  1. Yes, I have many challenging caches and many of them are visible/touchable from a safe distance... if you dont sign the log you dont deserve that smiley...
  2. Thank you for pointing this out. There may also be those who engineer a way to retrieve and replace the cache without climbing the pillar. Just as there are often multiple ways to solve a puzzle, there can be multiple ways to overcome a physical challenge like this. The point of this cache is to have the climbing "experience", not to sign the log. I guess it will be the loggers loss if they decide to "cheat". (Note that I wrote "loggers" not "finders") BTW this container weighs 30+ pounds and is 3 feet tall... it will take a lot of engineering to get this container down from the pillar and back up, without a person on top! You can see the container from a mile away!
  3. Simple enough.. Put the cache at the top of the pillar. If they can't get up there to find it, they cannot log it as a find. Problem of getting a picture of yourself climbing.. Unless you bring a friend to hold the camera, Most cameras only have a 10-20 second self timer.. Unless you're a monkey, or a cat with a german shepard chasing you, You are not going to climb that pillar in 10-20 seconds! Even a monkey might have problems with the 20 seconds. (Being chased, Maybe...) I think the reason ALR's are being stopped, is because some were getting pretty outrageous.. (like some of the reasons here in this discussion are teetering on the loony!) REAL Example: (Meaning the difficulty values MUST be 1 , 2, 3, 4, then 5. ) Can you honestly tell me you can find all 5, without traveling all over the place (remember, Fuel still isn't cheap!) then go back to this one, and log it? If you do, You're in better financial standing than I am. And, you've found that one cache that asked that requirement.. It could be clear out into the middle of a dense forrest, with all kinds of tradables... Are you now telling me, Just because I just this one, that now I have to return the tradable item, and erase (or scribble-out) my entry in the log book as well? ALR's like getting a picture with the items in the cache, I would classify as fun.. They're not making you go out of your way to meet outrageous requirements.. (Okay, the logging a cache naked does seem to be pushing the decency limits. Especially if it's middle of winter, and it's 10 below!) I logged one cache, where it had a ALR, the placer wanted you to send them an email with what you could see on a plaque at GZ.. At the time, I wasn't a premium member. and I didn't read the ALR requirement til I got back online.. But, I did post a picture of what else I found there.. (A snake in the stone wall just behind GZ) As far as I know, the log still is on the page, w/the picture. Haha... there is no requirement of taking a picture of yourself climbing.... just of you being on top. A finder already has easily managed that all by himself. Look: Tada!
  4. Have you considered asking for a new classification for Psyco Caches? Not a traditional, not a ?. You and Vinnie could be starting a whole new class. We should!
  5. Ok I've got a cache that requires you to climb a pillar in the middle of the river... the cache is all about getting on top of that pillar. In order to avoid people claiming a find that have not climbed the pillar... like getting the log book handed down to them, the only alr is to take a picture of yourself on the pillar. This cache is about conquering a physical challenge. How do I avoid people claiming a find that have not climbed the pillar?
  6. I used to live in Ambler... not anymore though, I am about and hour north. If you are willing to drive 1-2 hours check out my caches and I also have some great public bookmarks.
  7. I find it sort of funny when somebody posts a major event about his/her cache like being featured on TV. Which in imho is a major honor. And the only replies are complaints about "premium" caches. People... this is MAJOR and very COOL. The CO is obviously very excited (as he should be) and put a lot of effort into this cache and now its being "officially" recognized. How about giving the guy some probs?
  8. i almost bought that container myself at walmart until i started to play with it in the sports department. the hinges(clips) are fragile. not sure if it would hold up outside in the elements for long. a clip even broke in the store. No problems with the clips here but those containers leak.... I have had 2 of them out for about a year and they both started leaking pretty early on. Not much but just enough to be annoying and ruin swag.
  9. The "stars" are on gun club property....
  10. Most of these "stars" have hunting stands in them but the "stars" are truly massive and at least one of them the center is down in a gully that has a creek running in it... but no hunting stand and if there was one at some point it would have had to be VERY tall.... like 60' - 70'. No doubt the "stars" gets used for hunting now but it just seems that there is probably more to it... I dont think that any other gamelands in the area have these "stars". If somebody knows about others like these they can post coords?
  11. Thats the first thing we thought, but there were no traces left of mining and we are very familiar with old mining locations/operations.
  12. My guess there was a log yarder at the center of the stars and used when the land was cleared, ah, er, farmed. Sorry for my ignorance.. but whats a log yarder?
  13. We were out geocaching today and decided to explore these weird markings (check the satellite imagery from google): N41° 32.052 W75° 29.488 What we found at most of these "stars" where hunting stands.... but that just seems to be a lot of work to shoot some deer... thats a lot of woods cleared out! Did these "stars" have a different purpose before?
  14. I have another one.... this was weird and scary: A few months ago we just finished hiding my "Impossible" cache , we paddled there by canoe so we decided to float down the river to an unofficial pick-up/launch area that located under a big concrete bridge to be picked up by a buddy of mine. Now keep in mind that this area is very rough and any vehicle without high clearance should not be there... they actually use the area for off-roading. We arrived a little early and "landed" the canoe, I walked up the bank a bit, noticed 2 men in suits and one in a wife beater having some sort of meeting.... they came in a new Lexus and a new Jaguar... not the off-road kinds of cars! Did I tell you these guys were American-Italian... This was a scene straight out of the Sopranos... Something did not feel right... and I had the feeling I was witnessing something I was not suppose to. I quickly walked back to the canoe and was ready to get back in the water to just get out of there, then decided to wait it out a few minutes till my buddy showed up in his truck. He drove past those men and down the bank to pick us up.. this particular area is even rougher ground. This is where its gets scary.. as soon the truck is done backing up the 3 men jump in the shiny Jaguar and flew down the dirt river bank and blocked us in... At this point I was like ooohhhh sh%#&, but continued to load the canoe in the back of the truck.. The men stared at us for a few seconds and then they backed up the car and allowed us to leave, maybe because there was a fisherman/witness down by the water...? I still wonder what happened there but I cant figure it out, the whole thing was very strange.
  15. Hi guys, just a little video to show the great places and adventures Geocaching can take you. -->> <<--
  16. A few weeks ago I did a 6.5 Mile Multi Cache in an area that is full of old coal mines. I love to check out these "holes" so while we went from one stage to another we checked out every mine that we spotted... at least until this happened: I spotted a mine entrance down in a gully, I was very intrigued because I could see one of those old wooden pillars supporting the entrance's ceiling. The height of the mine was only about 4 feet so I crouched down and turned my flashlight on... just to shine into the eyes of a HUGE BEAR!!! I know you are not suppose to run but I ran like I never ran before. My friend who was with me at the time thought I was joking when I yelled "BEAR!" and ran off... He followed me when I was halfway up the hill and realized I was serious . Luckily the bear did not follow us and we continued on our cache a bit shaking but stayed away from any new "holes". (At least for that cache. )
  17. For geocaching, go with the 60csx. I have a Nuvi also and thats what I used to start out, but its not rugged enough for the elements and the battery life is too short. I do use my Nuvi to take me to the parking coordinates of a cache. Nuvi- for driving 60csx- for caching
  18. Your listing, your cache and your data.... but owned by Groundspeak.....
  19. Was just about to post that I have a bunch bookmarked..
  20. I got some extreme caches..... How about this: Or:
