  1. Have you tried exporting the caches as a GPX in MacCaching then dropping them in your garmin?
  2. Yup, I'm finally getting "D" on my status bars and on cloudy day too!
  3. I gave the guy my money, I hope he didn't skip town!
  4. We dun got roped in and hogtied! Thanks Geo_Bandit!
  5. Got my PQ at 3pm yesterday when I was 100 miles away from a computer, to bad I cannot upload PQs via my iPhone. They did not come in the order that they were ran, funny. I worked off an old PQ, and ended up finding a cache that I already found last week. Glad to see it back and up and running!
  6. I have Gmail and no PQs showing up in my in box either . Grrr
  7. Oh boy, I can play with my Oregon again! (I hope)
  8. I am now on my third Oregon 400t and am scared to load any GPX files into it because my first two units did the whole 'start up screen fade of death' thing. I am quite aware of the fix mentioned on the Garmin Oregon wiki with the whole reloading of the 2.4 firmware thing and have read a few forum posts with people who have fixed their units The problem is that I use a Mac. I tried said fix on the Mac using Parallels Windoze emulator, but that killed my first OR. The second unit did the start up fade just after one week. I tried holding down the power button and doing the web updater (via mac os) but the updater could not find the attached GPSr. The dude at Garmin didn't seem to try very hard to help me get the unit back up and running he just wanted to swap units. Now, I am on my third OR. I thought if I put the GPX file on the memory card, if I were to get the fade away, I might be able to just remove the GPX via removing the memory card and get the unit working again. But, I cannot figure how to get the unit to read the GPX file from the card and show the caches and do paperless. Does anyone know how to preform a fix for start up screen fade of death using a Mac, know of any better ideas, and/or know how to get the memory card thing to work? Thanks, August
  9. I got my replacement OR last week, updated to the latest firmware, uploaded a GPX, and had a great time caching on Saturday. On Sunday I deleted the GPX and "geocache_visits.txt" file, I then uploaded a fresh, GPX and a Wherigo cartridge all at the same time. Once I tried to restart the OR I got the fade away at start up again. Grrrrr On Monday I called Garmin and we were not able to do firmware reload (via a Mac), so I'm now waiting on my third unit to arrive. What Firmware should I use in order prevent this issue, until they come up with a new firmware that fixes this issue?
  10. A quick update: I tried the recommendation on the 6th post, via my Mac using parallels, after my third try the GPSr died forever. I called Garmin and they stated that I could do said method using the web updater on my Mac. But it was two late the OR was already dead, so we enjoyed vacation caching using our 60sc and 60scx (that is why I never sell my old units). I did get our replacement OR 400t in the UPS today.
  11. Yup, done all of that, I was just hoping for a magic answer cause we are 3000 miles from home. Good thing I have two more GPSr.
  12. Help, we are on vacation and our new Oregon (with 2.4 firmware) decided that it wants to crash before it fully turns on. I get the Garmin start up screen and the little words appear on the bottom ("loading the waypoints, tracks, etc.") then the screen fades away. I have attempted a master reset but I guess it powers down before the reset page comes up, in other words it won't let me do a hard reset. The same thing also happens when I plug the OR into the computer. Earlier in the day, the GPSr worked fine. Then we got on an airplane, and I turned the OR on a couple of times to see if I could get a fix and it worked fine. At the next layover, the GPSr worked like a champ, it got a fix and everything. Then when I tried to turn on the OR in the plane during the last leg of our trip, that is when the problem started. Is there a way to reset the GPSr (some hidden button or something) or reinstall the firmware without needing to turn on the unit? Any help would be most appreciated! Thanks in advance!
  13. Will the Colorado and Oregon be able to connect to my Mac (Older version: OSX 10.3.9) for paperless caching? YES Are there any other GPSrs, besides the Colorado and Oregon, that allow you to paperless cache? I dunno If I decide to stay with my current GPSr (Yellow eTrex), what's the best paperless set-up for the mac? I have a Zire palm pilot. http://home.alltel.net/tbone/macgps.html
  14. Q 1. Is the Mac compatible with the 60csx meaning can you download way points. YES Can you download updates through Garmin. will I need any special drivers/software or anything like that. YES http://www8.garmin.com/macosx Q 2. If not is the Oregon 400t compatible with Mac. YES Q 3. Has anyone had any personal experience with the Mac either one of these units I have a Nuvi 750 and have had no problems, and able to do all the above. YES, I currently use both units, one for streets and one for out of the car. The software (Garmin and 3rd party) has come a long way since I first started caching. I do not need no stinkin' GSAK. PM me if you want to know what I use.
  15. FYI: Amazon dropped their price for the CO 400t to $406. I am glad that I skipped this model, I am very happy with my OR! It is funny to watch my friend with a CO scamper off in the wrong direction and start thrashing in some bushed 40 feet away as I quietly sign the log.
  16. Just as a quick test I ran out to my front yard to see what kind of accuracy I could get in TS Fay with the 2.3 update. After about five minutes I got 16' but no WAAS. The touchscreen works great in the rain! As a side note, I only have seen the "D"s once. The OR was in my lap as I was driving (no moon roof) and for Ships and giggles I decided to to check the status screen at a red light. The next time I checked the status, all of the "D"s were gone. The OR does get me very close to the caches, and the few times I busted out the 60csx to help me find a cache, the 60scx didn't help me.
  17. Are the ones with basic info using crazy HTML and other bells and whistles on the GS.com cache page?
  18. The butt end of my pen makes a great Stylus for my OR that can be used with heavy gloves
  19. Were you given a code or an e-mail with instruction? How did it work?
  20. I registered my Oregon over a week ago, but still have not received any info about my free 30 Groundspeak Premium membership. I know that I already am a premium member, but I'll take a free 30 days. I emailed Garmin, but have not heard from them. I can only find the Tech support number. Anybody have the scoop? Thanks
  21. I have been using MacCaching for awhile. The current version seems to work well with my 60 series GPSrs via usb, but sometimes I have to reboot the GPSr so that the program can find it. I used to use a first Gen Legend with MacCaching, but a lot of the times I would need to use an older version. Do you delete found or older caches off of the GPSr, sometimes the GPSr will not tell you when it is full? Do not go to windoze, sometimes it can be a pain to find what works, but it is worth it on the long run!
  22. I get this whrn I try to call up garmin.com 'OK The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later."
