There is no advantage to that for them, they may have just taken it with them on a caching adventure, and gone ahead and logged it in and out of each cache they visited. They may not have felt any of the caches they visited were secured enough to leave the TB--I have had that happen before. Once I was stuck with a cache for a couple of weeks until I could get somewhere safe to leave it--even my old "stand-by drop off caches" were having trouble just then.
Hopefully, they'll find a nice spot for it and release it soon to so another cacher can pick it up.
