  1. I only post when I never read the thread I always don't agree to ? Crap I poosted again.
  2. Also, don't know if you have the manual, but here's a link... Etrex Owner's manual I learned by starting on page 12 and taking my time learning. You will be okay, just start slow.
  3. I dunno about you guys, but it seems the more I find, the faster I get. I have learned to look where I usually would not look.
  4. I dunno... If I am not with my son, I don't really find much joy in trading at all. Problem is, I show up with a pocket full of cool goodies (or a bag) and I find a bunch of golf balls. I kind of lost the joy of trading up because it began to feel more like I was doing cache maintenance. But I have noticed that lately caches are looking better probably because of efforts like this. You go brother ! I love you man. You can have my bud light.
  5. The other day I was searching for a cache and it got absolutely no reception at all. Does that count ? In the few times it did, it was 100 feet or more accuracy. I gave up.
  6. Morbidity check... If I win, I will send you a picture of the "surprise" I found in Vegas. Link to the log here...
  7. Welcome to the fun. Just don't run across any dead people while caching.
  8. Love my Etrex Legend, but in fairness, I have used nothing else.
  9. Etrex legend here. I do not use WAAS. It has never really helped me. It eats batteries like hell.
  10. You can use mapquest if you know the URL Oh yeah ! I know it, and now so do you! http://www.mapquest.com/maps/latlong.adp
  11. As for me, I really have alot of respect for the volunteers... (Oh yes, did anyone note... They are VOLUNTEERS !) Anyone who does what they do and puts up with the abuses they do deserves alot of credit. As for me, I will simply abide by the rules, and hope others do the same. Rules are necessary for society to work together. Some people believe that rules should not apply to them. For those people, I suggest going out and hiding a cache and then mailing the coordinates to themselves via post office, and finding them. They will be much happier. =) Seriously though, thank you to all of the approvers who volunteer their time to put up with this unruly crowd. You are underpaid and under appreciated. But we love you just the same !
  12. Ah-ha ! Another thought. What to do when you encounter wild animals such as deer, coyote, bears, poisonous snakes, etc... That would be useful for many cachers. Also, dangers of geo-caching such as heat stroke or exhaustion. What a marvelous idea you have, and a useful addition to the caching community. Is this magazine online, or is it a real mag ? I want a subscription.
  13. I found a dead body just south of Vegas. I would be happy to write an article as a guest writer about it, and dealing with the authorities. Just say the word.
  14. Actually, the first people to show after I dialed 911 was the fire dept paramedics... A carry over from my old marine corps day, I was standing with my hands behind my back. When the FD ambulance approached, the fellow rolled the window down and frantically yelled at me to show him my hands. (I don't blame him, you never know these days.) They surveyed the situation, and then called back and let the office know that there was nothing that could be done. (Evidently they had come in case my prognosis that he had been dead a few days turned out to be wrong.) Well, half an hour later the LV Metro PD showed up and took a look at he corpse and said to the two FD paramedics. "I'm so disappointed that you guys couldn't revive him." The officer mentioned that they often use humour to deal with these situations just to keep their heads together. Not to be disrespectful. I have to admit, I chuckled for the first time since I arrived. It helped to make me relax. I was pretty creeped out by it.
  15. Actually, they took the cache because that's the reason I stopped. Essentially, it was a lead in case I were ever to be suspect, or another cacher who may have signed the log. At least that's what the detective said. It's possible that they might have only photographed it. But they definitely impounded the logbook.
  16. I just do my caching in the desert in Cali... Not much rain here. Try moving to southern california.
  17. By the way, by ATV, they meant I was in an all terrain vehicle. (My beloved friend, the Jeep.) Click here for Jeep Someone brought up an important point in that the press does not know how the man was found. I think I will issue a press release and let them know how I found the body. Any opinions ?
  18. I have to say, there was nothing fun happening there. I almost yacked about 10 times. The police impounded the cache because someone else had found it the day before. You are right, I am not much of a geocacher, but I came in from the highway. Most people familiar with the area would have come from the access road about 500 feet past the fence. P.S. I hope you don't think that I was poking fun. It was a freaky experience that I would rather not repeat.
  19. I was in vegas for a few days on business... When I was coming home, I pulled over to find a cache... Instead, I found a dead man. Read here What is your most insane story ?
  20. Hee Hee... I just went onto a stamp collecting site and trashed them for using adhesives.
