Not sure who told you the explorist XL will not use the Rechargable NiMH batteries? I use mine for geocaching on a regular basis with rechargables. No problems at all to this point. -
I bought an XL from Tigergps just over a month ago. Just started geocaching but seems to work great and I love the large screen.

I have the Magellan Explorist XL and its my second Magellan. I did call support over a map issue and they did help me resolve it. They seemed very helpful. I'm new to geocaching. I bought my first magellan for hiking. It always brought me home when needed. The Explorist XL, seems to work very well and so far I am happy with its performance.
