  1. I, too, found somewhat the same thing. This was by a rail road track in Junction City, Georgia. My dad and I figured that it was probably dug up becasue of track construction.
  2. Hello all, Lately we've been finding quite a few triangulation stations out and about. I've picked up that for nearly all of them, reference mark 3 has been anywhere from .15-.30 miles away from the central triangulation station disk/marker. But one thing I do not understand is that in the description, the NGS writes, "Height of light above the station ___ meters." Could someone please explain why they say this or what it means? Thanks!
  3. I'm posting this due to a problem I'm having with my GPSr, Garmin E-trex Venture. When I first cut it on, the screen is really light and vague, it's almost hard to read the warning that comes up below the globe. When it changes to the satellite viewing page (that shows which satellites you've connected to), it's okay. But, at times, the screen will just go haywire! Lines will appear from top to bottom, in either small bars, or very thick bars. This is on any menu. And shortly after this happens, the screen will go completely a somewhat blueish-purpeish-blackish color, like when these screens get very hot. Has anyone else ever had this problem? Does anyone know how to correct it, or what I could possibly do to fix it? And, if a nothing else, could someone tell me why it's doing this? Any information is welcome! Thanks! Crafters
  4. Yesterday we went on a day-long benchmark hunt in Junction City, GA. And to start off, this was our first find! Just terrible condition. We went on from there to discover that many of the other markers were missing, and possibly destroyed. We then found this great find (CM1581 Triangulation Station) and managed to locate each reference point. We then went on to look for CM1576 Traverse/Triangulation Station We did locate the station, but this is what we found: Not only was the station broken from the base and sitting on the ground, but it was on the wrong side of the tracks. The location of the reference marker was covered with gravel. Has anyone else ever seen anything like this? Just one sitting on the gound or in worse condition? crafters
  5. There is a benchmark like this about 1/2 mile from my home. But I live in GA. If you'd like, I could take a picture of the disk, marker, and location to give you an idea of what to look for.
  6. Just a little observation, if anyone's noticed, the benchmarking page's logo has a picture of a benchmark with these same dimples.
  7. Hello all, From my recent new-found interest in benchmarks after a little break from being on the hunt I've been exploring markers of all kinds in the areas that we commonly visit. So, I've noticed that certain people like to find certain kinds of markers. Thus striking up the question what is your favorite thing to look for? (Triangulation Stations, Survey Disks, Reference Points, Azimuth Markers, etc.) And post a pic of your favorite find! Standing by crafters Probably my favorite find: This was my first find just .76 miles from my home placed in a rock in a large field. I realized today that it has an azimuth mark to go with it and I think I'll chase for that one tomorrow! Looking foward to the replies!
  8. Hello, I've skimmed these posts in this topic, and didn't see anything about this, but if I'm repeating anything, sorry. 1) Many of the reference markers links's on NGS disks' pages come up with an error that commonly says that the waypoint can not be found. Example 2) I know that this has been discussed, but there needs to be a direct tab link to the Benchmark page from the geocaching.com home page. I think it would go pretty well between the My Cache Page and Discuss Geocaching, give or take a space or two. Other than this I think that everything's fine. It even seems, and I could be mistaken, that you've added some new markers! But I know of quite a few that aren't listed and am hoping to see the updated markers on this page soon!
  9. Thanks! I've realized that we've found one triangulation station, I'll have to go back for the pic. As for the other two, we've never really looked for/found. So I was just asking for a picture of what they might look like so that I'd have a general idea of what to look for... such as in the third picture where it shows that the Azimuth mark is farily deep in the ground. Well, once again thanks!
  10. Well I was looking for pictures personally taken by geocachers/benchmark hunters.
  11. Hello all, I'm curious about a couple of NGS markers. I would like a little info on them if possible, and a picture too, would be helpful! I'm looking for pics/info of: Azimuth Mark Reference Marker Triangulation Station and, possibly an underground marker. Any and all pics/info are welcomed! Thanks for the time! crafters
  12. Well, even though that benchmark's location is pretty obvious nearly every benchmark within about 100 foot of a railroad track here in GA is destroyed due to the constant work and constructions on tracks. The 2nd closest benchmark to us was practically within walking distance, but we suspect that it's now in a pushed-up pile of rubble down in the gulley next to the tracks. This may have been the reason it was listed destroyed... because so many of them are.
