I attempted to download the latest 2.57 firmware for the Explorist 500 (European is the only 2.57 I could find). However, their site now requires you to log in before downloading, and it realizes I only have a North American 500LE registered and won't let me download. Can anyone who has been around the Magellan camp for a while speculate as to when they may release the 2.57 firmware for the North American models?

There is light at the end of the tunnel... I got an email yesterday saying my battery/AC adapter bundle has shipped. Finally!

I've been looking into buying one of those T720 batteries off of e-bay. What do you think of it? Are you getting comparable battery life to the original Magellan battery? I can't really comment on that since I'm still waiting for the Magellan-branded battery to arrive. I have a 500LE so it never came with a battery. All I know is the T720 battery lasts a heck of a lot longer than 3 AAAs. From what I read, the high capacity T720 battery (model number ends with a B, like SNN5225B or something like that) is the same as the Magellan one in terms of capacity. Do a search on here for the actual model number.

Update: I just called their customer service... Magellan expects to receive more of the battery/adapter bundles by the 2nd week of May. I'm not holding my breath. Since I already have a T720 battery, time to look at buying a PSP AC adapter too.

I think I'm going on week 7 or 8. Time for customer service call #2.

I managed to find a "Download GPX" link on their web site, but it appears you need an account/subscription to actually get it.

I called Magellan this morning about the battery/AC bundle. My order has been backordered for a full month. The person I spoke to said "You should be receiving the item in the next 2 weeks". I'm guessing "2 weeks" is the standard statement for something on backorder. Has anyone else called recently and been given any more specific details as to when these things will be available?

They must get them about 5 at a time... my order still says backordered, unknown availability.

I was wondering if anyone owns Magellan's DirectRoute (v3 North America) and could tell me if it includes detailed maps and POIs for Hawaii? Magellan's site does not state what it covers (other than North America). Sometimes GPS software only covers the "mainland", even if it is listed as a "US" product.

Same here. The GPS Store just got the 500LEs back in stock and I received one yesterday. It had the Topo sticker and I successfully unlocked it for $9.99.

I was planning on purchasing an Explorist 500LE and Topo 3D separately. However, I've read in some places (mostly here) that at least some 500LE boxes come with a coupon for Topo 3D direct from Magellan for $9.99. Does anyone know if all 500LEs come with the Topo 3D coupon? Does it say this on the box somewhere?
