I want to be able to keep track of my finds, but I don't necessarily want to write a log each time I find a cache. Is there a way just to mark the caches I find and keep a record of all my cache found without
writting a log? Thanks
There sure is.
Sign the cache log, then mark it down on your own personal log book in your pocket.Cache name,difficulty,terrain,date...that sort of thing.Maybe you could keep it on your comp.Even those who don't log finds online sign the cache log. It's the courteous thing to do.Logging online is not voluntary however. If there is some other way to do it I don't know. But your own physical log is the only way I see to do it.

But just for fun-

Here is a cache that I found today.
This is the container and the name of the cache...
<snippy>
Rather than being offended I saw the humor in it, laughed and moved on...
well thats more like stating historical fact not so much a political message.
embarrassments
that's embarrassmInts
Not according to microsoft word
But yes I noticed that.

If I was thinking national embarrassments...He wouldn't be the first one that comes to mind.
However,Trailgator's response to that cache would have been mine as well.

Sorry, let me clarify what I meant: After she gave birth!!! not while she was. I'm not that stupid, I don't want to DIE at the hands of a hormone crazed female. I don't want to think of the kind of pain she would lay down on me for leaving during the middle of birth
You had us worried there genegene!Head line of the Washington,Mass local paper-
"Geocachers find body parts in several local caches."

That's nothing, there is a cache here in Tonga that still hasn't been found it was set in 2003....given that I am the only cacher that I know of in Tonga that's not hard. Mind you I didn't place the cache, I'm just to lazy to go the half hour boat trip to Fafa Island to get it.....
Heh...that's just like here in Iraq...not uncommon for a cache to sit unfound for three-five months. My buddy was in shock when I showed him the cache page that had been idle for three months.

All these different attributes/requests are starting to get out of hand, in my opinion. Lets just go caching.

...Simple Magellan hatin' is all.No issue.
Simple observation. Most of my magellan experience comes from caching with Night Stalker when he had a sport track pro. I have a GPS V.
I've seen the pro's and cons of how both GPSs operate. There are advantages and disadvantages to each.
A magellan advantage. Less wandering under tree cover. The same things that causes the boomerange effect appears to keep you from wandering around so much. My garmin would bounce me from point to point while the Magellan kept to a tighter circle. Some attribute this to better receptoin but...we were able to figure how to really check the Sport Track's reception (after it didn't have any and reported that we should go the wrong direction...but that's another adventure) we found that there was no noticable real world difference.
Nobod had a problem with Night Stalkers caches placed using the Sport Track. But we both tend to put our down and let them average while we hide the cache. They get 5-10 minutes of averaging.
Joke RK...just a joke... I do notice on my new 60cx that it wanders like a mofo if I stand still and it has poor reception.I wanted to try an XL,but no one was convincing me in the thread I started that magellan was woth trying.Might still try one anyways.

if you understand the function of a moose wallow, you will better comprehend my alarm.
in season, the bull will scrape out a hollow and he will urinate in it. he will mix up the mud well and he will wait. he hopes that a cow and usually her yearling calf will come by, and if they accept his leadership, they will roll in it.
one afternoon i was hunting a cache called "beaver meadow". i had come up on the wrong trail and decided to bushwhack two and a half miles on rough terrain. at some point i was bleeding from a puncture wound, standing calf-deep in moose urine, which was bad enough, but then the host appeared. i was not what he had in mind and he was very disappointed.
Um...when I get my moose tag...I might have to send you a PM for coords...hmmm

I was out night caching using a AA minimag flashlight IN THE WOODS. I spooked a deer that was about 10 feet away from me. That will get your attention really quick.
Heh...ditto on that.
The only better ones are Partridge.I don't care how many times you've been in the woods and know where they'll be.To say they explode from their hiding spots is an understatement. Dang things get me EVERY time.I've yet to see how someone could shoot one from the spots I've seen em' fly (burst/explode) out of.

Ooo!! OOOO!!
Did it, all the way, every inch, every blaze in 1990.
Got eight hours to look at my slides? (No joke..)
Wow...8 hours. At least they'll be intresting slides, not Aunt Matilda I've never met outside of the museum of thimbles.
One thing I found intresting is the AT leaves out some of the best scenery in the Appalacian range...The Adirondacks. Is there a trail that goes seperately through them,as the Long Trail does for our Green Mountains? There HAS to be...

That is why I wait to put the best swag in my caches until after I see a FTF log. It is hard enough getting people to trade even so why should all the good swag go only to the FTF. Some FTFers treat this a contest and feel that they have a right to take an item as prize and not trade for it like normal. The FTF hounds get their prize by being the FTF. I don't need them draining my caches of the best swag too.
Hmmm...you got gears turning with that idea...(Yes that was the smoke you saw)

We have a lot of hiking caches in my area, some 2, 5, 10 miles plus round trip. The challenge of the hike and the destination basically IS the cache. I've seen quite a few logs that a person was with someone else while hiding a cache and did not log as a find. But upon returning in the future after having done the hike again and "finding" the cache they have logged as a find. I think that this is legitimate and within the spirit of the game.
Meh...I wouldn't do it...but that's just me.

Is this first cache found, or first cache placed?
OP wasn't specific,so ladies' choice...

I dunno, wrong Datum set on the GPS for NEFF?
That's what I was thinking....
Magellan users can have this issue. Even with the right datum.
??? My Magellan works as well as my dad's 60CX (we've tested)....
What issue?
Simple Magellan hatin' is all.No issue.

If people are sooo concerned about actual FTf's then why don't cache hiders put a extra special personalized one of a kind signature item in a new cache and only the person who picks up that item is the real FTF.
I know some tournament caches that are like this.
Just because FTF sharks get into feeding frenzies doesn't mean cache owners need to use chum.
Me thinks I just found a sutable replacement for the ol' sig line quote.

Sheesh, I counted at least 40 (URL removed) fake finds on this one[/url].
Why do you care?
What makes you think I do?
In the spirit of the thread, NO CACHER NAMES OR LINKS were to be used.
It stayed that way for years. The thread is to make fun of the logs and NOT TO BELITTLE fellow cachers.
Frankly, I'm surprised this thread has been allowed to go on this long. There is at least one person who regularly posts here who frequently includes the name of the cachers involved in the body of the log, although s/he does remove the name from the top of the log. I keep hoping that this entire thread would either be closed or just fall off the page and be forgotten. If there was ever any real humor to the thread, it faded for me when it occurred to me that might be intentional. Perhaps it's time to let this one go?
Yeah,I'm thinkin' NO.
This thread is the anonymous wall of shame for those that can't seem to cache with integrity.Honestly I'd love to see usernames. Then you know who the honest folks are,and not the find count padders. You'll never see one of my logs here. And realistically there should be no need for this thread if you think about it.Act with integrity.Either you found it or you didn't Plain and simple.

I guess it is something to consider.
I have done several bird house caches. One had two birdhouses with one being the cache. It was obvious which was which. One didn't have a bird hole while the other did.
The other was a bird house that was real with a separate compartment for the cache.
I agree with not making bird nests into cache or disguising them that way. Bit i hadn't thought about actual houses. Wouldn't most people be able to tell if they were occupied without touching them?
Don't be so gullible.......
LOL.....

Then start a new hobby with hubby that you think is closely enough related to not cost a mint. Draft horses. Let's see..... none of the tackroom full of equipment fits them. They don't fit in the trailer. They eat more. They need special shoes that most horse shoers won't do. Vet bills cost more because they get treated based on weight and they weigh TWICE as much as my little endurance horse did. We had to buy a bigger trailer. Bargain bin harness costs $350 per set and we have SIX of the monsters. We get away with only needing two sets because we don't have anything that takes more than two horses to pull, but each horse has to have a collar that fits and those are $100+ and no two of ours wear the same size.
Now we've bought a cart $650, a mower $200, but we drove from Ohio to the coast of Maryland to get it, a plow for only $50 but it is looking like it will take at least four horses to actually plow with it, so we'll have to get two more sets of harness and a four horse evener, and a sleigh for $200 but it needs restored and goodness knows what that will cost. (but I gotta admit, I can't wait to see it finished and flying across a frozen field with my Clydesdale pulling it!)
Where's that green with envy smiley...
Oh man do I want a couple of Belgians or Percherons someday.....

Photobucket is great. It usually fits the picture perfectly on the forum page.
FYI - if you use photobucket, you don't need to use the tree icon on these forums. Photobucket gives you 3 options of links to post for your picture....just use the one that begins with, .
What the ((Hug))stress said....

Hey, why not an additional function of Geo-Genie that goes out, retrieves the cache for you and brings it right to your recliner so you can log it from home, and then takes it back?
What? That would defeat the purpose of putting a cache out in the first place, you say?
Hm.
No thanks. If someone makes a cache a challenge, I want to experience the challenge they intended; and likewise if I hid a challenging cache, I don't want shortcuts used.
I think out of all the posts,I agree with dkwolf the most.Everyone wants a way around something now or a shortcut it seems like these days. This Geo-Genie idea does not allow one to develop problem solving skills.Where is that feel of triumph and satisfaction when you finally solve the puzzle?Way to many would just Geo-Genie a puzzle someone worked hard on to create.I rank this up there with not reading the cache page.
Just accept the fact that every cacher cannot find every cache.I don't scuba,I don't rock climb, and I'm not into mountaineering,so there's just some caches I'm never going to find.Ask how VinnyandSue Team would feel if they discovered a cacher had sent in a climber to get one of their 5 star pyscho urban caches? This is at the same level. The log would be deleted, and so would the one on my puzzle cache that said the 'finder'used Geo-Genie.
Sorry, but there's just caches out there that aren't for everyone,to include me.I hold no angst towards caches I will not be able to claim. In fact, you might look at those types of caches, and it just might make you say,"Maybe I should try something new to get it?"

I usually do it by keeping another tab open for the forum(So essentially I've two tabs open in the same brower window for the GS forum.),then I can do a thread search,or reply to the post and cut and paste that into the response,or do whatever I need to do.Just easier for me I spose.

Have you changed the date at the bottom of the page to say "all" instead of the default "last thirty days"?
Exactly.Change it to all posts...I did for general topics.I have another window open in my browser and I've been sifting through threads since 2000.It will list them all.
