  1. Great idea! I like Look-out Stops better for the name. Or maybe Scenic Parking Spots? Probably the former is better since the latter sounds like a parking spot that just happens to give you a good view
  2. Although there is an existing Benchmark forum for the Geocaching.com site, many Benchmarkers have gone the extra mile to help the NGS in their recovery efforts of monuments around the United States. Where the benchmarking site is just for fun, offical monument recovery has more distinct requirements for a "find." For this reason we have established a secondary forum. Here are some general (but not all-inclusive) topics you will see in this forum: Questions for the NGS regarding: Reporting momument recoveries to the NGS site Accessing NGS data sheets. Ideas for the NGS outreach program Archived datasheets Highly technical surveying questions The NGS database (including operating status) ...or any other questions that pertain to NGS. I hope this becomes a very helpful location for your monument recovery efforts! - Jeremy
  3. For all monument recovery folks (a.k.a. Benchmarkers). I wanted to belatedly pass on this letter from the Director of the NGS, Charlie Challstrom. I hope this will become a key location for asking questions and discussing monument recovery for the NGS. Jeremy ----- December 7th, 2004 Charlie Challstrom, Director, National Geodetic Survey Dear Jeremy Irish, It is my pleasure to encourage your establishment of a forum specifically for people interested in supporting the National Geodetic Survey’s (NGS) work. NGS is very appreciative of the work done by the many people who, on their own, search out our monuments and then submit updates to the National Spatial Reference System (NSRS) based on their findings. We recognize the importance and value of this work, and want to thank this dedicated community. NGS looks forward to working with the Geocaching/Benchmark Hunting community to support these recovery efforts and the maintenance of the NSRS. It is our hope that this forum will be helpful in that regard and will serve as a means of communication between NGS and the Geocaching/Benchmark Hunting community. Of course, this forum and the database of marks hosted at http://www.geocaching.com/ are not officially supported or endorsed by NGS, NOAA or the Department of Commerce. The official site for NGS information, including (but not limited to) datasheets, the NSRS and monument recovery is http://www.ngs.noaa.gov/. Once again, thank you very much for your efforts to support NGS and the NSRS. Sincerely, Charlie Challstrom, Director National Geodetic Survey

    Something Odd

They are manually upgraded but they'll happen within the hour if you do it now.
  5. Lazyboy & Mitey Mite, Your account has been suspended for two days for blatant violation of the guidelines. See you Monday.

    Log Length Limit

I'll see if I can bump up the text so you can edit it. 5,000 characters is the actual limit, I believe. Why? The field is such that it can be searchable at that size. Unfortunately I haven't made it searchable yet but that is/was the idea. Also, you have to limit it somewhere, though I do like reading through the more lengthy logs.
  9. This one would be difficult, but not impossible to implement. However, it looks like an ignore feature would be the more appropriate choice in this situation.
  10. I'm sorry, but kids read this site and I will not stand for foul mouths here. This decision was cut and dry.
  11. I removed them. They were pretty unnecessary.
  12. We're adding a new feature shortly where as the cache owner you can "kick" bugs out of your cache and put them in limbo. In addition, there will be an option for travel bug owners to do the same thing. Since this is Geocaching.com related, I'm moving it to the appropriate forum.
  13. Its a problem with our forums. We're working hard to get it fixed. Elias
  14. I'm importing the missing posts from the old forums, and the sort order is a going to be out of whack for a while. Please check the last post date and not the order the topics are listed in to see if a topic/post is new. Elias
  15. I've reimported all of the forums except General. General is so big that the import tool in Ubb.x croaks, so Infopop is splitting the forum into smaller chunks for me. Hopefully I'll be able to finish General today. Elias
