  1. Connect the OR to your Mac, open the mounted Garmin drive. Find the Garmin file, open it, then find the file called GPX. That is the file you want to drag and drop all of your GPX files into. Eject the Garmin drive, fire up the OR and you are ready to cache paperless and all! I have been caching with a Mac for years, I do not need no Ball S.A.K software!
  2. As per GS and it works for me. 4. "We recommend that you delete the "geocache_visits.txt" file on the Colorado (Oregon) once your Field Notes are uploaded."
  3. We did a long Wherigo cartridge with it a week or so ago, and no crashes, it must be the cartridge. The builder tested it and uses a PDA to do the Wherigo caches. Is the software that different where it could make the garmin CO and OR crash but not the PDA? I use a Mac, so I have not checked out the builder yet, so I have no idea.
  4. Tried a Wherigo today, it kept crashing and turning off at the first zone. Tried a hard reset but kept getting the same shut down at the same point. The demo Wherigo worked fine. Anyone else have trouble with Wherigo, or might it be the cartridge? Ideas?
  5. I decided to gamble and go for the OR 400T for $20 more. I got my OR on Friday and am quite happy with it. I spent all Saturday country caching (60% PNG and the rest were short hikes in the woods). Out of the 26 caches, I only busted out the 60csx twice, but it didn't help in either case, one I DNFed one and the other was just evil. In both of those cases the OR and 60csx were telling almost the same story, they were only off my a couple of feet. There were a couple of caches I found that the OR said was still about 40 feet away and one it said was 50 feet away. There were a few caches that the OR took me on top of. I did notice, if I did not hold the OR in proper way (like lying flat in the hand as one would do to see where it is pointing you) it would start drifting off like mad. That might have something to do with the patch antenna. I did not see any "D"s with WAAS mode turned on, but I only checked twice. I used an alkaline battery (Duracell Ultra) and only had battery life go down by one bar after the unit being on during my day of caching. The only other thing I noted was a random shut off once the first night when I selected to see the accuracy page from the main menu. It has not done that again since then. I like the OR and I LOVE the field notes! Now, I just with the nearest Wherigo cache was not a 3.5 hour drive away.
  6. Oregon 300 in stock here http://www.gpscentral.ca/products/garmin/oregon-300.html I couldn't wait either (for the 300), so I went for the OR 400t for twenty dollars more.

The 200 is now called the Humpie, 300 = Coho, and the 400T = Chinook T. The Eastern Washington Edition Contains POIs to all of the "You Pick" cherry picking places. The Eastern Washington Edition smells like sage brush.
  8. I just got off the chat window from a GPS company that also likes frosted flakes. Here is what was said: Me: Hello, I am wondering if there is a new ship/release date for the Garmin Oregon 300? Thanks in advance! Dude: release date is 11/03/08 Me: As in November, no longer in the beginning of August like the description states? Brandon: that is correct Dude: If you were to purchase now your wait time would extend into November Me: Is that because you guys have a crazy back order on them, but the unit will be released by Garmin before hand. As is people who ordered them in July may get them in a couple of weeks or no one will get them until November? I hear there are some people in Europe who have them in hand already. Dude: nope, this is across the board, Garmin has been having trouble filling orders so now they do it in batches, those who purchase in jury and onward will be on the list for Nov. batches Thanks brings me to my next Question: There is some one selling the Oregon 400T for ~$520 on Amazon ("This Item Ships same Day!! Brand New Full Factory Warranty") is that deal to good to be true?
  9. Garmin Connecticut: Must be a member of "skull and crossbones" to buy this model.
  10. Has a flashing yellow light that blinks for hours after you have changed course to the right. Will continue to blink until another Fl. GPSr is near and blinks to it to stop blinking. has a built in feature that forces the user to slow down and look from left to right to left to right and then over their shoulder as they pass their waypoint. Also, in addition to above, may cause the user to stop in the middle of the road, without warning. comes with sand in it whether you want it or not. Can locate all interstate exits where Indian River Citrus is available or for shipping. Comes with built in POIs that displays all exits that have discount theme park tickets and that have 10 for $3 Florida T-shirts. The Garmin Florida also has a page dedicated to let you know how many miles/exits you have until you reach Cafe Risque.
  11. Garmin Florida: Only 10% of the parts are native Florida Parts, the other 90% are old parts from other Garmin States GPSrs.
  12. Now, GPSCity is displaying expected date as August 11th. I just heard, from one of the big GPS websites, that the last they heard that the OR 300's ship date is 08/03/08.
  13. Garmin Florida: Where the old batteries from the Garmin Ohio go to spend their last two hours of life. In order to be a true Garmin FL, it must have been made in New York. The Garmin FL has the same accent as the Garmin New York, but has a sun burn. The Garmin FL comes with a mouse.
  14. When I first saw the Oregon I just about soiled my pants. Now, my B-day was about two days after the Oregon was set loose on the public and the next occasion for me to receive a gift will be in December. I cannot wait, so I'm just going to buy me one, but my dilemma is between the 300 and 400T. I checked the Wiki and other comparisons charts, and the only real difference I see is the Topo chart. I own the '08 Garmin Topo maps DVD. So, it is better to save 100 smackers and get the 300 (plus I like the orange color) and just upload my current Topo maps or is there some advantage worth 100 smackers that the 400T has that I am unaware. Thanks in advance for your opinions!
  15. It came up on my weekly LoBot mailer, so we know it is for reals! 5. GeoWoodstock VII (Mega-Event Cache) (GC1CG5G) Location: Tennessee, United States (374.3mi N (602.4km N)) Date: 5/23/2009 by GeoWoodstock 7 Committee
  16. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.5 square miles (1.2 km²), all of it land.
  17. I have a feeling that that may not be a real listing. First of all it says it's in the smallest town in Tennessee. A Search of the area find a whopping 3 caches. While it is a beautiful location I don't see the pre-requisites for a GW. Hotels, camping, caches!!! The listing owner also only owns this cache. I think that only GS can make an event a Mega Event, so that is some sort of proof. I'm just glad it is within driving distance for us.

  19. I would go back to pay off my credit card off every month. I did notice that since I paid my car off, I spend about the same money a month as my old car note.
  20. Mrs. Duck had made a GPSr stuffie called "Garvin the Explorer". Garvin is a GPS that was born with an itch to travel. Will you join him on his journey? Born on February 8th in the year 2008, Garvin opened his eyes and said “My, what a big world this is!” After a lengthy discussion with papa GPS, Garvin decided his life’s ambition is to go and live with a nice person who can whisper him tales of adventure. He measures approximately 6.5-inches tall x 2.5-inches wide, which is the same size as a life-sized GPS-receiver like his papa. Garvin’s face is an original 1906 topographic map that has been laminated for protection from the elements. Garvin is a perfect gift for the active geocacher, gadget lover, and travel bug in all of us. Lovingly handmade, this little guy does have small parts that may not be suitable for young children. For more pictures you can visit her Etsy Shop: sweettweelab.etsy.com This little guy is selling for $10 with $2.50 shipping in the US. She will make every effort to have this shipped within two or three days. Email me for a quote on international shipping.
  21. I ran out of the spice season all last week, so I bought a new bottle. The spice company decided to upgrade the caps from a screw top to a flip top. So at dinnertime I was spicing up my cod enchiladas with my brain on autopilot. Someone forgot to update my autopilot's firmware, cause instead of flipping the top I unscrewed the top and dumped about half of the bottle of season all over cod enchiladas. So after doing a big of shoveling I enjoyed a very salty dinner. My wife thought is was so funny she had to make a scrapbook page about it.
