  1. I think you will find the reason for the slowness of GPXSonar is because it does not use a Database, it uses a GPX file which is in reality an XML formatted flat file, so there is no Index to improve its reliability, basically it is an XML renderer. The more records you add the slower it will become, as the whole file requires opening to search etc.
  2. There does appear to be far too much paranoia on here!
  3. Is there a problem here? No! Here is my reasoning behind this. 1 Rules are rules, has one been broken? 2 Is it causing you distress, if so ignore it, no point in making it an issue, this is no good for both physical and mental health. 3 Hate nothing but bigots and celery, they are the only thing which can harm you, surly this Geocache is causing you no harm 4 There are bigger world issues to get heated about, put your energy there, not here. In summary this is no issue, it is someone who is making it an issue. Calm down and chill. Pippa
  4. Just to clarify, I don't disagree with this particular statement. As a long time member of GLASS I willingly and proactively abide by their Code of Conduct too. I also drive my L200 at many off road centres around the country and have enjoyed exploiting the capabilities of myself and my vehicle to the full (and beyond sometimes) - something that can't (and shouldn't) be done on a public highway or byway. Out of interest, Pippa, what do you drive that's so much better than any other 4x4. Unless it's a custom built competion truck of some sort. Edit : Just had a look at your profile and it seems you have a Bowler Wildcat, which is not exactly a production 4x4, more a custom built competition truck, so it's hardly fair to compare other 4x4s to it. Good luck with finding caches along green lanes, I'm sure you'll enjoy the more than adequate abilities of you particular vehicle - much more capable than needed on any green lane you're likely to find a cache. I also own a Defender and a Mk 1 Landy, both unmodified with the exception of winch and snorkel, I can also drop by own engine and replace it in a few hours!
  5. I'm not biting, not sure if Nick CrazyL200 will either, Pippa They are not true 4 x 4, they are pickups that have been made to look nice, I would challenge any L200 owner to follow a competition course, last time I was a Tong near Bradford, I personally wiped out a MSP and his L200, also I sorted out his engin after it failed in the deep pond there.
  6. Alibags, just a tip from someone who knows how the human mind works, don't rise to the bait! There are many who interfere with others business, these we refer to as busybodies, they usually have a disorder, and I refer to this disorder as a "Donkey's Bottom". It is my view, anyone is sad enough to impose their thoughts/opinions to a 3rd party, without first consulting the 1st party, are wholly insecure individuals. We often see this in the school playground, and it’s a trait which follows some into their adult life, they tend to prey on weak and feeble individual(s), usually to gain respect from someone, including their targets. Now just keep your comment, and don't let the person wind you up, or they have won. Pippa
  7. As someone who often travels on green lanes, all I can say is that the "Chelsea Tractor brigade" do bring shame to the 4 x 4 world. Many of them could not handle a 4 x 4 in an off road situation. From memory, over the last 5 years, I have personally winched 9 L200s, 7 Jeeps, 4 Hyundai, and many other pseudo-offroad vehicles. Most 4 x 4 drivers think that because they have a vehicle that is stated 4 x 4 in the handbook that it's designed for offroad, most are not suitable for anything harder than a potholed track. Even the Disco and Freelander are not really built for anything more serious than a slightly muddy field. Also I have found that many 4 x 4 drivers believe that because they have a 4 x 4 that they are good drivers offroad, how wrong they are, driving offroad takes skill and courage not found in other driving. I can only agree with the original author here, and if any 4 x 4 drivers disagree with me, then I feel you are also not in the true spirit of green laners, who actually respect the environment, and drive to their ability and NOT beyond. Pippa
  8. I have just started caching and looked for PPC software doing a Google search, and found Smache which is free and can be downloaded at the following link http://www.cyancanyon.com/software/smache/ Pippa
  9. The speedometer is an indicator of speed, they are usually not accurate normally displaying up to 10% difference from the actual (true) speed, this measurement is set in the positive plain therefore you should not be speeding if your needle is on the 70 MPH mark on a motorway, and will likely be driving at ~ 65 MPH There are good reasons why they are not accurate but they are many and varied, from changes in tyre size, pressure and worn out transmission. Car manufacturers, do not want you pointing your finger at them in the any prosecution offences that you might be involved in. Pippa
  10. Tetanus can be a problem, but more worrying is that Hepatitis B could be caught far easier off thorny bush or scratchy scrub. I Orienteered for several years at regional and national level, and The British Orienteering Federation forbid partaking without your legs being covered. They recommend vaccination for Polio, Tetanus and Diphtheria at 10 yearly intervals, but take the Hepatitis risk really seriously. This was due to several cases where orienteers died in the late 1960's and 70's You can be vaccinated against Hepatitis B, but I would rather avoid catching it, than using vaccination, as Hepatitis B is far deadlier than HIV, as it is far more resilient once on a cold surface. 11. It appears that I have made a bit of an entrance on here, never mind! I finally managed to find 2 caches this weekend whilst visiting my Parents in North Wales. I will be logging them ASAP. I hope that all geocachers are not like this. Pippa
  12. Mr Pineapple The Wildcat is just purely for "FUN", it is so powerful and handles as good as I give it, which believe me is 100%, as I have driven Rally since I was 18. I have the Wildcat Signature block in mine, so is very fast, probably too fast for most, but driving is my passion, and fast Offroad is so thrilling, I love the buzz of nearly bending the fender :-) I will look up these events, and if they fit in with my heavy work schedule will attend 1 or 2 Pippa
  13. So Mr Pineapple, what is your favourite caching vehicle? I hope it would not be my XKR that is strictly a run around! I will see if suitable offers of caching arrive, without smutty undertones! What are events? How do I find out about them? Pippa
  14. Hello Fiona, The Nutters, thanks for the advice I have posted a note in that forum. Pippa
  15. New here and from Alderley Edge in Cheshire, but often stay in London with my work in Banking. Help and advice would be most welcome. Pippa
  16. The cache is call Heron's Rest, which is just to the east of Macclesfield, and Mr Stead you are cheeky :-)
  17. Yesterday I went out with my 2 children to find our first Geocache, we did not gfo that far only over to Macclesfield area. But could I find it? No! Did I choose a hard one to discover? Or was it just being a beginner? The area is nice though and that was a plus for our day out. Pippa
