  1. So your solution is to make it even harder to find? I, for one, have my profile page bookmarked. The solution to use the search function on the homepage would never have occurred to me as I never go to the homepage (not since I first signed up 7+ years ago). The other solution resulted in seven mouse clicks and nine button pushes for me to achieve what used to be a single mouse click. This doesn't seem like progress. Out of interest, what percentage of active users complained about this particular link? I would assume it would need to be well over 50% to justify removing the function, or were the complaints just about the cluttered page in general and Groundspeak have decided what needs to go themselves?
  2. The functionality is still available on the site: simply go to the advanced search page, select "By Country/State", and then select the country and state of interest to you. You can bookmark the results to have easy access to the same search. As has been mentioned, we are completely overhauling the user profile and this work will be done in a sprint or two. At that time, users will not have mailing address settings listed in their profile anymore, so the link as it existed on the page would become less and less relevant. So a simple one click solution becomes a several step rigmarole, and no one bothers to tell us? This is becoming a right royal pain the... I'll just leave it there then.
  3. As an aside: has anyone noticed that the Geocaching page (/my/default) no longer has a shortcut to new caches in X (in my case South Island, NZ)? Is this to force us to read/use the email notifications? Anyone?
  4. An attribute that would be of more use in New Zealand is a "No data" attribute. Always frustrating as you approach a caching area with no offline maps saved and the map goes blank. Having said that it wouldn't work as those whole place caches with an *actual GPS* wouldn't know if data was available or not, and possibly wouldn't care if they did! I just understand that caching within cooee of a decent sized town will be possible with my phone and if I'm planning to go further afield it's best to load up the old ETrex (and take print-outs - Old School)! I've had no problem remembering my same day cache finds so far, but I AM getting older (Edited for spelling)
  5. Well done! I've downloaded the WhereYouGo app, downloaded a local cartridge and no luck. Blasted thing just won't run! I've followed all instructions (download using PC etc). Very frustrating. Using a Galaxy S3.
  6. Which directory are you storing the .gwc file you downloaded into? Are you downloading the "pocket pc" version using Firefox? originally it will go to a "downloads" folder, but then you need to move it to your "WhereYouGo" folder. Then when you open the WhereYouGo app, it should show up when you choose play. I've had the same problem. I've tried downloading it using my laptop first and moving it to the phone and also directly on my phone using ICS Browser+ and Chrome with Download All Files. Have moved the file from Downloads to storage/sdcard0/whereyougo/directory as instructed. No joy. Also saw a thread suggesting to change the file name (keeping the extension); no joy. Every time I try to open the cartridge in WhereYouGo I get the message advising there is no cartridge and I should download one to storage/sdcard0/whereyougo/directory. AAAGGGHHHH! I'm about ready to give up on the dadgum thing. Bahaha! I didn't actually SAY dadgum, seems a filter is in effect here, but I'm sure you know what I meant
  7. Sounds like the same process I go through with my Galaxy S3, although I download the file to my laptop and copy it to storage/sdcard0/whereyougo/directory I then open the app and hit start. It gives me a message that there is no Wherigo file available and tells me to do what I just did.
  8. I support the idea! I cache in New Zealand and by default the logs appear a day behind. Not sure where the servers are but as I'm trying to complete a 55 days caching challenge I either have to log at a certain time each day or go to my laptop and edit the date found on the log (which could make it look like I've cheated). I do prefer to log in the field so the option to set the date would be great (or for the date to be based on the date my phone is using, or based on the date/time zone for the coords of the cache... there are options here). Phew. Nice day out, must go caching
  9. After you draw up the list of Nearby Caches, press the phones Menu button and then press "View on Map". If you scroll away from the nearby caches, you can press the phones Menu button and then press "Search Here". One of the great things I like about apps with a "Live Map" is that you can be driving down the road and the app automatically populates the map with the surrounding caches. No need to mess with your phone and do a new search every couple miles. Hear hear. I've often said, as we drive along, "there....was one! Dammit!"
  10. I've spent over an hour looking for a thread related to this just so I could say "AGREED"! I've just got back into caching after a break and now use my phone rather than the ETrex. This issue has become my greatest bug-bear with the app. I only hope GS actually sees the thread (I emailed them from Google Play but their response was to send me to the forums).
  11. Not an issue for me as I only speak English, but I can see the value in the suggestion. I'd support it. Edit: added missing space between words
  12. Any word on when this might happen? Will it apply to the map on the smartphone apps (Android in my case, but I'm sure Apple users would appreciate it). I like to be able to bring up the map and see what's close, often geographical features (rivers, the estuary, hills) separate posted coords from the final meaning I might be close to the final one day but don't realise it.
  13. A similar suggestion would be the ability to show the label at the new coords. Some puzzles around here have the final some distance from the listed coords (or not far but separated by water or hills etc). I'd like to be able to see the solve coords on the map so I can pick up the find when I'm in the area. Edit: This kind of ties in with this thread: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=285926&st=0&gopid=5243444entry5243444
  14. Agreed. Of course I also live in NZ. I'm close to the Port Hills in Chch so a radius search can take me right through what's left of the central city or across Lyttelton Harbour and up Mt Herbert (not a trip to be taken lightly)!
  15. Agreed. Also: I use the GC App (Android) and often look at "caches near me" if I have a spare moment. At the moment puzzles and multis only show up at the listed coords. It would be great if the final coords would show up once we've entered them in the app, it would certainly help with some that are close but geographically separate.
  16. Blast! I, too, am in the wrong island, without much chance of getting up there. Would have loved to be party to this one, too.
