  1. Save it to your profile. You will be able to see it, but no one else will. Thanks for that tip. I never realized that the profile pictures don't show up in the gallery.
  2. Yeah, but it keeps you on your toes! Signal's Law You get "Point Man" duty when the spider webs are thick.
  3. The first thing that comes to my mind is the COWW Tipping event. That should go over big. Be prepared to have some fun. I am sure some of the organizers will chime in here. I know a lot of things are still in the planning stages. Check out this list of activities for GWVI. Activities Looking forward to seeing you there. Edited to add link.
  4. Our son just came back from Iraq last last Thursday and we cannot wait to hit the caching trail in a couple of weeks with him. Welcome back and thanks so much for serving.
  5. Do I detect a hint of friction in the Pacific Northwest? That's a pretty serious charge you are leveling. I'd be pretty hesitant to say something like that online unless I had some actual evidence. You have to understand. We all start getting edgy when we start to dry out in the Summer. Let's not over-generalize.....those fractious folks are from the Portland area. Here in Seattle-land, everything is peachy keen. We even had rain over Labor Day weekend. Everything is just fine East of Portland/Vancouver. Out in the Columbia River Gorge we have an abundance of sunshine, lollipops, and rainbows everywhere. Kinda like geocaching chicken soup for the soul.
  6. I guess that I would have to be classified as a Phantom Cacher. Or, to look at it another way, I just happen to be behind in my logging for a couple hundred caches. I understand the need to communicate to a CO when you find or do not find the cache and the condition you found it. Bottom line is pure laziness on my part. I cache as a team with my wife but have my own account. We both sign the physical log. She never fails to log a find on line. Me, not so much. Now those DNF's are hard for me to resist logging. I never fail to log those. For some reason they turn into some of our finest adventures. I have noticed when that when we have replaced logs on our hides, there are a number of logs from people that did not log online. To me it is all good. I just hope that they did not log online because the hide stunk and were just being kind. I prefer to think that is how they enjoy playing the game. I am just satisfied that they found the cache and signed the physical log. Tough to expect much more than that.
  7. I was looking at the logs from our first find and saw oregone's log so I clicked on his profile. This one of my favorite logs that I have read by him. Maybe because of the pure length of the log(s). I won't paste the log in here because it took four separate entries. Here is the link to the cache page. "Fall Mountain" GCKR77
  8. My guess, and this is only a guess, was that the comment was a sarcastic one, as the reservation system for WSP did not have the most intuitive setup the last time I used it. (maybe that has changed) As far as the comment about spots going soon, that sounds like someone doesn't realize that we have the group area reserved and don't have to make reservations in the main campground. (I am guessing this so please don't take it as fact). Therefore I assume the rest of the campground if filling fast, not our part. Andrew, you are correct the comment was a sarcastic one. Making reservations outside of the ones we (WSGA) have reserved is not an intuitive friendly process. My wife was the one who made our reservations outside of the reserved spots. I believe I herd Grrrrr more than once. We (WSGA) has a large block of spaces reserved and paid for including a group camp site. I was waiting for WSGA's next board meeting to update the cache page with pricing and availability and the reservation process of these sights. We may have to come up with some info posted to the event page sooner than that with the interest shown in the campout and how close it is to the event date.
  9. It is. That is likely the issue. I am now confused. Do you think the problem is the firmware or Send to GPS is a premium only option? I am not a premium member but just did a Send to GPS and it worked fine.
  10. I had the same problem yesterday and had to load the latest firmware upgrade to fix the problem on my PN-20. Delorme has a very active forum. Drop in there and see if you can get some insight. Lots of helpful info there.
  11. Seeing your post got me to thinking about my most memorable FTF. What the heck did I write? February 17, 2008 by gonegeofishing 1fairygirl and I have been looking at "The Pinnacles" for a few weeks now. As always so many things in life take priority. Well, finally up comes a little free time. I think we added a bit more distance and a little more elevation to the hike. Parked at the locked gated and hiked to the trailhead. So worth a little extra effort. Had to be extra careful in a couple steep spots where there was some pretty slick ice and snow. Baby steps. This the longest hike we have done since we started geocaching. Very fun and the cache location was a treat to explore. I wish we could have stayed longer but the days are still kinda short in the PNW. Thanks CFM for the rubber legs, tender toes, and a great geocache location. Coordinates were dead on. TNLN TFTH What the heck. I left out the "Woot, Woot. FTF!!!" I am sorry CFM but some caches deserve one. I apologize for leaving it out. Now I will keep wondering what I wrote in the physical log book. Seriously, I have to agree. It is those remote and difficult ones that are the most rewarding. And the most memorable.
  12. Moe&Tracy, WSGA has a new Southwest Washington Chapter and we would love to see you at our events. Sounds like we need to do another meet and greet real soon. We are currently working on a CITO for early may in the Vancouver area or out in the Gorge around Stevenson Carson area. My wife and I are currently hanging out in a hotel in Westport so we can check out the area around Twin Oaks Harbor State Park. WSGA's Summer Campout in August will be hosted by the Southwest Washington Chapter this year and we would love to have you attend. We live out in the Gorge but attend school in Vancouver so we are there all the time. Send me an email and let me know if there is a place to hold a meet and greet close by you that would be a good meeting location. Hopefully not a pizza place. We need to break that streek. Let me know if you folks would like some company geocaching out our way. 1fairygirl and I would love to show you some of our favorite caches. Gonegeofishing WSGA Southwest Washington Chapter Rep.
  13. Scuba, Scuba, Scuba, I have had to endure your impressive string of FTF's for the last two months. Here I am, on my 120 mile round trip to school each day, passing within minutes of those very same caches. For some darn reason they seem to pop up while I am in class. Grrrr!!! I have seen your logs and know that you worked for each one. I really liked your log for this one. GC1MRYD If I was an FTF hound, I would have to say you bite. I am not a hound but do not mind an occasional one. Keep up the FTF's. Cannot begrudge a single one. You earned them. It's fun watching you guys scramble and I am quite impressed and amused. Thanks.
  14. Your efforts shall not go in vain. Us locals shall still find a way to benefit from your hard work. Legally of course. You raised a pretty good question. I drive by Beacon Rock six or seven times a week and have only seen a park service vehicle one time in the last four months. I cannot figure out how they come up with that count. Glad to hear you have been enjoying our breezy winds in the Gorge
  15. Hello msmst25, Welcome to the game and geocaching in the Pacific Northwest. I notice your post referenced in the WSGA forums. Took a quick look where you have cached and noticed a few short hikes around the canals in Longview. Looked like fun. Sorry that we are not more familiar with the area up there. We live about forty miles up the Columbia River Gorge from Vancouver. I am sure someone one will show up here with some more specific caches. The Southwest Washington Chapter of the WSGA is having a meet & greet in Vancouver Pizza Anyone? SW WA Chapter Meet & Greet on the 9th of November. This is very informal. Please feel welcome to come on buy. We love to meet new geocachers.I am sure you will meet many cachers with lots of suggestions on what caches to do. If you ever make it up the Gorge please email us and we would be happy to give you some ideas for short kid friendly hikes.
  16. I have been known to pronounce it geo fish ing, But hey, thats just me.
  17. The problem is not at the local state park level. It is at the state level. We having been working for months with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to place a puzzle cache at one of the fish hatcheries in the Columbia River Gorge. Under no circumstance are there to be physical geocaches placed on U.S. Fish and Wildlife land. The solution was to place the final at an adjacent State Park. After contacting the local state park manager they were very receptive to the idea and even suggested a couple of spots they believe would have little or no impact on the location. That is when we ran into the brick wall. They pushed it up the chain of command and there it has stopped. Even with assistance in communication from U.S. Fish and Wildlife, approval has gone nowhere. This is in no way an excuse for placing a cache on state park land without the proper permission. Unfortunately it is probably the reason it has been done more often than not. We are not giving up. We realize a geocache is probably not very high on their priority list. Just realize you are in for a long drawn out process trying to get permission.
  18. Okay I deleted a couple of the worst logs. It was painful. Never had to do that before. Hopefully if it gets her attention we can make her understand why. Thanks for everyones advice.
  19. Side note: I do not think a cache owner should have the ability to edit a finders logs. I do wish we could delete and image. Sure would make an issue like this easier to deal with.
  20. Leonw 1fairygirl is at work all day so I will respond to your statement. I could not agree more. Especially since I just noticed she just posted more pictures. Grrrr!!! Some are other caches she has done of ours. We have sent a couple of emails but have had no response. Our hides are already compromised. Deleting her logs is not going to help her understand when it is necessary to avoid taking a picture of a cache container. Opening up a dialogue with her hopefully will. We hope that she does not compromise any other hides of anyone elses. The caches are still in place and not muggled. That is something to be thankful for. I have to admit my patience is running thin after seeing the new pictures. This is a new cacher who needs to be educated. Not tarred and feathered. Maybe just shaving cream and feathers.
  21. It sounds like your question about swag was answered. If you are looking for a good place to by ammo cans or other waterproof containers try http://www.alohasurplus.com/. It should be pretty close to where you live. This way you avoid shipping costs. Winters can be pretty tough on containers where we live. Especially in the Columbia River Gorge. An hour east of Portland should place it about 15 minutes from where we live. Hmmm!! So what are you waiting for? Go hide that cache.
  22. As a avid fisherman I have toyed with the idea a number of times. The idea seems really fun but the implementation is another story. Bank fisherman are constantly on the lookout for lures that have been lost by other fisherman. On average these lures cost as much as a locknlock type container. Any decent camo on the lure would take away from the novelty of the hide. Without camo this type cache will get it muggled in no time at all. Growing up in San Diego in the late 70's, wadded up balls of fishing line littering the shores was a nasty problem. So much so that many recycle boxes started showing up in the local bait and tackle stores just for used fishing line. It really did make a difference. I have seen more than one bird miserably tangled up in a ball of fishing line. Hopefully some creative cacher will come up with an idea on how to place a lure cache without effecting the environment or reflecting bad upon geocaching. If so, I would like to find it. Until then a wadded ball of fishing line is a rather poor choice.
  23. I am the other half of 1fairygirl & gonegeofishing. Thanks everyone for all the great advice. We opted for door #1. email sent. Waiting for reply. I did put on my nicey nice hat. Initially "my" response was to delete the log. I am glad I did not. Thanks Knowschad. We tweaked your quote a bit. For some reason this hide has been the most fun to read logs from. Wanted it to stay that way without changing anything. It is a bugger to spot. Even for us. Thanks again.
  24. Clackamas Geocaching Association http://www.clackamasgeo.org/ Try to hook up with these guys. Sure they might smell funny at times but they are a hoot to go geocaching with.
  25. Hello niffs, Welcome. This will be 1fairygirl and my first geowoodstock. We still consider ourselves newbies. Have only been caching a year. We like to to do more hikey type caches which does not always make for high numbers. Not a big priority for us. We have been to a few events and the people have been amazing. If you see us wandering around at the events please say hi. We will be the ones that look like a pair of deer that just got high beamed. Doug and Diana
