  1. It normally worksfine for me, but this mornig I uploaded my 'my finds' PQ and much to my surprise I appear to have been caching in Texas last week rather than Gwent....
  2. Yes. We just recently returned from a baseball-orientated road trip taking in Toronto, Philadelphia and Baltimore and were amazed by both the amount of history and the quality of some of the caches and how well thought out they were. Of course, some were not so inspiring (we did 3 LPC, two of them in the immense car park at Cabelas in Reading PA) but overall we were found the quality of the caching experience to be as good as in the UK. On the 'pub' and beer front, we were impressed that both Camden Yards and Citizens Bank Park sold a HUGE selection of (proper) beers and ales and Max's at Fells Point is a gem!
  3. But where can a holidaymaker rent one?
  4. I have also taken one across the Atlantic in cabin baggage with no problem. I have also flown within Europe with oneand never even been asked any questions about it.
  5. You're in Bangkok and you expect sympathy for your hardship?
  6. Please, please, please don't ever call a cache "The...". My PDA is clogged with caches starting in "The..." and sometimes the GPS drops the "the" making them a pain to find...
  7. Many thanks all! Time to pack our bags!
  8. GSAK is installed and registered on both - I was just wondering what the name of the backup file is so that I can find it - of course its probably something really obvious... Mike
  9. Hi all, We're off to North America on holiday next week and have bought a second-hand laptop off Fleabay to help with the caching and email etc. Which file do I need to copy from our PC to the laptop to transfer our GSAK database? Thanks, Mike
  10. Hi all, We're coming over from Britain and visting Toronto, Philly and Baltimore for a baseball road trip in early April to see our beloved Blue Jays take on the Red Sox and A's in Toronto, the O's in Baltimore, and to see the Cubs and Phillys in Philly (and so Helen can achieve her life's ambition of having her photo taken with the Phanatic!). We obviously want to combine this with some (lots!) of caching (and get a couple of benchmarks in the process). We'll be staying downtown in Philly for a day and a half or so and plan to see the Liberty Bell, the Mint and the USS New Jersey. We'll have about the same amount of time in Baltimore and will be based in the inner harbour area. We hope to visit the USS Constellation and possibly the aquarium. On the way down we plan to visit Lackawanna Coal Mine and on the way back to Toronto we'll be nipping through Gettysburg, Harrisburg and Reading (to visit Cabelas!). Between Philly and Baltimore we're hoping to visit the Ordnance museum at Aberdeen Proving Grounds (Mike can't get enough tanks and they've just repained the Elephant!) We have a few questions we hope you can answer for us; Are there any 'must do' caches in Baltimore or Philly? Are there any 'must do' tourist attractions in either city that are not on the above list? How safe are the two cities? (Baltimore in particular seems to have quite a teriffying reputation!) Where can we get the 'ultimate'/'best'/'most original' cheese steak? Many thanks, Helen and Mike
  11. Perhaps the attribute should only be used where there is no doubt that the cache is wheelchair friendly?
  12. But how can you use your own judgement without the information on the cache page? And how is a wheelchair user supposed to 'manage' to get over a stile?
  13. Interesting stuff! Would it be possible to sort the results by region (so that the USA is grouped together, as is Europe etc) so that the information is a bit easier to digest?
  14. Rats! We were hoping to do that one tomorrow... Mike (who is stuck in work but doesn't mind because the weather isn't up to much..)
  15. I was having this problem and can confirm that Norton is the culprit. After removing Norton and replacing it with various freeware applications (including the very excellent AVG) the maps now run fine in Vista (on the PC) and XP Pro (on the laptop). Mike
  16. You're right. Stealing trackables is one thing but this is just, well, its plain wierd! I think that we're dealing with someone who enjoys the act of 'recreating' the travel items and then, presumably, gets a kick when a cacher logs the item and moves it on without relising that it is an imposter. I don't think that this person is a thief per se - their elaborate and time consuming 'replacements' suggest another (bonkers!) motive, as does the fact that they (she?) take both coins and TBs. The 'thief' appears to be quite well off if one of the items was last logged in Massachusetts... I wonder if this person is also a mainstream cacher? Will keep an eye open in our corner of Wales. Mike
  17. I'd have thought that in such circumstances having the device fixed to your winscreen by a suction cup or to an air vent by a clip proably wouldn't stop it flying around either! This sounds like the Mythbusters 'will a box of tissues kill you?' episode
  18. Many thanks - I'll have to give that a try!
  19. I use a Palm M515 with Cachemate. Palm, in their wisdom, have decided not to provide Vista compatibility for this older PDA so I cannot use the Hotsync function. Instead, I just take the SD card out of the Palm, pop it into the card reader on the PC and transfer the files manually, whic is botheasy and faster than hotsync
  20. I am hoping to go next week car troubles not withstanding Excellent! It will be nice to know we're not on our own!
  21. Yup! Published as soon as it got dark this evening. Enjoy That didn't stop half of them being done before the day of the event though. What's the protocol on this? I know poor old Sniffadogz are still trying to recover after not getting their usual FTF fix. At least there will be a nice 'cacher's trial' to make it easier next for us when we attend next week (I'm tapped in the Office this weekend on O/T. Wouldn't be too bad but the system is down so there's not a lot to do... ). From the look of the logs on the event page, it seems like all it'll be us all on our own as everyone else hseems to have attended already! Mike
  22. Not really, not if you buy a quality one. Its more a case of packing properly for the same reason as with an external frame pack - to achieve a well balanced load, which is more biomechanically efficient to carry. Here in the UK it is possible to buy specialised women's rucksacks in various sizes. This is a good one. In my experience, external frame rucksacks are very uncomfortable compared to internal and the whole 'sweating less with a frame pack' mythos owes more to marketing and urban myth than to reality... after all, the gap is minimal and is hardly a 'wind trap'. If a pack is properly adjusted, it shouldn't rub.
