  1. Arrrgghhhh matey...

We made 250 Antique Silver coins for the Coin Quest game. These were given out to the first 250 players who placed.

Because of the problems we had with our server and our provider - some players had a hard time logging their final requirements...which caused quite a stir at the end. In an effort to be fair and try to award those who were competing for a final spot we tried to figure out some way to be fair!!

We had an additional 40 coins that were 'mis-struck' that we didn't know what to do with...so we decided to offer these to the next 40 players.

So...in answer to your question...290 coins were awarded - We've didn't count the number of buttons awarded...but they were NOT numbered <_<

Stayed tuned for our next Quest....

Happy Holidays and may everyone's New Year be filled with exciting Adventure!!

  2. If anyone signs up, let them know about the 2 FREE code retrieval sites out there... oakcoins.com and geocoinclub.com

(commercial link removed by moderator) also offers a FREE code retrieval service! We can also offer a variety of fulfillment services to meet anyone's needs!! Not to mention help folks make an "awesome" coin!! :P

  3. Sorry folks, our hosting service says the datacenter is down. No estimate of how long to get it back up. It feels like a mutiny is in the making and we are powerless to prevent it. All we can do is wait and see what happens.

  4. We all seriously need to get a life!   B)

    B) oh my gawd...I missed ANOTHER ONE....okay, from here on out you're on your own with the 'Coin Quest' game...I can't be missing out on all these deals!! I've been so busy adjusting times I didn't even SEE this coin....talk about getting a life B)

Seriously, I need one of these coins.....did anyone order an extra? Please let me know....I gotta quit this game stuff it's really interfering with my collecting...just kidding...but PLEASE will somebody give me a heads up for ONCE????

    Yikes B)

  5. Okay folks, looks like we're still having some server problems  We are in the process of trying to work it out...guess there is just to much ACTION for our little ole server to handle.

Once the server is up and running and you are able to get in go ahead and make your log - we will then go in and adjust the time to whatever your prior log time was. Please email us once you've made your log :D

Remember....it doesn't do any good to sit and hit refresh every few minutes, your best bet is to go out caching or shopping or whatever you have planned for the day, check in when you return and hopefully we'll have it back up. The amount of traffic hitting it all at the same time is really creating an issue - we really didn't expect this kind of response... so please bear with us here, we're trying our best to resume the game!!

I guess now that we have so many 'Quest' addicts we better be investing in a new server before we release our next game eh?

Thanks everyone for your support and understanding! We'll keep working on a solution and in the meantime.....go out caching!!

  6. I am getting the same errors. I am hoping that by emailing the log, they will be able to place the log in the time the email was sent so we can mantain our position.

Sorry for the problems guys, guess too many folks are logging in. Please email us and we will make sure to reset your time....we must receive an email from you at: games@thecachingplace.com

Thanks for your patience and understanding!!

  7. WOO-HOO!!

    Finished!!

    :D  :P  :D

good job, I finished as well but broke the thing in the process

Don't worry, it's all good....the captn can fix it!! It's the darn back button...gotta stay away from that one :D We'll get ya taken care of right away, once we fix it you'll be able to go in and log your final comments!

I guess til we make the program change remember...Don't use the BACK button use the LINKS!!

    Thanks!

  8. $4 for the shipping of 1 coin? What a total rip off. *Makes a personal note to not support that website*

I really hope you'll trade with me for your silver coin. After the whole :D thread you've become one of my geocaching idols. :D

:P Where on earth are you seeing $4 per coin shipping?

  9. Arrgggghhh Matey....the ship's crew reports a coin has been discovered...all hands on deck - tis a good job completed by EpiduralGirl - break out the grog and toast the first of many!!

    Good luck to ye all!!

    The scurvy crew!!

  10. I'm having a problem logging in my latest cache tonight.  I keep getting an error message saying I used the back button but I didn't.  I edited an earlier one because of an incorrect waypoint and now I can't log mine tonight and I had planned to get the rest of the requirements this weekend.  What to do now?  I haven't another one ready to log tonight as my cache has been submitted but not yet approved.  Any suggestions?

    Avast Ye Scurvy (edited by moderator) . . . . .

Please don't be takin it personal when ya sees the (edited by moderator) message. . . .

Most of the problems on our site be because of using the back button . . . .

To go back instead of using the links provided. . . . .

    When a log be posted a flag be set . . . . .

And iffen ya try to log again when the flag be there . . . .

The (edited by moderator) message ye will see . . . .

The way to reset the flag be to go to the page where ya kin choose yur cache type. .

Sum folks be usin the back button to get the page to enter yur cache info . . .

    To Type ahead their information . . . .

And use a different browser (or tab) to pick their cache type. . .

The problem be that the (deited by moderator) flag never gets reset. . . .

Ye must hereby be using the same browser or tab to both choose . . .

The cache type and enter the info.

Iffen it be speed yer after then simply type one letter for the cache name . .

And three letters fer the gc number. The comment can be left blank.

Yer time stamp will be set and then you kin edit yer listing and write the biggest gosh darn story that you want.

That reminds me. We wud like yall to make videos of yer adventures and write up great storys about yer happenins and send them to us. We want to put together sum dvds and books about peoples adventure with Coin Questing.

That be all fer now. . .

    Ye be dismissed ! ! !

    Say What?

    :mmraspberry: Well, alright then....plain english:

When you enter the cache information and hit submit it sets a flag. If you

try to submit the same information again you will get the scurvy message.

Going to the page where you choose the cache type turns off the Scurvy flag.

Usually the cause of getting the message is due to inappropriate use of the

    back button.

Now get outta here ya scurvy dogs!!!

  11. Just wanted to see if you could take a "gander" at GCNA09 - Where are the Swans

    (gander, swan, get it?)

Arrghh! Thee Captn gets it and it tickles his skelton crew. :D

no really, the cache was recently replaced as the first location was compromised. The new location is evidently in a small rock cave. There is mention of the word "cave" in the hint, as well as a recent log and the owner has posted a picture of the hidey hole.

I think it probably satisfies the requirements for #11 but can I get a verification before I make a special trip to it ?

Thanks for the great game, I'm having fun !

That be a mighty small cave matey, but it could be a good place to hidy your plunder. If yee can find the cache while fighting off the muggle hoards about thee place, you can claim the cache.

  12. From reading the posts I assume that the log entry has to be made first on geocaching.com and then at coin quest right?  (Geocaching.com seems to be having a lot of problems tonight.  Will put "for coin quest requirement" in log entry for future caches.

Also if a virtual was placed in 2003 it would qualify for either the virtual category #8 or the cache placed in 2003 #12, right?

Aye matey, tis true..ye be claiming it fer ye #8 or #12 but not fer both....

I have another pesky question please - maybe it's been covered elsewhere, but I can't find it...

In the post above it seems that you've said that you can log virtuals for other categories (like cache set in 2003), but I just notived the general rules state that except for category 8, any cache that contains a logbook will qualify.

    Please can you clarify?

    Thanks,

    Bambi.

Looks like we could be doin the double step here....by rights, there should be a log book to claim the cache placed in 2003 - now perhaps there was more to this quote as I don't see an answer to the first question...perhaps not - we've been known a time or two to be makin the wrong call - If this be the case, then by all means....you have caught us and so do as you will...

  13. I wonder is it too late to get signed up for this?

Of course it's NOT to late! Sign up and join in the fun, the reward should be the least of your reasons for playing.....the journey and the FUN may end up being your biggest reward!

  14. Anyway, I found one of these tonight also, and the final cache was missing. But in my case the cache owner said I could log it and appologised for not checking on it sooner with all the DNFs. It's just a hard cache anyway and even when it was in place, it always had a lot of DNFs. So he said he didn't think anything of it.

Anyway, since he said I could log it as a find, can it count for my 2003 cache or not?  I logged it as a note for now, but will change to a smiley if it can be used in the Quest.

He may let you claim a find but to get your map piece it is necessary to find a container and sign a logbook.

Be Ye Hereby Warned, The Scurvy Skeleton Is Out Tonite! ! !

  15. Okay, a couple of questions, hopefully not already asked and answered:

1- While out trying to get an FTF for one of the goals, I ran into a fellow cacher, and we searched together. Now, logging Co-FTF's isn't uncommon, but, the cacher I was with is also part of the Quest, and we both want to log it as our FTF requirement. Any problems there?

2- I didn't click on the links of all the goals we have, so I assumed that when I moved a TB, it was going to ask me for the TB name and number. When I went to log that requirment last night, the info I was asked for was the cache name and GC number. Since the cache I moved the bug to was the cache I used for my scenic requirement, can I enter those numbers again? I grabbed the bugs elsewhere, so the move was really independent of finding that cache.

thanks fer asking..don't think you'll like me answers...

1 - have already told folks NO on this issue..two players cannot both log FTF's

2 - each cache can only be used once as a requirement...move the little varmint to a different cache...not used as a requirement..

In the end each player should have 16 distint caches.

    Have fun!

  16. I went looking for a cache on the 18th it would have been for the Placed before 03. However when I got there the cache was missing or destroyed by fire. I asked the cache owner and they said it was missing. Would this be a find. I would say no since I did not sign a log book. But I had to ask.

    Richard

We think not, there was nothing to find...and you found nothing

We do hope you're having fun playing!

    Thanks

  17. Q1 - If a virtual is placed in 2003, can it count for the 2003 cache placement since you didn't specify logbook cache only for that description write up?

Q2 - A 4-part multicache around a historic building has the 2nd stage at a statue of a confederate soldier. Can this count for the statue requirement?

Q1 - Aye Matey - go about yer plundering...

Q2 - Arrgggg....does a bear, ummm, I mean a pirate hang off the side of his ship..

  18. Oh Oh, problem.

I originally signed up on my laptop yesterday. Now when I tried to log in on my PC, it says password not correct, tried twice. I tried to then get it it by requesting with my email address and it says that email is already in use by another player, uh, yeah, that would be ME!

    Email has been sent.

  19. ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!

    DREADFULL IS THE NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Me first mate informs me that some selfish scurulous scum eating malodorous filthy pack of pirate thieves have . . . .

Oh wait a minute, Pepper didn't want us doing that anymore. . . . sorry.

    Various Questions

Were you really considering stopping the game because of cheaters?

HAR DEE HARR HARR!!! Can't an old pirate have sum fun! Crafty old pirates like us like to scrape the barnacles of the hull now and then to speed things up. Some people just can't take a joke. . . . sheesh!

Did hackers get an advance copy of the treasure map?

Sonny Boy, This ain't our first trezur map game. We know how easy it is to see the source of images in a web page so we set up a little trap. In this case it was a harmless joke but watch out. Next time it could be deadly!

Did these hackers get any information from the phony map that would help them get a head start?

Well, they saw squares 1 and 2 because that was the bait to lure them in and make them think they were pulling a fast one on us. Squares 3 to 16 were just of a blank scroll with no map information and only contained code symbols that were part of the trap.

But maybe it's an advantage to have worked with the code symbols. In that case you should all have the same advantage.

I really, really want to see that phony map! How do I see it?

OK, OK, a lesson in pirate crafitness and sneakery is in order. A fart smeller. . I mean a smart feller would look at the web page with his or her first map piece and would view the source to see where the map image was loaded from. He or she would notice the the map image was called map1.gif and all the other map squares were called unfound.jpg. OOOH. . . . that gives a greedy grimy pirate an idea!

    hmmmm

    a little scissor work

    ...

    ..

    a little scotch tape

    ...

ok enuf already. go on. get outa here. But don't forget to clean out all the officers chamber pots and swab the decks before you go. This place is a pig pen

Thank you for all your hard work on this game!  Have you had to quit your day job?

No but they may show me the door if I'm not careful!

If only I could make enuf money from the pillaging. . . ah that wud be the life.

I had originally submitted it at around 12:45pm MT (half hour ago)

We'll get you taken care of.

  20. Just tried to submit a find on one of the requirements and got back a database error, and now it won't let me submit again for 24 hours. The one I tried to log doesn't show up, doh. I sent a problem report to their site contact email.

We may have bumped into each other as I was uploading an update to the web page. Your time has been reset so you can try again. Also, let me know what time you originally tried and I will adjust your time accordingly

  21. We have a series of caches called "Gone to the Dogs" a few miles down the road. I was wondering if one of these might meet the requirements for the Dog Cache.

    What say ye?

A cache that contains poetry about an actual dog is ok.

I have also wondered about the dog cache requirement. If the cache's owner has the word dog in their name, does that count? (Don't know the owner's personally so can't say if they own a dog!  )

No, just having the word DOG won't do it. There must be an actual canine involved somehow.

  22. website down?

does anyone know if they are having problems with the website cuz i can't get it to load up.

We made some changes to the leader board last night that hopefully are not causing a problem.

Are you able to get to some pages and not others?

What kind of browser are you using?
