  1. I too have been to sliding rock but it was back in 1997/8 before geocaching. The slide is fun but as was stated...the water is cold. To bad they don't make swim suits or jeans with thick padding. I do remember having a sore one when it was over. WA Red Bear Spokane WA
  2. I am heading over to Vancouver this Friday (5/6/05) for a one day trip with Booger Bear to look at a college she wants to attend. I am not going to have a lot of time to "search" for caches but I would like to hit a few fast ones along the way. I have searched for some but I would like to get some advise from those who have found them. We will be traveling I-84 through the gorge. What caches are in the rest areas or right off the Interstate so we won't waste time. I was thinking of maybe traveling the Washington side since we've never done that. What are the caches on that side as well. We will be spending a few hours in Vancouver so I am looking for caches to do there too. Thanks for your help in narrowing my search. WARedBear
  3. So are there still some of these coins available? I am from Florida and would love to have a geocoin from there.
  4. This is probably to late but I would like 2 coins if they are available. Thanks
  5. We had a murder case here in Spokane, WA a few years ago where the police suspected the father of murdering his son. They installed a GPS tracking device on his car and then turned up the heat. The suspect returned to where the body was and moved it to another location. The police were able to track his where abouts and find the body. Soooo....yes...it can be used...against you.
  6. I'm sorry but this is just too funny. Let me get this straight...you had a "Take My Wife Please" TB...the tag was removed but the TB was returned...right? So they took the tag and returned your wife?
  7. Yes and here it is. Thanks for asking Thanks for posting the TB list. I have a TB that is coming home and it is stuck in Colorado. A few cachers have visited the cache but my bug never moved. I got scared when I read this post. I checked the list and mine is not listed....hopefully it is okay and just waiting to hitch a ride home.
  8. Because my mother was born in RI...which makes me half a Rhode Islander.
  9. Welcome to the joys of geocaching. I went after a cache a few weeks ago that my GPS said was "here" on a little knoll in a small park. My daughter and I looked around for the micro for awhile with no luck. I walk off, turned the GPS back on and did another GOTO that took me 60' from where the first GOTO zeroed out at. We searched again with no luck so I walked off again and did another GOTO. This one took me about 50' from the other two locations. I looked at this location for awhile and then threw in the towel. The skies were overcast so I blamed the wierd readings on that. Another cacher found the cache a few days later so I knew it was there. We found other caches that day but we also had three DNF. Those are the joyes and the heartbreaks of geocaching. Check your GPSr set-up (as stated), challk it up to geocaching experience and go for another one . Somedays you win and somedays you loose.
  10. This is usually done with a fence post that is cemented in the ground.
  11. You always hear those two dreaded words come from your wifes lips...."NOT AGAIN"!
  12. I read that post and thought the same thing....FTF tampons???? double take.... Okay..I see and understand. I also agree that a picture says 1000 words. Post a picture of that FTF...prize.
  13. "Welcome to the club. Hiding a cache is just as much fun as finding one!" I think hiding one is a lot harder. At least the way I do them. My personal opinion...I don't like cache descriptions that tell me where the cache is located... "When I was looking for a place to hide the cache. I SAW a few trees that were a little bent out of shape. There ARE a few places that I could have HIDDEN the cache but I did manage to find a good place I think." This includes the HINT. A hint should be just that...a hint...not a big red X on the cache location....again...this is my personal opinion. Good luck with your cache and thanks for putting one more out there for the hords to locate...keep the sport alive...hide a cache.
  14. Okay, I think I have it now. Thanks for the quick help. I am trying to get this approved today for a geocaching class tomorrow so I am scrambling to get it done. For some reason the text went to "Times Roman" even though that is nowhere in the listing. I even told the font to goto Arial but nogo...fine...it is posted and ready for approval. Now to wait.
  15. No that didn't work. Everything went back to red. Here is the whole text line... <b><font FACE="Arial"> </font><font FACE="Arial" COLOR="#ff0000"> <p align="center">THIS CACHE WILL BE CLOSED 4/22/05 FROM 12:00 UNTIL 3:00 FOR OUR FIELD TRIP.</font></b> </font><font FACE="Arial" COLOR="#000000"> </o:p> The text before this is black Arial and font 10. After this it is black Arial and font 8.
  16. Okay...quick search of the net and I found it to be "000000" = Black I added that line but now my remaining text was hit by a Voodoo head shrinking doctor. Why did my text go from a font 10 to a 8?
  17. Not a newbie but I feel like I should post my question here. I am posting a cache and making some last minute changes to the cache page. For some reason my color text did not transfer over so I am having to color it by hand. I was able to get a sentence of text colored red with this command. </font><font FACE="Arial" COLOR="#ff0000"> but now everything below that is RED. What color command do I need to insert to change the text color back to black? I am at work and don't have access to my HTML book. Thanks
  18. I went home last night and used Front Page to create my latest cache and everything worked out fine. The program puts in some extra tags but you can delete them if you want. Thanks for giving me the idea to copy the maze into another program and save it as a jpg file. I copied the Excel sheet into Print Master and then saved it as a jpg file and uploaded that into my Front Page file and everything looks great. I should have it posted by tomorrow. Thanks again for all of your ideas.
  19. The first night cache I did used red stick-on reflectors. No good. Half of them had fallen off their tree or branch. I knew the cacher so I asked her if I could fix the problem. I went in and replaced them with reflective tacks. Lesson learned...make sure your reflectors stick. I did a night time cache in Oklahoma City where the hider, "Darkmoon" put out the reflectors during the fall...no leaves. I was searching for it in the spring...lots of leaves. We spent two nights trying to find all of the reflectors and ended up missing half of them. We did find the cache and picked-up a lot of ticks during the hunt. Turned my daughter off going again. Lesson learned...make sure your reflectors can be seen year round. I am in the process of putting out my first night time cache. The reflectors (30) are in, the cache page written, so all I have to do is make the cache container. That is going to be one of my projects this weekend. I am going to create a second cache that is going to be a continuation of the first one for those that didn't get enough or get scared enough. I have a neat (mean) idea that I am thinking about adding. I picked up a wireless, battery operated motion detector and alarm. I am thinking about painting it black and hiding it at the cache. That should add a little excitment when bells start going off. I am also thinking about breaking into the alarm box and replacing the bell with a light. Nothing like having a spot light shine in your face in the middle of the woods. My opinion on putting out reflectors for the trip out...I tell them to make sure they bring their GPS and to mark the location of their vehicle BEFORE they head out....they will need it to get out. Otherwise it will be a long night in the woods.
  20. What is the best way to import an Excel puzzle into HTML for a cache page? By puzzle I mean I have a 24x24 square made by setting the outside border. Then I have created a maze by turning borders on or off. I need this on my cache page. Any ideas on what to do? Thanks
  21. Yes, I usually use Word and view the source code and copy that into the cache page. But as stated...it has a tendency to freak out sometimes.
  22. What program do you use to create cache pages. I know some of the computer brains use straight HTML. I am not that smart. What other programs do you use? Word? Publisher? Front Page? I just created a detailed cache page in Publisher (first time) and now I can't seem to get it to transfer over to a cache page. Is there a special trick? I have several text boxes, pictures and an Excel puzzle. I need help fast. I have a time limit on getting this page up...by this Friday. Otherwise I will have to go my normal way. HELP!!!!!
  23. It all depends on what type of cache you are wanting to place. You have the cache and dash ones for the quick find that add another smiley face to your count. Then you have the ones that have a story or a history lesson. You can tell that the cacher likes the hobby and wants to add to the community and not just to the numbers. I personnally like those type of caches and all of mine are like that....sort of. I like to incorporate puzzles in my caches. I get a lot of ideas from reading caches listed on the web. Drive around and look for local history. Read web pages on the history of your town and find locations that are interesting and don't already have a cache located there. My favorite one is my Gone But Not Forgotten cache. I was driving out in the woods looking around and found this lone grave. There is a metal plaque on the fence that states "Gone But Not Forgotten". The geocaching wheels started turning and I came up with the idea of a leave only cache, no trading of items. You leave something that reminds you of someone close to you who is gone but not forgotten. Read the post...everyone loves the area, the idea...and the momories. I try to make my caches fun, different, and memorable. Good luck and thanks for trying to make the caching community something better. No, I am not saying there is anything wrong with the cache and dash caches...so there is no need in getting off topic and going there.
  24. First story happened a couple of years ago. We were visiting our daughter in Oklahoma City and we were walking the trails of this park/science/wildlife area. I was explaining to my daughter and son-in-law how we had to be sneaky and careful not to give away what we are doing to muggles. A lady with a stroller walked in from an adjoining trail and I guess over heard my whispers. She passed us, looked back, and asked if we were geocaching. My daughter dropped to the ground laughing. She couldn't believe that a stranger walking by was a cacher. Second story. I was in a small park looking for the first waypoint to a cache. It was right on the edge to the parking lot that had a motor home backed up to the fence. There were several people walking around giving me the "eye" as I walked around this group of bushes and around them again. I finally walked up to the fence behind the motorhome, lifted the fence cap and found the first clue. I walked over to a picnic table and decyphered the clue while muggles continued to give me the "eye". I found what I needed, put the clue back together, looked around and put the clue back in the fence post. Being able to sneak in and out like that while getting the caching job accomplished makes you feel like 007. I always try to hide my caching hunts from any muggles that may be close by. Especially if they are "kids". Too many caches get muggled and I don't want to be the one who gave it away. Walking away and coming back another day is the right thing to do at times. Getting another "find" to increase your numbers is not worth "crashing a wedding" over. IMHO
