  1. Well, the Oregon does display Comments. Main Menu Where To? Waypoints (Select a Waypoint) Select the White bar at the top of the map The Waypoint data including the Comment is displayed. If there is no Comment, Select the Pencil Icon Select Change Comment Write your Comment Select the green checkmark It will now be displayed as per the above steps. Hmm.. I just checked some waypoint-gpx files in EasyGPS and found that the Comment field is blank in all of them. I can easily put the text in them, though I have to edit each waypoint (in this case Waymarks) separately. Oh well, it's just about 50, and maybe I at least know then what all those waypoints are about edit: this worked! Quite a lot of work for something that should, in my opinion be done automatically. Oh well...
  2. I don't think this will get through the review. An Earthcache should always be a geological feature, and trees are first of all biological features. See the guidelines here: http://www.geosociety.org/earthcache/guidelines.htm Unless I misunderstood you and you're talking about petrified trees. These should be possible for an Earthcache Good luck, Mrs. terratin
  3. Yes, I did but could not find anything useful. Apparently it's possible to load waypoints as POI with GSAK and a macro, but I don't want to load every hiking WP (turn left here) as a POI. Oh, I just read this one here "New feature requests Add the ability to see the "cmt" field of waypoints imported from gpx files. Particularly with geocaching child waypoints this field is used to describe the waypoint and it would be nice to be able to see this information on the detailed waypoint screen." So basically, this doesn't seem to be possible to do at all
  4. I've never tried that to be honest Lets see what happens. Where to -> Waypoints -> chose one -> click on the small WP name window overlaying the map to get to the “distance, local time and location coordinates” -> ... nothing happens So basically it's not clickable. The information is stored within the .gpx file, some of it appears on the Vista but I just don't find a way of displaying it on the Oregon. Mrs. terratin
  5. How do I show a description of a waypoint on the Oregon 450? On the old Vista HCX I could always see the description of a waypoint, for example "Go left here", on the Oregon I only see ditance, local time and location coordinates. I would like to make some Waymarks, but don't even get the name and short description. Also with cache waypoints it's useless to not have a description of what a waypoint actually means. Thanks, Mrs. terratin
  6. That's a shame Tony. It looks like a great cache to find! Btw, we found a 'black box' in a crashed plane earlier this month and really enjoyed it. Check out: GC2JW68 Mrs. terratin
  7. Thanks a lot Chief! I think it's a 4s, so it should work somehow. Can I ask you (or whoever feels like answering) a really stupid question? How do I save cache data on that phone in the first place? And I suppose I won't have a map then? Thanks a lot, Mrs. terratin
  8. Can someone explain to me to what extend I can use the geocaching app and compass when I don't have a data-connection? My phone is blocked for data usage abroad and I wonder if I can still use it for caching. Btw, could I do a Wherigo with it? At our latest travel destination there's a Wherigo that goes through the whole town and it would be great if I could just use either the gps or phone for the Wherigo, and the other for caching along that route. Thanks, Mrs. terratin
  9. LOL! I now downloaded a few pages of waymarks, renamed them and emailed them to myself. Then I was able to open them in GE. Unfortunately all the waymarks vanished again after a few hours and i don't see a way of actually saving them. I'm also looking for a way to download more than 20 waymarks in one file at a time. There are about 200 of them in town and i do enjoy reading about that location instead of just standing about, taking photos in case there's a waymark there. It's just too much fuss to reload so many kml files, and keep them updated.
  10. i did that as well however i cannot do that with the mobile phone as i don't seem to be able to download the file in the first place.
  11. When I try to send my search results to Google Earth they don't open up. Turns out this premium member function only creates an .aspx file instead of a .kml Tried with Firefox on WinVista and Safari on mobile phone
  12. OK, I've progressed a bit. I just installed the google earth app and it can identify my location. Appearantly I can search on the Waymarking website for waymarks near my and download them straight into google earth. Only: it's not working on the iPhone (assuming I do everything correct. Good chance I don't). And I don't know if the KML file will only contain the waymarks on the first oage, or all in the search. Any suggestions on this? edit: ah, now I know why it's not working. The little button to send waymarks directly to google earth creates a search.aspx file instead of a search.kml file (and there are indeed only 20 waymarks included). I don't think that's high on the GS priority list, but has this been reported as a bug?
  13. Hello, I wonder if there's a way to use Waymarking kind of on the fly with an IPhone. What I mean is this: I'm on a office surprise daytip tomorrow, thus preparing waypoints is rather pointless as I'm not quite sure where I'll exactly be. The bus might also go via various bridges that are Waymarks. Is there a way to sync your location with the Waymarking website? I currently don't have a dedicated geocaching app for the phone but plan to get the official one. Though not before tomorrow.
  14. Problems seem to be solved now, after a tiny server downtime. At least I can search on the map and my default is back to Copenhagen.
  15. There seem to be some server problems. I can access that site, however all images won't load. I'd give it a few minutes and then try it again. Mrs. terratin
  16. I just noticed one of our ECs is now at the end of a powertrail It might bring more visitors to that place, on the other hand I'm not too keen on powertrails. Mixed feelings here. Mrs. terratin
  17. I don't mind much if a cache is only available in the local language. We live in your neighborhood and picked up masses of local caches including language-based mysteries, without fully understanding your language. And to be honest, we often try to read through the local language text because the translation is so useless. If we go on vacation we just prepare and translate texts where necessary. That works fine for us anyway. Mrs. terratin
  18. We have a couple of ECs on not very popular places: Two in Qatar which mostly get visited when Qatar's most active cacher is driving people around (thanks Cincol!) Two on Sri Lanka. One hardly ever gets visited as it's quite far away from the usual tourist routes. The other one gets a fair amount of logs. Unfortunately, most cacher don't read the description and hope that their log stands without sending in any answers. One in Norway -most visits with 36- which we should really get translated as it's got not many visitors either, and only in summer. Oh, and there's the one on Gran Canaria, the island where some ECs get several logs each day. It's far away from the tourist resorts and it's not easy. I guess that keeps most people from visiting it. We're thinking about adding a German translation though. Maybe that location will get a bit more well deserved attention (if anyone of you will spend the summer holiday there: it's a fascinating place, sedimentary deposits on an otherwise volcanic island! ). Good luck with dealing with your visitors! Mrs. terratin
  19. I can help futher: the reviewer for Spain is GeoawareEU1. He also published our last EC in Spain. Mrs. Terrain
  20. Hi DarkSasquatch, have a look at the www.earthcache.org website. Under the EarthCache Masters link to the left you can see that in order to qualify for Bronze Earthcache Master you need to "Visit and log three (3) or more Earthcaches in two (2) or more states/countries." and so forth. There's also the Earthcache Discovery Award where you can gain different levels by just logging many Earthcaches. To qualify for the Quartz 50+ level you need to find more than 50 EarthCaches. We're currently working on the next level, Mica and I hope we'll manage this year. We've found 71 in total now and still need to find 29. Not sure if it'll work out, though we can log an additional 15 on our summer vacation. Did I mention we like Earthcaches? Mrs. terratin
  21. Woohoo! Congratulations Carbon Hunter! I hope your Number 1000 was a good cache. I just checked what our 1000 was, and even with the description next to me I cannot remember Mrs. terratin
  22. Can't you just borrow the book from your local library? (Or university library?) Cheers, Mr. Terratin
  23. Thanks a lot Carbon Hunter. Now I have to add more travel destinations to my ever longer growing list Help, I can't keep up Mrs. terratin
  24. There are a few ECs I'd love to visit, just because they exist. Though it would cost a little fortune to get there in the first place. For example: http://coord.info/GC22Q8A http://coord.info/GC2419E As for entrance fees (for not commercial businesses): I would be miffed if it wasn't mentioned in the description, though for most of those locations I can think for myself that entrance will not be free.
  25. Copenhagen has a tiny centre and it's a beautiful city with lots to see. However, many caches here are mysteries (many nice ones!) which might be difficult to solve if you don't know the city too well or don't speak Danish. Mrs. terratin
