy thing or not worth the extra cost in your opinion? Thanks in advance for helping out a newbie! Waffle Stomper
