Invisible Shield Removal
Gadget_Cacher replied to david.travis's topic in GPS technology and devices
i recently bought one for my 60csx...install was easy and i only know its there because the screen now has a tiny bit more reflection to it than before. Otherwise you don't even notice it. It was well worth the 7.95 i spent on it. Plus i got the free shipping and with the new UPS/USPS system i even got a tracking number with it. I hope i never have to see it in action, but i am glad i have it on there. -
Of course how many people out there really know the difference between an oak tree and a pine tree....at least in my area its rather few.

All in one navigation with geocaching
Gadget_Cacher replied to tmags2's topic in GPS technology and devices
i use my 60csx for car nav and geocaching and it works great for me at both. The audio signals are enough to get my attention and i have never missed a turn....i have purposefully gone past a turn to see what happens and the 60csx simply rerouted me using the path i was on. I am very pleased. -
IWPWSAESPOT....... Stands for: I wish People would stop abbreviating every stinking phrase out there..... how hard is it to simply type out...thanks for the cache? See that took me 2 seconds to type. Sorry for the gripe i just had to put it out there.

I am looking to place my first cache sometime in the future. I am also beginning to find more caches in my area that have swag in them. So my question is would Adults generally appreciate the following as swag: Rain ponchos Table Tennis balls Small Flashlights Baseballs Glow Sticks Tennis Balls Cooler Ice packs (the reusable kind) Tissues (small sealed packages) Camping toilet tissue I would definitely appreciate your opinions on this. Thanks,

gsak does exactly what yuor asking about http://www.gsak.net/ its a nice robust program, but you will need a geocaching.com premium membership to take full advantage of its features.

My GPSMap 76CSX Kicks Butt!
Gadget_Cacher replied to HDxFATBOYxHD's topic in GPS technology and devices
90% of the "issues" with the 60CSx is a failure to read the manual. Ignorance of the unit should not be confused with issues with the unit. Its a really powerful full featured GPS that simply rocks. -
if you calibrate your compass on your 60csx i think your results would be better with it.

Is this irritating? Yes it is, but from what i have seen from the developers in the past I know they are wroking hard to get this fixed. Geocaching seems to have hit quite a boom in the last year and they are probably still trying to meet the demand. We do pay for the service and its not unreasonable for us to expect it to work, but unlike many other companies we know they are working on it. Where as many of us pay a lot more to companies who offer buggy and just bad software, with little to no complaint. Give them time they will figure it out ...the other option you have is to cancel your premium service until the issue is resolved.

I don't think there are mandatory markings, but it would be a good idea to put a geocaching.com sticker on it...or have something that identifies it as a geocache and what geocaching is. This will prevent the uneducated person from thinking its a bomb or something. Its always good to have detailed information so if nothing else you may get someone else addicted to it.

It also depends on how your GPSr can use the card. If it can be used to store more waypoints, routes etc, it would be a great idea to have a larger card. I keep a 2 gig in mine since i do have the whole country installed on the card and since it only cost me 20 bucks it was worth getting.

The Magellan units' compass will only work if you are moving at a certain speed. This has nothing to do with which north setting you have. The explorist series, i believe, gets it compass heading from the satellites so it is not a true electronic compass. Because of this you must be moving at least 2mph (i think thats the right speed) for it to be accurate.

garmin gpsmap 60cs vs. 60csx

Not that i am aware of..i think thats more along the lines of their car GPS units, i could be wrong, but i haven't seen anything that says it does. -
garmin gpsmap 60cs vs. 60csx
Gadget_Cacher replied to seanb580's topic in GPS technology and devices
as far as the NT versus the non NT...the NT version has a different compression rate than the non NT..meaning you can put the same amount of maps in a smaller file....some have reported less than 1 gig. The NT also offers real time traffic information to the GPS unit, if your gps supports that functionality, either version should be fine for you. I use City Nav 8 non NT and i love it. And you are more than welcome! -
garmin gpsmap 60cs vs. 60csx
Gadget_Cacher replied to seanb580's topic in GPS technology and devices
http://www.sandisk.com/Products/ProductInfo.aspx?ID=2027 something like that would work fine...obviously you can find it much cheaper than that. Stick with the standard Micros SD and you will be fine. The ultras, i believe, support a higher transfer rate that the garmin gps units cannot handle. You can generally find a 2 gig micros sd for about 25-30 bucks online. -
Garmin 60csx shortcomings
Gadget_Cacher replied to wildgoose007's topic in GPS technology and devices
be that as it may you can also tell it what your current elevation is as well. If the captain says you are cruising at 30,000 ft then go from there....honestly this whole thing seems to be more of a pet peeve than an actual shortcoming. -
garmin gpsmap 60cs vs. 60csx
Gadget_Cacher replied to seanb580's topic in GPS technology and devices
if you want the entire North america City nav on one card you will need a 2 gig micro SD card. The NON NT version of city nav takes up 1.6 gigs for the entire package. -
Are there any...the closest i have seen is the one in roanoke, but i wanted to see if there was a closer group than that to me. Thanks

60CSx selective POI display?
Gadget_Cacher replied to LetterDude's topic in GPS technology and devices
If you use the POI loader from garmin (free download) and import the pois from gasak using this macro http://gsak.net/board/index.php?showtopic=...amp;#entry26848 you get a custom poi category which is broken up by the types defined in the macro. I personally dont like it, but it may work for you. Thanks cpatch for the link
