  1. Each metal part of both elements is still there, body and the other parts are missing and solders are rugged. So, definitively these two components have been there...
  2. I solved that problem easy! Every Garmin distributor have exhibits of eTrex devices. Exhibits don't have mainboards and screens - under outer glass they have picture of eTrex in action. They have working rocker button, microUSB and all other parts which are integrated into outer plastic cover. I recieved eTrex Vista Cx exhibit, identical with my HCx. Yes, because solder is there, two elements are ripped apart definitively! I lost them, didn't pay attention when I was opening device In fact, I changed front plastic, and than I noticed problem on mainboard.
  3. Hello, Few days ago, I managed to broke my Garmin Vista HCx. Outer glass and battery compartment are cracked (inner screen is OK and working). GPS turns on, but can't find any of satellites. I opened it and here is what i found: Speaker plastic cover fell from its place and somehow was stuck in mainboard, supported by cracked rear cover!!! Of course, according to Murphy's law, two SMD elements are gone I couldn't find these elements, they just vanished! Here are pictures of broken mainboard of Vista HCx: If somebody have opened his GPS, or have dead Garmin, please measure these two smd elements (if you can't, every modern electronic service center can do it) and mail me type and values: alazovic@gmail.com Or if somebody have dead Vista HCx and is willing to send me this mainboard - I will send him reasonable compensation! Let's extend life of this GPS together Thanks in advance, alazovic

  5. My Vista HCx with 2.80/2.80 behaved perfectly last weekend - 3 days trough woods, small canyons and rough terrain. The only problem I experienced (and 3 other friends with Colorado, another Vista HCX 2.30/2.30 and Vista HCX with 2.60/2.60) was altitude error (weather changed in the morning). On 600mnv, barometric altimeters started with 488-510mnv, but GPS elevation was OK. I and Colorado guy corrected it manually, and other 2 vistas corrected it automatically in 10 minutes. In 3 days, my vista didn't have any drifts (precision was always 2-5 meters), but Colorado struggled in first canyon and drifted 100m from my track I'll try to get tracks from other GPS-es to compare it. L.A.
  6. My Vista with 2.80/2.80 is behaving perfectly. I didn't experience that odometer/moving time problem, even in poor receiving condition. Signal seemed stronger than combination 2.70/2.30 L.A.
  7. Here is direct link for region file update on Garmin web site: http://www.garmin.com/software/GPSChipsetT...onFile__280.rgn Regards, L.A.
  8. I know that I'm crossposting, but this is very important I think Does anyone have any suggestions about how to find chipset 2.40, 2.50 and 2.60? You can easy get region file V2.60. First downgrade to V2.30, than erase all in dir c:\documents and settings\(your name)\Local Settings\Temp (first enable "show hidden files" somehow!) Now upgrade your GPS through webupdater. When it ends, you will have new dir in c:\documents and settings\(your name)\Local Settings\Temp - "Garmin updates" or similar. In that dir you will have file Update.rgn - It is Region file V2.60 I'm not at home and can't attach my vista HCx region file till tomorow. But if you can wait, I'll send it tomorow... --------------------------------- --------------------------------- IMPORTANT!!! If any of you have Vista HCx upgraded at home to V2.40 or 2.50 and NOT upgraded to region file V2.60 yet, there is a possibility that you have that earliler version of regon files stored in c:\documents and settings\(your name)\Local Settings\Temp !!!! Look at your dirs, mailby some of you still have older Update.rgn file. Attach your update files and I'll compare it, but say if it is for Vista HCx or Legend HCX!! I have only Vista... Regards, L.A.
