  1. Folks, the Yorkshire coin Icon is now up & running after a bit of a delay, apologies for that. As some may know the project is a joint effort between me & MikeG. I dealt with the orders admin, whilst Mike did the logistics legwork ( he thinks I got the easy bit:P ) . The sale has gone well & we have sold the bulk of the 500 coins, we are down to the last 50 or so of each now. If anybody wants any hints or tips on producing their own geocoin please feel free to ask. We have learned a few lessons on the way & would be happy to share. Thanks to everyone who has bought the coins, they seem to have gone down well & the feedback has been positive. Anyone who still wants one & has not placed an order should get a move on. Regards DaveH
  2. You're welcome. As some may know the project is a joint effort between me & MikeG. I dealt with the orders admin, whilst Mike did the logistics legwork ( he thinks I got the easy bit ) So any credit is equally due to Mike. If anybody wants any hints or tips on producing their own geocoin please feel free to ask. We have learned a few lessons on the way & would be happy to share. 3. We have just had word from coins & pins that the icon SHOULD be uploaded to GC today. Apparently the person that deals with it, has been at Geowoodstock for the last 2 weeks & we have been stuck in the backlog. Sorry for the delay folks & thanks for your patience, it's been frustrating for us as well DaveH
  4. The actual tracking code is PCQ*** which is the code you should use to log the coins. The last 3 digits are the serial number of the coin in relation to the series. I.e we had 250 gold & 250 nickel coins made & they have individual serial numbers from 001 to 250 respectivley, these are numbers for your personal use & do not form part of the tracking number. I think I've explained that ok.. but then again DaveH
  5. Yup! I saw that. I couldn't decide whether I should be pleased or p*****d off, I suppose that once the coins are purchased they belong to the purchaser to with as they please. It just felt odd to see it there. Especially when we still have a few left at the original price. They are going well though, I reckon that by the end of June they will have all gone.
  6. The Icon has been submitted to Coins & Pins, they have then to submit it for approval to GC.com when everybody's happy, up it goes. We have submitted it, honest, & we are as eager as everyone else to see it published, but it is out of our hands. We chased it up last Thursday & we were assured that it was all in hand. I can only apologise & ask for everyone to just hang on, it will happen. Dave
  7. Ah! I wondered how long it would take someone to spot that. The unofficial yorkshire anthem is "On Ilkley Moor Baht 'at" which translated from Yorkshire dialect means " Ilkley Moor without hat" The tune can be heard here Ilkley Moor Baht at melody & the words with translation are here Words The phrase"Wheear' as ta bin sin ah saw thee-Geocaching?" literally means "where have you been since I last saw you - Geocaching" I hope this explains a few things & I'm happy that you like the coins DaveH aka Black Pig
  8. Having driven this road (A17) many times on my way to the land of the one eyed carrot crunchers, I fully sympathise. I think the A17, 15 & 47 fall well inside the "no alternative motorway" category. go for it. After all, what's in a name? DaveH
  9. I can't see aproblem with extending the concept to trunk roads, the A19 has already got one. After all the A30 is the "motorway to the sun" let's keep it to dual carriage ways though, where there aren't any "real" motorway alternatives nearby. DaveH aka Black Pig
  10. Hi all, I've just done some long awaited maintenance to the MM home page & contributors list. Sorry for the delay, but work keeps interfering with the more important things in life If anybody is missing from the list, please let me know & I will update it asap. DaveH aka Black Pig PS we've still got a few Yorkshire Geocoins left, if anyone wants one, but hurry, our colonial cousins across the pond are snapping 'em up sharpish. Although they are whingeing a bit about the $/£ exchange rate
  11. Ah! It was difficult enough trying to get the Yan.., sorry Americans to faithfully reproduce a UK map as it was. They missed Flamborough head off at one point, so a bit of artistic licence had to be used. We originally were just going to have the map of Yorks on there, but then realised that it would be meaningless to the rest of the world, so we had an "artists impression" of the UK just to give some scale & orientation. Sorry about Teeside!
  12. The Yorkshire geocoin is now available for distribution world wide. We have approximately 300 left from an original run of 500. The coins are available in either Gold or Nickel finish with about 150 of each remaining. They are individually serial numbered & trackable at GC.com. A Yorkshire rose icon will be availabe soon for those logging a coin. Full details & pictures are available Here This is a limited run & when they are gone, no more will be made. Regards DaveH aka Black Pig
  13. We queried the lack of icon with Coins & Pins the minters. Apparently it can take 15days to get the icon into the system. Trust me there is one, & it will eventually appear. It is already on the coincodes wbsite if anyone needs a peek. Yorkshire icon DaveH
  14. Back in the "good old days" BB ( before broadband) when a Garmin GPS12 was the dogs danglies, it frequently took several DAYS to get caches approved. I am amazed that the mods manage to get them sorted so quickly of late. What's a few hours here & there anyway, take your time Lacto. you're no good to us burnt out Who was it who said something about "Quality not quantity..................!"
  15. The Yorkshire Geocoin that was launched last week at the Yorkshire Geocoin Jamboree event, is now available for sale via the web. Please see here for pictures , prices & ordering details. The coin is Trackable at GC.com & has its own Yorkshire Rose icon. I'm advertising it here first before notifying the rest of the world, I thought I'd give the "Regulars" first bite. Regards DaveH aka Black Pig
  16. In that case maybe you ought to get a few more cache finds (i.e more than zero) under your belt before you start commenting. I can't find anything in your profile or website (celebrity of the month ) that would qualify you to pass judgment on this cache.
  17. Having just returned from doing said cache in the company of Mrs BP, our 14year old daughter Piglet, MikeG, Poppy Walker & Freakboy. I can confirm that yes the cache is not for the faint hearted, it does meet the attributes & the criteria as listed on the webpage, and above all it is a FANTASTIC CACHE!. There are a couple of tight squeezes & you do need to be pretty flexible & agile. Only the ill prepared or inherently stupid should be in any danger, but I could list many caches even some set by the main protagonist of this weeks trouble, which would also put the same people in danger. The simple answer is that if you don't feel that you are upto or equipped to do this cache, then don't. That is your choice, you make yours & leave others to make theirs. Whilst doing this cache we also collected a bin liner full of rubbish including cans, broken glass & plastic sheeting. You would think that the caving fraternity would be a little more caring about their precious caves after all we do keep getting reminded ad nauseum that it's an SSSI. As a SCUBA diver it has always been my intention to set a cache that req'd you to dive to find the cache, If & when I do so, can I expect the usual supects to crawl out from under their armchairs & give me the same amount of grief that Matt & Eckers have had this week? <end rant mode>
  18. Eckers, Nil Illigitime Caborundum, or words to that effect. I'm sure someone will correct my latin The vast majority of us appreciate what you & Lacto. do for us. Don't let the obnoxious minority get to you. Come back soon. Black Pig & the rest of SY Cachers
  19. http://rutson.com/mm/ Ian, do you mind if I paste a link to your MM Map from the MM home page. Very impressive BTW, just worried about you bandwidth. DaveH
  20. We "did" Barcelona last October. We found that a lot of the caches had either been muggled, or were in gardens that were closed. It seems that they close the parks at the end of the summer to carry out maintenance. Many of the caches that we failed on have since been archived. We did the Sagrada Famiglia cache which quite literally was a toilet. It was in a small park hidden in bushes directly opposite the Sagrada, I have never seen as many condoms in such a small area & I build sewage works for a living! The Montjuic Castle cache is in a wood that is used by junkies & we saw numerous syringes on our way to & from the cache site. HOWEVER it isn't all bad, the Montjuic area is worth a visit regardless of whether you do the cache or not. I would take the cable car from the port area, up to the mountain & walk back down. The best cache by far was the Parc Guell multi, this is a must. Finding the clues takes you all over the city & the final cache location has to be the most spectacular view in Barcelona. If you are staying in the centre I can recommend The Gran Cafe Great food & stunning location DaveH
  21. Hah! resistance is futile Alibags of Borg. (you wouldn't bear a passing resemblance to 7 of 9 by any chance would you? STOP! ENOUGH of my mid life fantasies) Where was I? oh yes, we now have the end of the M90 covered thanks to Snaik, so that is the northern most. We could now do with the southern ends of the network closing up, so do we have cachers that can cover the ends of the M20, M5, M23 M62, M4 M9 etc. It's a bit like doing a jigsaw, get all the corners & edges & the rest fills itself in. DaveH
  22. Latest Motorway Mayhem cache is at the end of the M90. Let's see you deflower that one then Steve
  23. Now THAT is impressive, Could I incorporate it into the Motorway Mayhem home page somehow? I don't know what's going on with my email, I'll look into it. DaveH
