  1. Started out with a Garmin GPS II in 2000.Recently bought a GPS V.Debating now on either a 60cs or a Magellan XL or maybe both. Also want to convince my hunting buddy to get a Garmin rhino 130 so we can find each other while hunting...but if we both have gps (He's got an Etrex)couldn't we just give our grid to each other over the motorolas?HMMM...so many choices!
  2. I like Tiger Direct for my comp related needs.I've had good luck ordering from them, although they aren't the cheapest, they're reasonable. The 2 GB card comes with adapter for 39.99.I mostly use them because they ship to my FPO no problem.
  3. VAGUE For Vermont Area Cachers United Everywhere.Snappy acronym title courtesy of the great flask.
  4. They must have known you were a Magellan user, and were used to lousy customer service... BWHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!That's awsome!!!!!HAHA!!! I can't believe this is still going on! Yeah I'd be mad as well if a company sent me a free replacement part that I intended to purchase.
  5. Closest to the house. The next closest one is not even in my town,so I started off with a multi for my first.Haven't been able to shake the bug since...
  6. Well,in my opinion, geocaching is like hunting. The should never be a numbers contest involved with either. Each cache is like an animal,it's different from the last, different from the next. Each cache should be it's own little triumph or defeat. Everything nowadays has to be a competion.I say slow down, and enjoy the hunt. But then again I've only 10 finds myself, even though I've been caching since 6/06(Only due to my location and situation),so all of you old school charter members can correct me as well and talk about all of these new breed of cachers nowadays...
  7. Now that's great service! As for this- Dude was trying to BUY another one.Didn't sound like he was complaining to me.Whatever man.
  8. I've been poking around the woods since I started walkin'....why not find cool stuff too?Plus training my eyes for something that's out of place in the woods keeps them trained for squirrel hunting. I wish I had started this business earlier, but never having had a computer or internet till recently,I never knew this whole 'underground' treasure hunt was going on right under my nose.Already had the GPSr.I could never go back to 'Muggle' status. Caching in some spots also doubles as great preseason scouting for hunting as well.Since I've been in Iraq,we're fortunate to have caches on alot of the big bases and smaller FOBs (Like the one I'm on).Even though I've found all of the ones here already,it's such a HUGE break up of the everyday eat-work-eat-work-eat-check email-sleep repeat routine I'm in. Probably my worst experience was finding six caches while on some R&R after my first 14 months here and having to wait another 14 till more caching!LOL...makes going home even better I spose. The best was converting a muggle while on his six moth deployment here.I was more excited then he was when making finds, not that he wasn't enjoying it.After a while he was eyeing every container he could find from old welding rod containers to his altoid tins saying,"Hmmm, potential geocache.."
  9. Amen bro. That park you described...that's just rediculous.45 bags of trash...
  10. LOL.... If you're in a public park ...use some common sense. If you're in the woods...walk FAR away from the cache and let er' fly. It's not rocket science.Humans have been doing their business in the woods since creation.Scratch a hole in the dirt, poop, use leaves, bury it,and be on your way. This enviromental sensitivity stuff is hilarious sometimes. It's poop, not nuclear waste. LOL...humans are animals too,not aliens(But that's in another debate in another forum).
  11. Yup, Can't be done! There's several posts about this already anyways. You have to make a new account. I know because I've done it.
  12. I made up my first cache before I came back over here off R&R.I themed it as a fisherman's cache.I had dreams of folks trading fishing and fishing themed swag in it,kind of like a remote fishing tackle suppy box.I had started if off with some plastic worms, and some of my hand tied flies that I know work awsome on the river that it's only feet away from.Reading the logs and what folks had left in there tell a different story however. It's more my fault however,as I didn't specify what specificaly to leave in the cache.Lesson learned. You can bet the cache page will be edited and the cache and restocked when I return. I try my best to leave good stuff in caches, but mostly I'm more of a TNLN type of cacher, unless there's a unique or high value item(To me,not moneywise..like one cache here had a "sapper" tab in it that really wanted. It's a patch for Army engineers) in the cache. Then I'll try to leave a good item in it's place.I plan to buy more pre war Iraqi dinar for leaving in caches too.I try not to be one the "elitist" cachers, but when it comes to swag, the McCrap needs to McLeave the game, unless it's a kids cache.
  13. Exactly why I hated it when I was stationed there!I feel sorry for gun owners there....I can just imadgine the rediculous laws they've come up with out there for cachers as well.
  14. Yeah,I knew the questions were going to start about the sidearms ...... I never go into the woods without a sidearm at the very least.Never know what's going to happen or what delicious animal season it is.Course if you live in VT there's no need for a concealed carry permit so it's usually on me most the time,or at least in the truck. I love that little .25 up there too.Nice little pocket gun. What's here- Caching bag with swag and pen/pencils,Buck stryder folder, benchmade auto folder, camera pouch,GPS V with case and cig lighter adapter,Leatherman, surefire w/ red filter,LED head lamp, and extra logbooks for full or ruined ones. *Not pictured*-Sig P229 ...soon though and cellphone, although it's about usless in 70% percent of the areas I frequent, including outside my front door.
  15. Tiger Direct for APO/FPO's!!! They've got good prices and they ship to mil addresses.I've used them extensively and they're very good, they ship two weeks or less to my FPO in Iraq. http://www.tigerdirect.com/
  16. Can't believe I'm saying this, but after 25 months in Iraq and dealing with Tacomas and Hiluxes,I'm going to get a Yota....I'm thinking an 85 or earlier straight axle.A good second, gas efficient truck till my 86 3/4 Chev diesel conv is done.Just can't get along without a fullsize.Wish I could get a diesel hilux with the 2.8 diesel...You can literally drive the thing for two weeks before filling up.Toyota should offer that motor in the states...I'd buy one in a heartbeat. Made the bed rack, front and rear bumpers with another guy here. These trucks are awsome.I've seen em run with gas in the tank, clogged air filters, newbies behind the wheel that can't drive a standard. I think this one's an 02 model. Forgot to add-And yes,I have used it as a cache mobile while here.
  17. From what I'm seeing and reading, customer service, and the software seems to be hard to use.I've never owned one but this is all read off the net- http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=159582 Plus I've read reviews off of Tiger Direct, amazon, and others. They seem to have WAY more problems than Garmin units.I'm still thinking of getting an XL or 500.I've even been having magellan owners admit the Garmin 60 series is the one to go with.
  18. Anything good? yea-no...sorry. Westchester county,NY is probably the number one place in the country for the best chance of contracting Lymes disease.Growing up I knew several folks that had it,and it's only getting worse as the deer population increases. My buddy that still lives there is paranoid about caching around there, and I can't say I blame him.I don't think there was one time I went in the woods around there without coming out with a tick on me.Thankfully most of them were wood ticks, although one time I had a deer tick on...umm...well,a very dear area of mine....scary to say the least, but it wasn't a carrier thankfully.REAL fun gettin' THAT one off.. My father retells the story of a good friend of his that shot a huge eight pointer(this was sometime in the 70's when you could actually hunt there, even though there's an actual bow season for the area every year...now people would just call the cops on you),he had it hanging in his garage, and because the deer was dead the ticks detach themselves from the animal and move to a live host animal. He said there was so many deer ticks on the deer the head of the deer was black.Super sadness to have all those ticks in my garage...
  19. As I've already found out, this crowd ain't fans of micros at all.
  20. I'm not looking to fustrate folks.I realize 90% of micros are in the city. When you live in town of 1000,and it has two stop signs,a general store and a post office in town on the main road,it doesn't leave much city to hide a micro in without going near businesses. There's also one cache in the center of town already(Being a multi).I just want to come up with a good 4 or 5 rated cache, and there's plenty of woods to hide it in. It just seems like every idea you come up with someone has done it already. Thus bringing me back to my original post of the "I give up..it's out on the lawn" cache.
  21. If there's one thing I've learned from starting this topic is that everyone hates woods micros. All have their reasons, but they're all united in hating them. However this thread and another one I've been reading have given me a great idea for a cache.
  22. Yeah I was looking at them again on Tiger Direct, the cx might be the better way for me if I go with Garmin.Still unsure with the Magellan choice though.I like the XL,but the 500 is good too.
  23. Yup,can't be done.I wanted to change mine and had to setup a new account.I'd suggest doing it as soon as possible before you have 100 some odd backlogs to change.Fourtunately for me I did it when I was at 7.You'll also have to adopt your own caches and TB's/Geocoins.This is all done through the reviewer that approved your caches. You'll have to backlog all your own finds. If you've got a premium membership they'll transfer that to your new username as well.
  24. I had just got to thinking about that when I get home. My first cache is an easy one,but I think all the local cachers have done it already...maybe I could turn it into a multi?Puzzle? While I enjoy any cache really,I don't want to be the guy who's known for just sprawling BS caches all over. When I got started caching in June of 06,I checked out my area and it was thin. But like I said I want to be creative with them too.I liked this one because it's a fairly easy kid friendly cache. I like how this topic is kind of bouncing around but still staying on point.
