  1. you can pick up a GPS for pretty cheap....for all the time you'll spend mucking around with your compass and decoding hints, just buy one.
  2. I have a Garmin 12 that I bought new about four years ago. It is *always* within fifteen feet, never lags, and I haven't lost a signal yet. I has almost no bells and whistles, but it's fun reading about the problems the newer fancier models have. Knowing me and my early adapter, more-expensive-is-better attitude, I'll end up with a nicer one. But it probably won't work as good.
  3. Why isn't our thread nearly as active as the Bay area or central valley threads?
  4. Is that a good idea? Piss the snake off before stepping on it.....
  5. Well, if you've been following the conversation, I never mentioned taking the trinkets. In fact, I don't usually take anything or leave anything. I'm also mostly interested in the log. In the interest of defusing a (possibly imagined) hostile situation, I acknowledge that some people might find the personal cards interesting, a more graphic "who's been here" sort of thing. Myself, I prefer the logs. I might be dumb, too, but i can't figure out TNLNSL. Took nothing, left nothing, ....?
  6. No, i didnt grab it, i forgot. Security wont let you in the gate without a ticket, so you can't just waltz in and get it....
  7. What do you do with all these great, interesting personalized cards? Take em home and put em on your desk? Sit at the cache for awhile and read through them? The stamp of the log sounds cool. I did a cache today where someone "punched" a cat paw into one of the log pages. That was dope.
  8. Heh, yeah! I'm glad someone recognizes him.
  9. I'm headed back to the C gates in Vegas today. Looks like no one cared enough about $5 to grab this, or else cachers don't fly enough ;-) What do y'all think the chances of it still being there are?
  10. I do not know if we are thinking of the same person; I can not recall his name/handle. And I certainly meant nothing personal by it; he could be a great guy. But in response to the previous two postings, I do not think that leaving a card is the same as leaving a note in the log. Perhaps it hinges on the statement by Kouros, "...there weren't that many people that left them at the time." I admit, I'm pretty new at this. But for the two months I've been doing it, I've been pretty active. I have come across several caches that are literally stuffed with cards, personal advertisements, taped advertisements, etc. Now maybe the personal "calling cards" are not in the same league as business advertisements, but I just can't help thinking, there's a log book, why not use that? As for the calling cards being collected and traded for, I know nothing of this. If this is true, then maybe I can see value in it. However, I personally would see no redeeming value in collecting these. Different strokes, etc. I suppose my "half a mind to remove them" has been changed, now that I see that at least one person enjoys them. I suppose I just won't make my own cards
  11. Here in San Diego up near Black Mountain, theres a random cardboard structure that looks very much like a pay phone. But it's not. I have no idea what it is, but I've seen a few references to it, such as "took a left at the pay phone."
  12. I think it is commercial. Or at least "commercial". There is a log supplied to record your name, website, any info you care to put down in writing. Cards do nothing but clutter up the cache. Here in the San Diego area, there's a certain cacher who apparently makes business cards for a living, so he leaves his "geocacher" card in every cache to try to drum up business. That detracts from the enjoyment, for me. I have half a mind to remove them.

  14. I have a Garmin 12 I got four or five years ago. What could I do with this data cable? Do I need any special software or anything?
  15. I cache there sometimes in the afternoon, just finding some of the urban ones....1/2 hour or hour long ones. I'm in Vegas every week or so on business. Let me know if you're interested in an urban cache, or if you're only interested in the long hunts.
  16. My two cents: I don't want detailed parking instructions, giveaway hints, or the like. The fun for me is figuring out the whole package - parking, route, hiding spot, etc.
  17. I've done a lot of desert hiking, and have more than my share of battle scars from aggressive agave plants. The best remedy is to not stumble into them. I don't know of any pants that can withstand southwest cacti. I have a pair of army pants, thick and heavy....they go right through that.
  18. Anyone feel like going up to the peak of Black Mountain with me today?
  19. Darn it, I forgot about this. I needed a reminder email or somehting
  20. You don't want to just pick it up at the airport? Enterprise advertises that they will pick you up/drop you off....
  21. quote:Originally posted by Geemack:The game is currently very specific about prohibiting outside agendas. Be a good example, don't do it. Those who leave such materials set a bad example by being clearly without regard for the other players and the objective of the game. If you left religious materials in caches before you knew the rules, you were just negligent. If you leave this sort of material after you know the rules, you're simply a contemptuous jerk. Leaving condoms displays more class. GeeMack Where can I find these very specific rules prohibiting agendas? I looked around....
