  1. Option 1 was our first gut reaction until we started thinking a little more. How would someone new to the game react to an email asking them politely to remove a picture no matter how carefully worded. Maybe we are just over thinking the issue.
  2. We need to ask advice for this cache a second time. “Tripple Swing” GC18WNT After a number of DNF’s it was suggested in the forums that we raise the difficulty level up. We did. The difficulty level is directly related to the fact that the container blends in so well with its surroundings. A finder who is fairly new to geocaching recently posted a spoiler to the gallery. A good picture but definitely a spoiler. We have no doubt that their intentions were good. They just like taking pictures of cache containers. So do we if it does not give anything away. We see a few options: 1. Email politely to the finder and ask them to please remove the picture and explain why. Problem. We don’t want to discourage this new geocacher from taking future pictures. 2. Drop the difficulty rating back down. Problem. For those who have found it at the higher difficulty rating it messes with their stats. We are not big on stats but we know some are. Kind of a fairness issue for past and future seekers. 3. There is the option to let it ride and do nothing. We could use a little advice. Yes. This does allow anybody who looks at the gallery because of this post in the forums to see the spoiler picture. Thats okay. If you are willing to spend the money on gas to visit our neck of the woods, email us and we will meet you there to swap some tales.
  3. Skamania County Washington Very cool idea.
  4. Thanks Markwell. Very funny. I cannot wait to have been cachin so long that I can edit a log three years after the original log. Yeah for newbie solidarity.
  5. Congratulations. Lasting a year is a milestone in it's own way. Today also marks our 1 year anniversary for geocaching. Set up the account on the 14th of March and logged our first cache on the 15th of March. Obsessed is putting it mildly. Our workshop is turning into a geocache laboratory for camo jobs. We hope the novelty never wears off. I know that we are in much better shape for this hobby and would like to thank all the volunteers that make geocaching so much fun for us.
  6. Our son is moving from Vancouver to Seattle in two weeks. Noticed there are a few cachers from seattle area that will be at the Vancouver Cache Machine. Please feel free to give advice on housing and locations in the area. Any input would be appreciated.
  7. Sorry, I would love to make your loss my gain. If I may be of assistance do you have any fairy or karma coins. I would love to see your list. P.S. My husband is all for the coins so maybe getting them when the gettin is good works for me.
  8. No worry January14. Your post made for some great reading for myself and other cachers to enjoy. Thank you. Thanks again for all who helped me with this project. Below is a link to the my geocaching paper. http://w3.gorge.net/delude/Geocaching/1fai...rlgeosurvey.pdf
  9. You have no idea. Husband will try to get paper on his works server in PDF format. Bunch of geocachers work with him. Thanks Starbrand for the PDF idea. Happy cachin. 1fairygirl.
  10. Thank you to everyone who took my survey. I have finally finished my paper and my class. I got an A- on my Geocaching Paper so I guess it wasn't too bad. I am not sure how to make the paper available to those of you who wanted to read it. Anyone have an idea? Thanks again, 1fairygirl
  11. CONGRATULATIONS!! Here is my guess. Dec 23rd 7 pounds 8 ounces 19.5 inches of pink, squiggley, feed me, then change me now please.
  12. 1.how many geocaches have you found? 138 2.how many geocaches have you hidden? 12 3.how many people do you know go geocaching with you? 8 4.how many times have you gone on a long trip just for a geocache? That depends on what you think is long. We often go about 50 miles because we live in a remote area. But we are planning on going 500 miles to Attend the GeoWoodStock in California in May. That will be our longest trip. 5.how many geocaches have you found in just one day? Once we found 13 caches in a day. But usually we just get one or two because we like hiking. Getting there is most of the fun. 6.how many items have you traded? Too many to count, always picking up fun swag to trade. If you were talking about coins or tbs we have about 20 and half are out travelling. They seem to have slowed their journeys with the onset of winter. 7.how many times have you gone geocaching with out a gps and found the geocache that you were looking for? Only twice in the beginning and we found the caches. Does it count if your gps dies on route and you still found it, because we have a couple of those. And what about the caches where the coordinates are soooooo off that you might as well not had a gps, because we have a couple of those. Once we even found an actual Letterbox when we were out looking for a cache that ended up missing before it was ever first found.
  13. I am now trying to narrow down my subject of geocaching. I have alot of good material and not sure which direction or what slant to put on my paper. Does anyone know of School that is doing any studies or research on geocaching? My teacher wants a least one scholarly source for citing in my paper. I havn't found anything yet, but just started that part of my search. Please keep taking the survey the data is only as good as the responses I get. Thanks to all, 1fairygirl
  14. I am kinda' new to caching, 137 finds. But we just ran into our first coin klone last month. Although the person tried real hard to make it look like the original coin it was not the same for me. I know that I buy coins that I keep in my collections because I think they are too precious but I don't send out klones. I save them to take to cache events so people still get to see and discover them. Sometimes I will buy two identical coins and keep one in my collection and one I put out for traveling.
  15. Thank you to everyone who has participated in the survey. I have read some really great stories. I have not had one person yet say they prefer hiding. No one out there likes to hide better than hunting? We had the best thrill after placing our first cache....We saw it had been published during the night and went out caching for the day and on our way home we decided,on a whim, to swing by the newly place cache and low and behold there were two cachers there. They had just laid hands on it and were going to sit on the nearby bench. I am not sure who was more excited us or the FTFrs. Love to keep hearing all of your stories. I still have about two weeks to run the survey before I actually start my paper. Keep Cachin'!
  16. Hello to All! Thank you so much for participating in my survey. Sorry I havn't been on in the last two days, something seemed to be wrong. I wasn't sure if it was my computer or just the geocaching website. Anyone else having trouble in the Pacific Northwest? I really appreciate everyones help with my project. I just turned in my first paper and now I can start making a spreadsheet of the responses I have so far. The responses have been really helpful and I think the paper will be fun to write. 1fairygirl
  17. I am taking an English Compostion Class this semester and I need to write a research paper. Of course what do I want to write on GeoCaching. My husband and I started geocaching in March 2007. We currently have 137 finds and 8 hides (we are working on placing a new cache series out in the Columbia Gorge). Would anyone be willing to answer a few questions on geocaching? Would love to hear about everyone's caching stories. 1. How did you first hear about geocaching? 2. Tell me about your first cache? 3. Have you had any bad/scary experiences caching? 4. What is the #1 reason you geocache? 5. Do you prefer to hunt or hide? 6. What was your favorite cache place? Why? 7. What was your worst cache? Why? 8. Have you ever attened a cache event? 9. Tell me your best caching story? Thanks to anyone and everyone who will help me explore caching in depth with other players. 1fairygirl
