Guest TJ
I stumbled across this site...what is geocaching? From a scan of some posts...I get you hide stuff and look for stuff...but, what? and Why? (OK - The why is to play hide and seek obviously...) What do you hide, and what do you do when you find stuff? Thanks for allowing dumb questions from newbies. I have a Garmin Street pilot III (X-Mas) - Unwrapped/in box still...and a Mac computer...so I'm sure I'll need lots more help later. ------------------ - TJ Quote Link to comment
Guest rdwatson78
Many of your questions can be answered at http://www.geocaching.com/faq.asp Why? Adventure, exploration, the thrill of the hunt, escercise, a wholesome family outing, some spectacular scenery, enjoying nature, an excuse to travel (if you need an excuse), being part of the best online community I have yet come across, all for the price of a GPS and internet access. One of the best things about geocaching is that you can make it whatever you want it to be. Anything from an occasional hobby to an obsession. The who, what, when, where, and how all depend on the why. We were all newbies once and no one here has forgotten that. rdw Quote Link to comment
Guest Choberiba
Rdwatson78: being part of the best online community I have yet come across It's one of the better places to meet people of character. (Quite a few characters as well) There is a *TON* of information contained within these forums. Do yourself a favor and look around, you'll not only learn a few new things but you may just avoid asking a question that's been answered a thousand times before. Quote Link to comment
Guest TJ
Thanks RDWatson! The link explains it pretty well. I saw the phrase "New to the game? Feel free to ask questions here. We're glad to help!" And was hoping someone would take pity. ------------------ - TJ Quote Link to comment
Guest Choberiba
led "The Dirty Dozen" but am concerened that the novelty will wear off with some if they don't get to the logbook within a few jumps. Quote Link to comment
Guest TJ
Funny you should mention "The Dirty Dozen"... I was one of the founders of the Dirty Dozen...for off roaders (Jeeps mostly). One of my intentions is to use the GPS to find offroad trails. I know the Street Pilot is not best suited for offroad...but is was a gift....so I'll make do. Right now...I can't get the thing to recognize the card...so I'll talk to y'all later! Your response made me feel as though I already knew you from that group...it seemed almost eery....are you a jeeper? ------------------ - TJ Quote Link to comment
Guest Mopar
Hey TJ, where abouts in NJ are ya? I used to be pretty active off-roading around here when I was younger. Was into sport utilities (we just called them TRUCKS back then) long before the yuppies got them. Quote Link to comment
Guest TJ
Lawrenceville (h) and North Brunswick (o) I get around though...Wide swath along east coast, Conn to DE. Past few months...mostly Manhatten's downtown area. Offroad - I mostly do rocks rather than mud if I have a choice...but for work, mostly mud. (Client's choices there...) On the plus side...for work, we get company rigs to mess up. ------------------ - TJ Quote Link to comment
