  1. I hope the whole thing turns out well for you. Please do let us know as anything develops. I just checked on it, and the listing has been removed. I guess it was bogus after all. Doesn't really matter to me since I don't like the 450 anyway, I was going to flip it for more money if I got one.

  3. Consider looking for a good used or refurbished unit. You pay a big premium just to get one that comes out of an unopened package. The GPS Garage Sale forum here would be a good place to start.
  4. They all pretty much have a bunch of the normal features, except for those that don't.
  5. I cancelled my payment. I want to see if anyone gets one. I have trouble believing he has 60 units to sell. Even big vendors like Amazon and REI never have 60 in stock, and these are supposed to be refurbs. If he collects $60 each from 60 buyers, that's $3600. Then he disappears, I think. W.C. Fields was right, I'm afraid.
  6. Well, normally buyers don't give feedback until they receive the item they bought, and since all those sales happened yesterday and today, nobody has received one yet. Have you never used eBay?
  7. So did I, but that doesn't mean anything. It was just an automated notification from "seller_auto@auctiva.com". No human sent it.
  8. No hurry, I've got 10 days to pay. I normally pay immediately, but this one I want to watch some first.
  9. Actually, it says "Item Condition: New" one place and "Refurbished" in the green "Product Details" box farther down the page. It also says "Packaging: White Box", which I assume means a generic box rather than the OEM Garmin box. I'll be surprised if any of the (57 now) buyers ever receives one.
  10. Garmin GPSMap 62S is what I finally settled on, and I am very pleased with it.
  11. I cancelled my PayPal payment, and emailed the seller with my "too good to be true" concerns. I'm not required to pay for it for 10 days, I am going to wait and see if anyone else receives theirs. Although I have a 100% rating, I may be willing to take a no-pay hit on this one.
  12. Between those two, the Oregon 450. But whatever you buy, buy it from some place that has a liberal return policy, because personally I have owned and am not fond of either of those units.
  13. where do you see that? seller is a Member since: Jun-23-11.... Right side of the listing, under "Other Item Info". Right now it says 48 have been sold. I have a bad feeling about this. Oh well.
  14. I'm not a fan of the Oregon series, and I am not normally a gambler. I ordered one of these, though. I doubt I will receive it, but since I paid through PayPal and have EBay Buyer Protection on it, I don't see how the guy can hurt me. If I do receive it, I can always sell it for more than $60. Maybe I'm a fool though.
  15. I do all my caching trips on foot, hiking, so I use a Camelbak "Alpine Explorer". It has a 100 oz. bladder (I drink a LOT of water) and can carry a lot of other stuff comfortably.
  16. 4. When it's on a bicycle mount, try to always ride in a direction where the GPS will be tilted at the right angle so you can read it. And yes, I always wear sunglasses when I am outdoors. Shouldn't a GPS be readable when I do?
  17. The sunlight readability issue of the Oregon high resolution display won't be apparent looking at the units in the lighting of a Best Buy or Gander Mountain store. If buying one, buy it from someone with a good return policy like REI or Amazon so you can evaluate it outdoors under real world conditions for more than a few minutes. Unless of course you intend to use it handheld, indoors, to navigate Best Buy stores.
  18. There are already quite a few threads on here about this. Did you read any of them?
  19. For paperless, the PN-60. But for every other reason, the 60csx. I had the PN-60 for less than a day and took it back. The Topo software was terrible, the screen too small, the battery compartment with the two long screws you have to screw all the way out was poorly designed, the interface cable is difficult to attach/detach. I really didn't like it at all.
  20. I just put a Zagg on my 62S yesterday. I had bought the Garmin soft case for it, but it's just too clunky trying to operate the buttons through that thing. I am very pleased with the way the Zagg went on, and from all I've read it's going to be real hard to scratch the 62S's screen with that thing on there!
  21. I always carry one of those little Swiss Army knives, whether caching or not. It has tweezers in it and I have always been able to remove logs using those.
  22. Garmin does make an auto mount kit for the 62S. It's the same suction cup & ball and socket thing the Nuvis use, and comes with a power cable that plugs into the cigarette lighter socket. Grossly overpriced though at $49.99: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=15428
  23. If you have a microsd card in it, try taking it out and then restarting without it.
