  1. And what's truly sad about this whole thing is that the geocaching community will bend over backwards in order to not offend when instead they should be voicing their indignation loudly and pointing out precisely how idiotic the concern regarding these caches is. Is it really better to be sheep and let the govt. continue to remove freedoms in order for them to feel as if they are projecting an image of "doing their job to protect and serve"? Kinda reminds me of the insults we all seem willing to quietly accept as we pass through security control at the airports. Does anyone really believe that flying has become safer? By having these caches removed, does anyone really believe that the alpine zone will be better protected? Both have everything to do with "image" and nothing to do with "results".
  2. It's a great idea for a coin, but frankly, I would have preferred to see either 1) the circular logo used for a round coin, or 2) a rectangular coin (~2" on it's longest side) for this version of their rectangular logo. You know what I mean? The coin could have been stamped out to match the logo itself. Also, I'd prefer to have a version in English (or, at least a multi-language version like on some of the Jamboree's logos). Maybe some of the other coin-makers here might like to put something together *real* quick that matches my description?
  3. Indeed! I stand corrected. Regardless of what you use Sportsfrau, I'm sure the finder will understand. In fact, you could go with your original text and I doubt that there would be any misunderstanding. Cheers!
  4. Hello Sportsfrau, I believe your original message would be clearly understood. Nonetheless, in case you wanted a version that was grammatically correct, and uses the Groundspeak terminology, I've gone ahead and made those changes: Hope this helps! Enjoy your vacation!! 5. I don't know if this idea is unique, or not, but I am willing to bet that the mission will never be accomplished. Sorry, but as someone who has more than just a casual interest in the space program, I would be very surprized to learn otherwise. One thing is that you probably should have tried to get it to the Houston area, instead of Florida. Any item that an astronaut intends on carrying on a flight must get prior approval. There's no chance that they would show up in Florida and could take something that just gets handed to them. Further, as they aren't allowed to take all that much in the way of personal items anyways, you can bet that their limit has probably been met by personal requests from family and friends to take items for them. Frankly, I would think you'd have a much better chance getting onboard a Soyuz flight. Just look at who's taking paying passengers up nowadays. And speaking of the space tourists, I bet if you could figure out who the next one will be, that getting one of your bugs into their hands would be your absolute best chance of hitching a ride up to space. Of course, they may want you to cover some of their expenses else they'll be inclined, just like the astronauts, to take items for themselves, and their family and friends. At any rate, I wish you, and your bugs, a lot of luck! <Edit: I hate typos!>
  6. While it may be true that neither rings (in general) nor elvish are copyrighted, the movie and the images, sound track, etc. contained within ARE! So, if the intent is to use material from the movie to make a derivative product (especially a commercial one), permission will have to be given from the copyright owners. I have no idea if permission would be granted, but if so, I can imagine that it will come at the expense of a licensing fee which would most likely increase the price of this "coin" drastically.
  7. Well, if I'm not mistaken, one would only have to be concerned about following Groundspeak's rules IF the "coin" was to be trackable. For a non-trackable item, I imagine anything goes. Although, I agree that it would be a stretch to call this a "coin", one solution would be to make a "ring" ala the diabetes series. That would obviously meet Groundspeak's rules, but would be, for me, a less interesting "ring" than that shown above. All in all, I say it's a great idea! I'll keep watching this space to see how it develops.
  8. This is truly a fantastic idea! Please, feel free to add me to the list of those available to release coins & bugs in a wide area around Munich, Germany. I also travel somewhat frequently to Austria and N. Italy and would be more than happy to drop anything there as well. Clear Skies! -StarStrider
  9. I know this is off-topic but, hmmm...what are those poor chaps with pacemakers supposed to do during takeoff and landing? Switch them off? Just havin' some fun.
  10. Again, thanks for the replies everyone. I guess this has you all as stumped as it does me, so I guess I can at least take solace in knowing I'm not alone! Can no one even take a wild guess as to how non-region languages could be installed/activated on these units?
  11. Thanks for the replies everyone. Considering how small these text files are, it's clear that the only reason Garmin is restricting the choices on different versions is simply to discourage individuals like myself from buying out of their region. But, somehow it must be possible to enable/install them else there would be a lot of unhappy buyers in this Ebay store I'm referring to. Hopefully, someone here can shed some light on this mystery and let us all know what the trick is. Edit: The funny thing is, technically, I'm NOT out of the region as I am an American...I just happen to be living in Germany at the moment. But, as I travel back and forth frequently, and half of my family prefers to read German, it would be nice to get the German language capability at the U.S. price!
  12. Hi, I'm a relative noobie to the whole gps scene, but a friend of mine introduced me to the sport of GC and I've caught the bug. I'm looking at purchasing a 60CSx unit, but have a question that, despite spending a couple of days searching the forums, I haven't seen addressed. The only topic I found which might be related is this one here. Please accept my apologies if I was just inept in searching for the proper topic! I would like to puchase my unit in the States, but from what I understand, only the European version has the German language as an option. I've recently found a seller on Ebay which is offering a unit which is clearly the N. American version, but they state that it is enabled with the German language as a menu option. The seller has been around since 2002 and has a near perfect rating with many Germans indicating that the unit performs precisely as promised. Can anyone explain to me how this is possible? Can they add the language onto the microSD? Or, are they hacking the firmware? Are they nullifying the warranty by providing this feature? Any help or insight you might be able to provide would be most appreciated! Best, *Strider Edit: BTW, just to let you know, I have contacted the seller directly regarding this issue, but they have yet to respond after nearly 3 days. If it were not for the fact that so many buyers seem quite happy with their purchase, I'd actually think the seller was just full of it.
  13. I've already posted this in a previous, similar topic, but seeing as I haven't gotten a response back I thought I'd try it again in a new thread. I would like to setup a new account (since I can't simply change my username) and the process worked fine until it came time to validate. Apparently, the issue is that I used a non-standard character. This wasn't an issue for creating the account, just validating it. So, is there any chance that a workaround will be found soon? If not, is it possible to have someone there manually validate my email address (not surprizingly, it's the same one I use for this account)? Thanks! Cheers, -star strider
  14. Sorry! I meant "unlike nazdarek" when I typed "unlike Raine". But, that was obvious, right? Cheers, ?who will i be?
  15. HI...just wanted to say that I have a similar problem. I wish to create a new account (since one can't simply change your username) and can't for this very reason. Unlike Raine, however, the unicode character is too important (to me, at least) for me just to drop it. Is there any way you can do a manual validation? I can send an email to you from the address I've given your servers to prove that it won't bounce. Thanks. Cheers, Rānyxx (I hope!)
