  1. Hey don't forget my brother BiggeekJimbeau! He's a Reno-ite, or whatever it is you guys call yourselves
  2. This is an easy one that you can get to after a short walk from the golf cart: Off Tour in Avalon Biggeek Ben
  3. I dunno, you never can trust those seniors! If you'd like, I can stash my paperback copy of "Digital Fortress" in Central Coast Seedbank and you can hang on to it for a while (no rush--it's a good read). I can stash it in there around 9:00 AM tomorrow at the earliest. I'll keep my eyes open for the E. Garison multi. Gotta beat those Plunketts!!
  4. Hey speaking of Ft. Ord caches, keep your eyes open for a new CODED cache poppin' up soon!
  5. Hey BuckyDef, I'll see what we can do. I've been telling my self I'm going up to Jack's peak to get all those caches, but...you know. LIFE is always interfering with my caching! Touchstone You DIRTY DOG! 'Murietta' kicked my rump (almost) I was up there for almost two hours. I crawled all the way up to 24, and I couldn't believe my ears when I heard someone back at my pack/bike say "woah, were did this come from?" I made a big scene of a lot of coughing and sniffling, to alert them to my prescense, but by the time I got back to check on my bike, new lap top, GPS, digi-cam, CD player, and 128M scandisk they were gone. What a relief that all my junk was still there! "Who needs knee pads and gloves" I said. I'll just wear this sleevless shirt and shorts. Sometimes I can be slightly stoopid. I'm covered in scratches. All complaining aside. What a great cache!
  6. Today's the day! Phil's Event Looks like we'll have a good little group: JPP crew, Touchstone(?), Hotrod crew, surveyvest, and Coralgeo dwn from Santa Cruz. We're looking forward to good times and great eats! Be there or be square!
  7. Hey Geo_cats, Just so you know, there's already a CCGC (Central Coast Geocachers of California). We've been around for about 2 years. But most of our members are in the Monterey Bay (from Carmel to Santa Cruz)as opposed to SLO-town. As far as I'm concerned we're not looking to be rivals or anything But I thought this might affect your decision of calling yourselves CCCG. CCGC for life baby! Biggeek Ben
  8. Date Change! If Touchstone can't make it...what's the point! Back to Thursday Aug 26th!
  9. Alright! We're all set up, just waiting for approval. If anyone cares to proof read, I'm open to constructive criticism. An Evening at Phil's
  10. Is the construction of a geocache a MUST at event caches?
  11. I'm thinkin' Monday or Thursday at about 7 PM, but maybe Saturday? I wouldn't really be hurt if it were just a handful of local cachers that could make it. Or maybe I'll just bring enough biggeeks to have a good time regardless Okay, I'm going to decide on time for sometime next week and post it. "If we it, they will come" Phil's website I'll have to roll up there to get to coords and maybe snap some pictures, they don't seem to have many good ones on their site
  12. Although maybe one of the Live music night's would be better. I've never been there while they were playing. Can people still talk or is it super loud.?
  13. Yep, We still haven't made it to any event caches yet. Did you say Wednesday nights were good for your crew? If so how 'bout the 25th?
  14. hey hammerjane, A lot of the great caches in Monterey have been 'muggled' lately, but any cache by Touchstone, or the Plunketts or us are pretty safe bets. Have a great time in Monterey. If you go to the aquarium, do yourself a favor and go as early as possible...oh, there's also a small micro called MBA in front of the aquarium. It's temporarily out of order, but maybe it'll be back up.
  15. dadgum muggles. That's some tough luck Touchstone. It must have taken some work to destroy Euclid and Nemo. It was hard enough just to sign the logs! I hear you on the Snowy plovers though. I felt a bit ashamed when I was huntin' Euclid, because those dune plants and animals are pretty fragile. The whole area that Dora was stashed in has become pretty seedy. Did you here about the latest body that popped up in that area, from some Marina gang activity? Maybe you can replace it in East Salinas
  16. Sure, I think the types may be defined better on the home page, but here's my 2 cents. Basically there are 4 different types of caches 1. Traditional Cache: This is usually an ammo can or a similarly sized tupperware container. The minimum that a cache needs is a log to sign, but almost everyone tosses in some trinkets to swap for.(Here's the last one we found by Westlog Griffin's Lair 2. Multi-cache: The only difference here from the traditional cache is that, the player that sets this cache up will have the finder go to multiple locations. At the different locations (with there own coordinates) the hider will either set up a puzzle for the finder to solve to get the final coordinates or just give clues that lead to the final location. (Here's one we hid called Johnny Cache) 3. Virtual cache: These posts are actually just coordinates that someone has posted of a site that they think others should see. Also, physical caches are banned in certain state and national parks. I think all national parks, but I'm not certain.(I just did The World's Largest Artichoke" today...you can't die without seeing it!) 4. Mystery Caches: I like to think of this as the cache all for the creative caches people come up with that don't necessarily fall into the other categories. But PUZZLE caches also fall into this category. And those are caches set up that require the finder to solve a puzzle (math equation, riddle) (Here's one we found by a buddy cacher called Touchstone: Dora's riddle) Everyone who plays this game was a novice once, who cares Hope this was helpful. I got a little creative with the pictures and all, but what good is a hobby if you can't WASTE time on it! Biggeek Ben
  17. Sounds good. I'm leavin' for Japan for 18 days here, next Sunday. But after that I'll get serious about planning something. I think the key here is CASUAL, no stress just some geeks havin' some good food and talking geocache shop. I've been pondering a Euclid like cache to set up in Fallon, NV for quite some time. And I'd like to pick your brain. Well I didn't want to call you out or anything I think the cache needs a little maintenance. From what I hear, the cache was moved into the deepest part of the 'pool' and the caribiner was replaced by a strong knot I'm in!
  18. Well it looks like the Monterey Bay thread dropped off, as usual. Of course with only 3 people that really check (you know who you are) that's to be expected. Anyhow! I just wanted to see if any of the Monterey Bay cachers think an event cache in late August, around the 20th or so, at Phil's Fish Market would work. We always seem to have prior engagements for the event caches, so I thought we could just host a little impromptu one of our own. What d'ya think? Biggeek Ben ATTN: Touchstone!
  19. Hey DeDee! How's the article comin'? When can we expect to see the product of all your hard work? I hope BiggeekJimbeau was helpful!
  20. Woops, NORTHERN CALIFORNIA cache. I thought it was a long trip from Reno. I think my bachelor party was a little too fun. (if you know what I'm sayin'....wink wink gulp gulp.) This cache is right off of 80 in TAHOE national forest. I dare you to try and go get this one Touchstone I double-dog dare you! Don't let winter beat you to it!
  21. Waterfall Jump Check out my brother BiggeekJimbeau's awesome new cache. The voyage to this cache is the destination. As this area, this time of year, is flippin' gorgeous! Biggeek Ben!!
  22. I think it was a one shot deal. But maybe if enough people were interested another order could be placed. Touchstone should know...he bought a bunch
  23. Check out my brother's caches. He goes by BiggeekJimbeau. I don't let him put out LAME ones Here's one PMCO 9020 (Upgraded) Team Biggeeks Rules
  24. Biggeeks Henry and Roger! We'll try to take some more ACTION shots! Let's see your dogs in action!
  25. Myths About DEET Some of the myths and the truth that dispels them, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and its Re-registration Eligibility decision for DEET. 1 · Myth: DEET is highly toxic and causes cancer and genetic mutations "In studies using laboratory animals, DEET generally has been shown to be of low acute toxicity. It is slightly toxic by the eye, dermal, and oral routes and has been placed in Toxicity Category III (the second lowest of the four categories) for these effects." "DEET has been classified as a Group D carcinogen (not classifiable as a human carcinogen)." "DEET is not mutagenic under the conditions of the test assays. ...the results are all negative." · Myth: DEET is toxic to and causes seizures in children "Based on the existing reproductive and developmental toxicity data, there is no evidence that would lead the Agency to believe that DEET is uniquely toxic to infants and/or children." "Seizure coinciding with DEET use can be expected, given an estimated 15,000-20,000 afebrile (occurring without a fever) seizures in children (aged 0-19 years) estimated annually and an estimated 17 million children using DEET perhaps 10 times a year." "Given only 14 to 32 cases since 1960 (the first case was reported in 1961) and 50-80 million people using DEET each year, the observed incidence of recognized seizures is about one per 100 million users." "There is no compelling information that exposure to DEET is causing an appreciable number of seizures, and data from animal studies do not support or predict symptoms experienced by children exposed to DEET." · Myth: Because it is absorbed through the skin, products with a low concentration of DEET are safer "Products that are formulated by diluting concentrated DEET with a solvent such as ethanol have a greater dermal absorption than products that are undiluted. This point is illustrated in the human dermal absorption study (MRID 42578501) in which a 15% DEET product yielded 20% dermal absorption while an undiluted DEET product yielded 12% dermal absorption." · Myth: Products with a low concentration of DEET are safer, especially for children "The scientific data reviewed by the Agency for DEET do not support the claim that certain concentration DEET formulations are safer than others. Also, there appears to be no correlation between the reported cases of seizure and the concentration of DEET that was used. All direct and indirect claims of child safety (e.g. "...for children," "...for kids.") must be removed from DEET labeling for those products to be reregistered." Summary "The use of effective insect repellents provides certain public health benefits. Application of DEET insect repellents to the skin and clothing can help prevent bites from ticks and other biting insects that may cause disease. Lyme Disease may develop from the bite of an infected deer tick, and mosquitoes can transmit malaria, yellow fever, dengue fever, and encephalitis." "The Agency has concluded that DEET insect repellents will generally not cause unreasonable risk to humans and the environment, However, because DEET is: (1) so widely used among the U.S. population, including children; (2) is one of the few residential-use pesticides that is applied directly to the skin; and (3) has been thought to be associated with incidents of seizure, the Agency believes that it is prudent to require improved label warnings and restrictions for DEET products. The agency believes that such common sense measures will be especially protective of children and other individuals more sensitive to chemical substances." http://www.buggspray.com/myths.html
