  1. Well, from that we know Charlie is still alive. And Jack has not been to the main camp this entire season. Yet.
  2. I've not used GSAK very much, but I have the waypoint name be the %smart, then for the note space I have %code- %name. The first time I did it I had the code after the name, but if the name was really long, it cut off part of it. I use the GCxxxx to look up the cache in the field on my PDA. I did not know the 60 series could take a longer name, that ought to make things look a little nicer.
  3. I have a 60CSx and I use a cheapy Glisson while I'm driving/in the car. Went from 20' accuracy to 7'-8' while driving 60-70 MPH. I also get every satellite locked on full strength with WAAS correction. Combine that with a 12v adapter and it's awesome to use in the car, even if I'm just sitting in the parking lot deciding which cache to go to next. Got the antenna for $20 and a Garmin 12v adapter for $17.
  4. My county, Coconino County, is about 18,617 square miles. Second largest in the Union. Not everyone is in puny little counties.
  5. I'm using GPXSonar now, but I'm thinking of switching to a palm for my caching needs. Why? Because I can get a cheap palm that takes an SD card and disposable batteries. I like my PPC, but it uses Li-Ion batteries, if they go dead there is no way to replace them in the field. Plus I'm going to Denmark in about a month, and I won't have a way to charge the batteries. But I can take/buy AA/AAA batteries pretty much anywhere. At home I can use 2500mA NiMHs. I actually have a question here, does Cachemate display the last few cache log entries like GPXSonar does? I find them to be very useful to have in the field, sometimes they are better then the hint for finding stuff.
  6. The Jeep background has a little flag in it. http://www.geocaching.com/goodies/jeep/1_1024.jpg Although it's backwards from how a flag normally faces, it's how I pictured it.
  7. Well. It installs, but when you open the program it still opens the old mapsource. Garmin won't let you point the installer to a different directory. So the old Topo installs to the root of C:/ while I honestly can't find where the new one went to.
  8. I found an older version of the Garmin Topo West at a used software store. It installs fine, but it is so old it does not have an option to upload via the USB port. It wants a serial port. It uses Mapsource version 3.00, copyright 1999. I can't seem to install the latest version (6.1x), it says it installs but it always opens the old version. Is there some other way to install them or manually put them on the SD card? They are unlocked so I really just need to extract them. I have a 60CSX if it makes a difference, using WinXP.
  9. I took it in early this morning, ended up waiting about 40 minutes to see an officer. They took my info and the purse and I went on my merry way. About 40 minutes later they called me back to let me know that they contacted the owner. Someone broke into her car the day before (Saturday) and stole the purse. They took the wallet and coin purse, ditched the rest where I found it(Sunday), and were already using the stolen card. At least she got her keys and sunglasses back.
  10. Well, you could try to get a blank white flag then do an iron on transfer or something of each of the colored panels of the logo. You'd need a very big image or a vector file of the logo for that. Or, if one of you can sew, the logo is pretty simple.
  11. I'm currently vectorizing a photo of a GPS satellite, if it scales down well enough it might make nice art for one side of a coin. I also am planning on seeing how a nice rubber stamp could look, stamp a blank, a little hand coloring or embossing maybe. It could be vastly cheaper then buying them custom.
  12. What do people think of the custom wooden nickel Sig as a trade item? I personally like them, and was thinking of getting my own. But would they be regarded as too "cheap" an item? I'm still pretty clueless on good trade items that don't cost a fortune in the long run.
  13. I found a looted and ditched purse today while caching. Had sunglasses, keys, and a couple of checkbook registers (with checks) in them along with some other misc. stuff. It was scattered all over in this little thicket of trees. I gathered up what I could, marked a waypoint, and plan on dropping it off at the local police precinct tomorrow along with the coordinates. The checkbooks have the name and address of the owner, so they will be able to contact her about it. The last check was written three days ago, so it could not have been stolen very long ago.
  14. Thankfully the 60csx lets you set the time zone by city. I have to reset all my atomic clocks to the pacific timezone. There is no DST in Arizona.
  15. I just got a 60CSx and just tweaked some Euro Metroguide maps to autoroute. However, being located in Arizona I can't seem to find a way to test them. Something about no roads across the Atlantic. Is there a way to have the GPSr move its current location in a demo mode or something? I'm taking a trip to Denmark in April, and I'd like to try and test them before I go.
